Chapter 1

What Are We Doing?

Chapter One

“You should talk to him you know.”

Teddy looked up from the computer and glared at the rapper.

“GD, please don’t start with me right now. Just let this one go. Please.” Jiyong shook his head,

“Not this time Teddy. Not when the problem involves my best friend.” Teddy sighed,

“I’ll call him later okay? But we’re busy right now. We need to finish this song.”

“No.” Jiyong said simply. Teddy raised his eyebrow,

“Excuse me?”

“I’m officially on Teddy strike.” He said. “I’m not working on this song until you talk to him. So if you have any desire to finish this song today…I would call him…now.”

Teddy took a deep breath and grabbed his phone, pressing number two on his speed dial. It took four rings, but the boy finally answered.

“Yoboeseo?” the boy said silently, probably wondering why Teddy was calling him during studio time.

“Hey…where are you?” Teddy asked.

“YG.” The boy replied. When he was upset or angry, or nervous, he tended to only give one word answers.

“…We need to talk.” Teddy said gently. There was a long pause before the boy finally answered him,

“I’ll be up in a minute.” And with that he hung up. Teddy sighed and put the phone down, his eyes meeting Jiyong’s.

“That didn’t sound like you fixed things.” He said. Teddy rolled his eyes,

“He’s coming up now, so you can leave.” He replied. Jiyong wiggled his eyebrows,

“Don’t go too crazy now.” He mocked, smirking at him. Teddy didn’t reply to that. He highly doubted that there would be any of that…for a very long time.

After Jiyong left, Teddy felt like he was waiting out the calm before the storm. He was lying to himself if he said he wasn’t nervous, but he knew he had to stay strong. His head snapped around when he heard the door open and close, Yongbae standing near it, his hands stuffed in his sweat pant pockets. Teddy turned all the way around in the chair so that he was completely facing him.

“Hey.” He said gently. Yongbae looked away,

“If you wanna break up, just do it already. Stop dragging me along.” Teddy’s eyes widened and he stood up, quickly walking towards Yongbae.

“What in the world made you think that I wanted to do that?!” Teddy exclaimed. Yongbae’s eyes widened and he looked at Teddy for the first time since he walked into the room.

“Why would you think that?” he asked, concern in his eyes and his voice. Yongbae shrugged,

“We haven’t talked in two days. Every time I came into our room you would make an excuse to leave, you cancelled our last three recording sessions, and you spent the night here, leaving me alone. How could I not think that?” he said. Teddy shook his head,

“Bae, I’m so sorry. I never wanted you to think that. That wasn’t my intention at all.”

“Then what was your intention Teddy? Because other than changing your mind about us, I’ve got nothing.” Teddy began to get anxious, his chest beginning to tighten up. The feeling of him and Yongbae fighting was never good. As much as he thought Yongbae needed him, he had been slowly realizing that he needed him more.

“I’ve been having a bad week. I promise Yongbae. It has nothing to do with you. I know I should have talked to you…I was just…being stubborn.” He said. Yongbae looked at him, the hurt evident in his eyes,

“What was going on that made you ignore my existence completely?” Teddy looked down, could he really tell Yongbae what had been bothering him?

“Yongbae….I….it was just me being stupid.” Yongbae looked away from him,

“Are you embarrassed to be with me?” he asked silently. Teddy felt his heart drop lower in his chest.

No.” Teddy said firmly, “Bae, that’s not it. Please. Just don’t read into it.” Yongbae sighed,

“I wish you could just tell me the truth.” He mumbled, frowning at the floor. Teddy’s head shot up,

“You want the truth Yongbae? Fine, let me tell you the truth. I’m not ready to tell people that we’re together. I’m just not, and I can’t help but think that the longer I take to get comfortable with it, the more you’re going to resent me.” Teddy shouted. Yongbae’s shoulders tensed. Teddy took a deep breath, his chest heaving. He had never really raised his voice at Yongbae. Teddy took a step closer, but almost immediately Yongbae took a step back.  Teddy’s eyes widened, “Bae…” Yongbae looked at him,

“You could have just told me Teddy. I would have understood.” He said. Teddy rubbed his temple.

“I’m sorry I yelled at you, I’m just stressed, but that’s no excuse.” Yongbae’s shoulders quickly softened, his posture not as tense as it had been.

“Teddy, I’ve never asked you to tell anyone.” He said. “I’m not even all too comfortable with it.

