Chapter 2

What Are We Doing?

Chapter Two

Teddy hung up the phone and set it down slowly. Jiyong smiled,

“What? Yongbae surprise you with some phone or something?” Teddy sat down slowly.

“Yongbae’s in the hospital.” Teddy said blankly. That wiped Jiyong’s smile right off his face, instantly switching to leader mode.

“What happened?” he asked, all joking set aside. Teddy shook his head,

“He was driving back to the dorm and there was an accident. That’s all his manager was able to tell me.” He answered. Jiyong pulled out his phone and began dialing YG’s all too familiar number.

“You go to the hospital, I’ll let YG know.” He said. Teddy nodded and jumped out of his seat, grabbing his car keys and running out the door. Jiyong tapped his foot impatiently as he waited for YG to answer the phone, but he never did, “Aish. Why won’t you pick up?” Jiyong said, “At a time like this.” He muttered. He sighed before he realized that he should probably tell the other members.

Seungri wiped the sleeve of his shirt on his forehead, trying to get rid of the sweat that was threatening to drip into his eyes. He felt his phone vibrating in his pocket, but he knew better than to take it out during practice. He may have had a certain reputation, but the maknae knew when it was time for work. He continued paying close attention to the choreographer’s moves, but he was interrupted when his manager stepped up to the guy, whispering something in his ear. The choreographer nodded slowly and looked towards Seungri,

“Why don’t we take a break.” Seungri gave him a questioning look, but nodded anyway. His manager walked up to him and stared at him. Seungri smiled,

“What was that about?” he asked. His manager looked at him sadly, Seungri’s smile faltered, “Hyung…what’s wrong?”

“Seungri…” he started, “There’s been an accident.” He said gently. Seungri frowned,

“What kind of accident?” His manager sighed,

“Yongbae got into a car accident on his way back to the dorm.” He said. Seungri’s eyes widened.

“Dammit!” he exclaimed, “I told him to be careful.” Seungri’s manager watched him.

“We’re gonna let all of you go to the hospital, so go get yourself cleaned up and we’ll head on out.” He said calmly. Seungri only nodded, turning around slowly and walking towards the locker room doors.

TOP walked into Teddy’s studio. He was supposed to meet Teddy and Jiyong there so that he could preview their first full draft of Jiyong’s song. But when he walked in, all he saw was a stressed out leader with no Teddy in sight. He frowned at Jiyong,

“What’s going on?” he asked. Jiyong said nothing as he fiddled with his hands in his lap. SeungHyun knew that something was wrong. “Ji?” he asked again. Jiyong glanced up at him and SeungHyun noticed that his eyes were b with tears. He slowly walked closer and sat down next to him. “Jiyong. Tell me what happened.” He demanded gently. Jiyong took a deep breath and laughed sadly,

“Yongbae.” He said. SeungHyun raised his eyebrows.

“What about him Ji?” he said, pushing him to give more detail. Jiyong looked at him,

“He’s in the hospital.” SeungHyun’s expression didn’t change, but Jiyong noticed a change in his eyes.

“What happened?” he asked, his voice harder than it had been before. Jiyong shook his head,

“I don’t know.” Jiyong said, “His manager called Teddy but he only told him what I told you. We don’t know anything.” SeungHyun reached out and placed a comforting hand on Jiyong’s shoulder. He knew how Jiyong felt about Yongbae. “This is Teddy’s fault.” Jiyong said quietly. SeungHyun sighed. He also knew that if Teddy was out of the picture, Jiyong would definitely be in it.

“Ji. How is it Teddy’s fault?” SeungHyun asked warily.

“Teddy’s been treating him horribly. They’ve been fighting. Whenever they fight, Yongbae get’s distracted. He was probably distracted while driving home. Therefore, it’s Teddy’s fault.” SeungHyun shook his head at Jiyong’s terrible logic.

“Leave them alone Ji. Let’s concentrate on Yongbae for now, okay?” Jiyong frowned at him but nodded,

“Let’s get to the hospital.”

Daesung stared at the ceiling fan and counted the times that it spun a full circle. He could hear the pitter patter of the rain outside. It always had a sort of calming effect on him. Him and Yongbae usually lied on the floor together, listening to the rain and thunder on nights that it was particularly stormy. They never talked, they just listened. It was one if his favorite things to do. It was a nice break from reality. He wondered where Yongbae was now. Was he listening to the rain now too? He flinched slightly when he heard his hand phone ring next to his head on the floor; an un-welcome interruption. He rolled over onto his stomach and answered it,

“Hello?”

