White here. White there.
The whole Wedding Hall was decorated in white and to Hyesung’s ultimate delight, there were even white lilies, his favorite flowers,
all over the hall, making him gladder for attending this wedding. Nonetheless, it was his responsibility to be here since it was the
wedding of his best friend from high school, Nam Yumi, the only female best friend in the photographer’s life. That was why he had
promised the couple to take the responsibility of taking pictures, both pre-wedding and at the wedding, as his wedding gift for
them.
He checked his camera again not for causing any functional error later since the wedding was starting in 10 minutes. The Wedding
Hall was only filled with families, relatives and close friends as it was held as a small and close wedding reception. He lifted his
camera and wandered his eyes around the hall through the lens, making sure that everything was working well in his camera.
There. He found him for the first time.
Walking into the hall in black sleek tuxedo, he seemed surely to be late as a guest but his calm and confident expression caught the
eyes of the young photographer. He scanned the seats for a bit and then, took one that was situated a little far from the aisle. He
was surely from an elite class, judging from his branded head-to-toe outfit and his oozing charisma. Being unbelievably good looking,
Hyesung could not move his lens away from him and it was like he was being dragged into a black hole. Through the lens, he could
catch even the slight and little movements of that stranger and unknowingly himself, he started to press the button to capture
those little moments, wanting to keep them forever.
Then, his common sense kicked in when the one he was giving flashes stared back right through at his eyes, or to say exactly, his
lens, giving him the hint of his knowledge on Hyesung taking pictures of him across the hall. The photographer moved away his
camera automatically after sensing the questioning look on the other’s face and being caught red-handed, he shifted his look at
other available directions except the one he had been facing for the last few minutes.
To his help, the wedding march starts to appear in the wedding hall and his professionalism replaced his temporary fluttered heart m
aking him stand up from his seat and taking the pictures of the bride entering the hall hands in hands with her father. His best friend
gave a small, shy smile at him, noticing him taking photos beside the aisle and accepting that shy yet full with delight smile from
Yumi, Hyesung felt glad for his best friend and gave his congratulations and best wishes again to the couple in his mind.
Soon, the couple said vows to each other and exchanged the rings before sharing the first sweet kiss as an officially accepted
newly-wed couple. The whole process was carried out with stares and tears of overflowing love and promises, even making Hyesung
jealous while capturing the sweetest moments of the couple although he knew that kind of day would never come to him in his life
unless there would be a law giving consents to same- marriage in this country in future.
Feeling bitter-sweet in his heart, Hyesung kept taking photos of the couple and their families, relatives and friends until the familiar
silhouette entered the frame of his camera.
The tall one in black tuxedo.
At the moment, he was standing beside the newly-wed couple and seeing his comfortable expression around the groom, Hyesung
understood automatically that he was a friend of Yumi’s husband, Lee Si Hwan.
He raised his head from looking through the lens to fix their postures a bit but got frozen in the pair of brown hazy orbs and a faint
smirk from that stranger, undoubtedly intending to him. However, with the voice from his friend, he got his sense back and
successfully managed to capture another good memory despite of his a little hyper active heartbeats.
Then, he saw him greeting to the couple before leaving and an unknown feeling crept into his mind. He even could not fetch a name
from him and he was leaving already? But his solemnity only lasted for a few seconds since the one leaving flashed a smirk directly at
him before heading to the exit.
That smirk lasted only for a second but it was enough to make Hyesung’s heart run in the speed of light. Although he also got the
player vibe from that smirk, at the moment, he did not want to care about it at all. He had already fallen hard for that arrogant,
care-for-nothing smirk for his own bad, unfortunately.
At the end of the wedding, he managed to get the desired name from the busy bride Yumi, along with the careful warning for her
best friend.
“I’ve heard a lot about his relationships, Hyesung-ah … Eric Mun is the one what we call “the player”…”
Although Yumi’s words were echoing in his mind, he could not help himself but kept murmuring that name.
Eric Mun. So, he was the famous “Eric Mun”?
Living in the city of Seoul, he also had a little knowledge on Eric Mun since that name was a familiar topic among females, especially
the high rollers. Having a few acquaintances from that class, he had surely bumped into that name for a few times but never had a
chance to know the face.
Now, seeing him in person, he was truly deserved for his infamous popularity in Hyesung’s eyes. Looks, background, family, and his
charisma. All were undeniable for girls and maybe even for guys, in the case of Hyesung.
Hyesung sighed while doing the buttons on his black dress shirt which was accompanied by dark grey pants. Recalling the past
morning, he was kind of getting thrilled for the coming dinner party of the couple. He had been invited again and since this was the
informal ceremony only for close friends, the dress code was casual and the location was beside the pool of a four-star hotel. He had
been anticipating it since Yumi had told him to come over this evening and hinted him that they had also invited Eric Mun to the
party.