“I was afraid to tell you. I didn’t want your feelings to get hurt. I couldn’t stand that. But at the same time, I knew I needed to tell you, because we’re together. We’re supposed to be honest with each other. So this conflict that I was having inside, turned into me avoiding you.” Yongbae took a step forward and took Teddy’s hand gently,

“Teddy, don’t worry about it. I’m okay.” Teddy shook his head,

“You thought I was going to break up with you, how are you okay?” Yongbae laughed,

“I’m not going to lie to you, I’m mad, and hurt that you avoided me. I was scared this whole time thinking that anytime I walked into the same room as you, you would say it’s over. But I’m okay.” Teddy reached up and cupped Yongbae’s face, brushing his cheek with his thumb.

“I have no plans to break up with you anytime soon Dong Yongbae. You can’t get rid of me that easily.” Yongbae smiled and stepped closer, letting Teddy wrap his arms around him protectively.

Teddy took a deep breath. It felt like it had been so long since he had gotten to hold Yongbae like this. Yongbae sighed,

“I have to go back downstairs.” Teddy nodded,

“Me and Jiyong really need to finish this song. YG wants to see the first run through tonight. “ Yongbae smiled as he pulled away first. He started to walk away, but he stopped halfway and turned around,

“I’ll see you at the dorm tonight, right?” he asked hesitantly. Teddy smiled,

“I’ll be there. I promise.”

Yongbae walked back into the dance studio and apologized to everyone for being late. He bowed slightly to the instructor and sat down next to Seungri on the bench against the wall. Seungri glanced at him,

“Everything okay now?” he asked. Yongbae nodded. “He gonna start showing up again at the dorm?” Yongbae looked at Seungri and nodded again.

“Did I miss much here?” he asked. Seungri shook his head,

“I covered for you, so they’re working on Se7en’s choreography for now. You’re up next though.” Yongbae nodded and leaned back against the wall.

“Thanks maknae.” He said quietly.

“No problem Hyung.”

Yongbae closed his eyes. It had finally hit him that he was really tired. He hadn’t gotten a decent nights sleep ever since he started worrying about the whole argument with Teddy. The music he heard in the background was almost soothing.

“Taeyang.”

Yongbae opened his eyes and looked at the choreographer, “Oh, I’m sorry. What did you say?” he asked, sitting up. The choreographer chuckled,

“I said that we’re not going to do anymore for today. YG said he wants you to rest for a couple of days.”

“Oh.” Yongbae said, “Why?” he asked. The choreographer shrugged,

“He didn’t say, but I would have to agree with him. You’ve seemed off your game recently.” Yongbae sighed. That was the last thing that he wanted, for his relationship to affect his work. Especially since no one knew that him and Teddy where together except for s. Others probably thought that he was beginning to be lazy.

Yongbae took a deep breath and nodded, “I’m sorry. I’ll work harder.” The choreographer shook his head,

“Don’t worry about it Taeyang. Everyone needs a break once in a while.” Yongbae smiled,

“Thank you.” He said quietly.

“Alright Seungri. Let’s get started on you.” Seungri rolled his eyes, but got up anyway. He glanced at Yongbae,

“Are you going home?” he asked. Yongbae shrugged,

“I don’t know, probably. I might go back up to the studio. I don’t really know.” Seungri nodded,

“Well, if you go back to the dorm, be careful. It started raining outside a little while ago.” Yongbae smiled,

“Don’t worry maknae.”

Four hours later, Teddy and Jiyong had finally finished the song.

“Now see, doesn’t that feel much better? You made up with your boyfriend and finished a song…I’m a genius.” Jiyong said, patting his shoulder in self-approval. Teddy rolled his eyes,

“You like yourself way too much.” Jiyong laughed.

“Whatever.”

Teddy smiled and winked at him. He heard his phone begin to ring and he looked around trying to find it. He finally spotted it next to Jiyong’s lyric sheet. He looked at the number and quickly recognized it as Yongbae’s manager. Yongbae’s phone had probably died.

“Hey.” He said warily.

“…Teddy?”

“Oh, Hyung.” Teddy said, realizing that it was actually Yongbae’s manager, “What can I do you for?” There was a hesitation over the line; Teddy could tell that the manager was tense.

“…Teddy…There’s been an accident.”

Wow, this is really good! I can't believe no one's commented. Everyone reacts so realistically in this story - Youngbae and Teddy fighting because Teddy is avoidant and Youngbae is insecure feels really true to life. The overprotective ex (or whatever it is that Jiyong is to Youngbae), too. It's all just really well done. You also somehow managed to write Daesung really well even though he only has a few lines. So good - I had to register with this site just to tell you. I'm really curious to know what you're going to make of the situation, so I hope you decide to continue this.