“Hey Daesung.”

“Oh. Hyung, what’s up?” Daesung asked Jiyong.

“Daesung I have to tell you something.” Daesung sat up and frowned,

“What is it Hyung?” he asked.

“Daesung…Yongbae…he was in an accident on his way back to the dorm. We’re all on out way to the hospital. Do you want to meet us there? Daesung had already jumped up and grabbed his wallet and keys,

“I’m on my way.”

Teddy ran through the hospital front doors and glanced around, his hand clenched tightly around his phone. He didn’t even bother putting his hat on or pulling his hood up. He didn’t care about getting noticed, he just needed to get to Yongbae. He walked up to the front desk and waited patiently for the nurse to look up from her computer and at him. Taking her sweet time, she finally looked up at him,

“Can I help you?” she asked.

“I need to know where Yongbae is.” He said.

“What?” the lady asked.

“Dong Yongbae. Where is he?” The nurse turned back to her computer and typed something in, then looked back up.

“Are you family?” she asked. Teddy shook his head,

“No but I work at the company with him and his manager.” The nurse shook her head,

“I’m sorry, I can only allow family members and emergency contacts back.” Teddy cursed under his breath.

“Ma’am, if you just call his manager, he’ll tell you that I can come back.”

“Sir.” The nurse said, “I understand that you’re worried. I can see that. I want nothing more than to let you go back, but I have to do my job.” Teddy sighed. He looked around him, then leaned in a little closer and asked, barely above a whisper,

“What if I told you that I’m his partner?” The nurse raised her eyebrows.

“Partner?” she asked. Teddy nodded vigorously. “You mean…like…together?” she asked again. Teddy winced, but nodded his head. “Well if you’re married…” She said, trailing off to type a few things in her computer. Teddy’s eyes widened and he was about to protest, but he stopped himself. ‘Whatever I need to do to get to him’ he thought.

“He’s in room 207, second floor. Do you need someone to walk you there?”

“No I got it!” he practically shouted as he pushed himself away from the desk. He ran down the hall and found the staircase, pushing open the door and bounding up the stairs two at a time. By the time he pushed through the second floor doors he was out of breath. He wandered around the maze of a hallway and frowned as he could see every number except for the one he wanted the most. The rooms followed a pattern, he had noticed, and he eventually found the correct one. Standing outside the door, he found himself more nervous than he was before. When he was in the car, all he could think about was getting to the hospital so that he could be next to Yongbae. But here, now that he was finally outside his room, he didn’t want to go in. He was afraid. He had no idea what kind of state his boyfriend was in. Teddy didn’t know if he could see Yongbae in a hospital bed with different machines hooked up to him. He didn’t think that he could be the strong figure of support that Yongbae was probably going to need, because if it was bad, Teddy would probably break down.

“Teddy. Are you going to go in?” Teddy spun around and came face to face with Yongbae’s manager.

“Hyung.” Teddy said bowing slightly, acknowledging his presence.

“You can go in you know.” Teddy sighed,

“How bad is it?” he asked calmly. The manager shook his head,

“I can’t really say.” He said. “He’s woken up a couple of times, but he’s not conscious enough to really know what’s going on. The Doctor’s been here to check on him twice. They’re just kind of at that stage where they’re trying to figure out what to do.” Teddy nodded. “When he does wake up…I can tell he’s scared. His eye’s say it all for him.” Teddy tightened his fist around his phone. “Go on in.” The manager said, “I’ll wait out in the lobby for the boys and attempt to get the nurse to let the rest of them back.” Teddy nodded and placed his hand on the door.

“Wait…” The manager said, “How did you get back here?” he asked. Teddy froze and looked back at him, the manager staring at him. Quickly, Teddy shrugged and pushed open the door, disappearing into the room.

Wow, this is really good! I can't believe no one's commented. Everyone reacts so realistically in this story - Youngbae and Teddy fighting because Teddy is avoidant and Youngbae is insecure feels really true to life. The overprotective ex (or whatever it is that Jiyong is to Youngbae), too. It's all just really well done. You also somehow managed to write Daesung really well even though he only has a few lines. So good - I had to register with this site just to tell you. I'm really curious to know what you're going to make of the situation, so I hope you decide to continue this.
