Kyuhyun felt the sharp twist of pain in his stomach as the baby moved.

"Just breathe Kyu."

The younger boy slapped him. "I am breathing Siwon!"

Siwon touched his face where the boy had slapped him, the angry red handprint. 

But he forgot the sting of the slap when he saw his lover's face fill with pain. Looking at his boyfriend lying on the hospital bed, he wanted to cry.

 

"I'm so sorry Kyu. I wish I could take away your pain. It will all be over soon, I promise. Just think about our baby, think about her lovely face, her sweet smile."

He wiped Kyu's forehead as he talked, and the sweaty hair. Knowing that Kyu felt self conscious about appearing weak, he held his hand tightly.

"You're so brave Kyuhyun. I know you can do this. When you need to push, just squeeze my hand to ease the pain."

 

Suddenly Kyuhyun looked down at the floor. "Siwon, are you going to stay for the whole thing?"

The boy opened his eyes wide in surprise. "Yes, of course I am. Why do you ask?"

"Be-because I'm scared... I can't do it alone... Do you promise that you won't leave me?"

Siwon squeezed the boy's shoulder, and pressed endless kisses to his lips.

"I'm not going anywhere Kyu. I'll stay right here with you. I won't leave your side." He looked him straight in the eye. "And Kyuhyun you don't need to be scared. I'm here, and the doctors are here, you'll be completely safe. Please don't cry, think of our beautiful family."

 

And Kyu thought. He thought about the small child resting in his arms as he lay in bed with Siwon. Small daydreams about trips to the beach, and picnics in the park.

He knew that parenting would be hard, that it involved sleepless nights and patient days, but it would be worth it.

The other members would help, Leeteuk was so excited about the baby that he fell off his chair when they first gave him the news. Sungmin had looked so happy, his smile bright as he congratulated the couple. Kyuhyun had given him a sympathetic hug, knowing that Kangin and Sungmin couldn't have children. "You can play with our baby" he had whispered quietly.

 

But it was Eunhyuk who was the most excited. His gummy smile had been bright as he stayed with Kyuhyun throughout the pregnancy. Kyuhyun knew how much Eunhyuk wanted children, he knew how desperate he was to have a baby to play with and care for. There was no doubt that he would be an excellent father.

Siwon had just smiled. They had a willing babysitter.

 

As another contraction came, Kyuhyun kept his breathing steady by thinking about the baby, thinking about the future. His hand squeezed Siwon's so tightly that the older boy could almost feel the bones breaking, but he didn't want the boy to let go, didn't want him to be the only one suffering.

 

When the doctor announced that Kyu could start pushing, both boys felt relieved. Soon the pain would be over, soon they could start their family.
