Author's POV
It was in the winter of 2002.
The cold wind was blowing through the corner of the city with some snow flakes riding the wind as they fall.
The day was cold but the night was colder.
That was the night of the catastrophe.
The moon was hidden behind the black clouds, but it was trying to shine through the darkest clouds that were covering it.
The stars twinkled brightly in harmony with the moon.
Knock.
Knock.
Knock.
The sound echoed through the empty streets.
Kreech.
A woman in her late 20s opened the door with a smile on her face, hand in hand with a 4 year old child.
"You are back", she cheered.
But the man stayed unmoved. His eyes remained on the 3 year old girl who is beside him.
The woman trailed down to where his eyes lead and saw the child.
Gasp.
"Who is she?", She asked, anxiously.
"Let's go in first. It's cold outside", he said with a small smile plastered on his face as he shivered in cold.
The woman quickly opened the door wider and let him and the child in.
The boy asked his mom, "Mom, who is the girl that dad brought?"
"I don't know, son. Let's wait for your dad to answer.", she answered, trying to act calm in front of her son.
The man and the girl sat. The girl was emotionless.
"Now can you tell me?", the woman asked her husband, losing her patience.
"My friend and her husband lost her life in a car accident. This girl is the only survivor. The surgery on her went well but she lost her memory.", he answered.
"She have no memory of her parents?", the woman asked.
The man nodded as a reply.
"And before she died, I made a promise to her that I will be the godfather of her child", he stated.
The woman turned to face the girl who remained emotionless. The woman grabbed the girl's hand and let out a smile.
