The Offer
Brothers in Arms: Darkness FallsA few days had passed since Sungjae and I saw the strange boy in the backseat of my car and I had mostly pushed it from my mind. I was sitting on the couch and cigarette smoke filled the air. Maps and newspaper clippings covered my coffee table. I was desperately trying to track down a monster that was leaving a trail all across the country.
An ear splitting cry sounded from the bedroom. I groaned in frustration as the sound of tiny feet rushed toward me. My four year old son stood in front of me, with apple juice covering his shirt.
“Rain… did you steal your brother’s juice again?” I asked. He shook his head furiously.
“Nope! No way! He gived it to me!” he lied.
I rolled my eyes. Ever since my girlfriend was killed, I was trying to raise our two sons by myself. It was no easy task, especially since I was a slayer.
“Stay here Rain, you’re in trouble when I get back,” I walked into my younger son’s room and stopped cold.
There he was, standing over Joon… the boy from the backseat. I pulled a knife from my pocket with lighting speed.
“No need to be alarmed Minhyuk, I’m not here to hurt you or your children, at least not yet,” he said with a faint smile.
“Who are you?” I demanded.
“My name is Mika, I’m sure you’ve heard of me,”
“Mika… of the Demonic Trinity…. I wasn’t sure if you really existed,”
“Well clearly I’m alive and well. I’m here to make an offer,” he said.
“An offer? What kind of offer?”
“Well you see… my brothers and I have come up with one heck of a plan. It involves a forgotten biblical ritual, the lunar eclipse, and the essence of a Nephilim… like yourself,” Mika explained.
“A Nephilim? The offspring of a human and an angel? I’m not one of them…”
“Not directly, but you are descended from them. You have enough Angelic substance in your blood to complete the ritual,”
“…What’s your offer?”
“Come to the underworld with me during the lunar eclipse at the end of the month, and no harm will befall your loved ones,”
“That’s not an offer… that’s an ultimatum,”
“Call it what you want Minhyuk… I will return at the end of this month, and you can make your choice then,” Mika replied before he disappeared in a puff of black smoke.
I ran over to Joon and examined him to make sure Mika hadn’t harmed him. I needed to contact Sungjae immediately. There was no way I was going to be part of some demonic ritual. We were going to find a way out of this… even if we had to destroy the demonic trinity ourselves.