After all, Yumi was not called his best friend without a reason.
The possibility of seeing him again made Hyesung more careful than ever in choosing his outfit. Not too stiff and formal and also not
too sloppy and outdated. He wanted to look good in Eric’s eyes at least even he would not get a chance to talk with him in the
party.
Suddenly, the desire to chuckle himself could not be suppressed due to a realization. He really seemed like a girl who was going to a
prom party where her crush was also going. But, while chuckling, he also realized how much he had fallen already for that Eric Mun
and it made him a little terrified and an uneasy feeling in the gut.
He should not fall head over heel for a guy who he had met only once and even had not talked for once, let alone knowing that guy’s
reputation as “a player”. This was dangerous enough to put his guard on standby around that guy but in this state, the photographer
did not believe that he could do so since he had been already too excited and too expecting.
With all those confused and hesitant thoughts and considerations, he arrived at the pool side party which had just started. Among
the still-not-many guests, his eyes still had not found the one he desired to meet. Like knowing his inner thoughts, the host, Yumi,
approached him while handing a glass of cocktail, and whispered “He’s still not here” in his ears. The partial portion of his logical
mind tried to find the excuse for hiding his obvious behavior while most of his love struck heart just decided to nod at his friend’s
words with a little darkened shade of red on his face. After Yumi left for other guests, he was left with a glass of cocktail in his hand
and a fluttering heart in his chest, while gazing at the calm surface of the pool with the background of faint love serenade coming
from the band.
Maybe he had been too absorbed with his own thoughts and when he heard the voice of the tonight groom from the microphone
saying to gather in front of the stage for the congratulatory toast. While approaching a little closer to the stage, out of nowhere, he
felt a shadow being close to him and almost disturbing his personal space. Instinctively, he gave a quick glance at his right side to
check and then, his heart stopped for a second.
Literally, his heart stopped beating at that moment.
The one he had kept searching was finally beside him, with his trademark smirk flashing on his overly handsome face. He thought the
whole world stopped, all the people stopped and all the seconds stopped around him. It was like time was frozen at that time and at
that place, only two of them being in the frame.
He lost counting how many minutes had passed by gazing at the one beside him until he gained his logical mind back again when the
one in front of him gave a gesture for a toast, lifting his glass towards him.
Only then, he lifted his glass back in a flabbergasted way, starting to feel embarrassed for his love-struck-teen like reaction and
shifting his look here and there, with the exception of one person. But, to his good luck or bad luck, he heard the voice of Eric
which led them to their very first conversation.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Eric Mun.”
He immediate knew that that little mere greeting would become stuck in his heart forever since it was the very first time he heard
Eric’s voice addressing to him and his low and deep voice had a deeper impact on his heart than he had expected. Automatically, he
flashed a weak smile with a obvious nervousness in his eyes, he knew.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Shin Hye Sung.”
Starting from that second, he simply did not remember how the remaining hours of night had passed. Words, laughter, glasses of
cocktail, gazes, sparks, all were mixing up in a blurred memory, the effect of cocktails and mainly the overwhelming ecstasy and love.
The only thing he remembered was that he had shared his personal life more than he should to a person he had just known and he
had changed in 180 degree, from a calm and quiet photographer to a bubbly and smiley one, in front of Eric. Maybe that also must be
the influence of too many glasses of cocktails or at least he wanted to believe like that.
When the time to say goodbye came, Yumi popped up from nowhere and at the next second, he was found being dragged away from
Eric.
“Hyesung-ah … Tell me you know what you’re doing … huh?”
The worry from Yumi’s tone woke his clouded mind but surprisingly, he still nodded and even patted the back of his best friend for
some assurance.
“I know and I’ll be ok … Please let me be this once …”
Although both Yumi and he knew what was ahead, thankfully, his friend let it pass for this time and just gave him a warm
encouraging smile before hugging him.
“Good luck.”
Yumi’s last word kept ringing in his ears until he found Eric standing at the parking lot, seemingly waiting for someone, and in this
case, maybe him?
“I forgot to give you my card …”
With those words, a visiting card appeared in his sight and he took it with a surprised yet enjoyed feeling in his chest. That card
meant Eric still wanted to keep contact with him in future, didn’t it?
After searching his card in his wallet, he handed it back to Eric who accepted it wearing a smile.
“I’ll call you … Hyesung-shi …”
Those words alone could make his heart stop and he did not mind it at all.
Even if it was for his whole life time …
