For Heaven's Sake, Hit the Brake

Of course Yifan had expected rejection, but he didn't expect that rejection to be so fiercely final and he was sure if he was three years younger he would have peed his pants with the look Tao was giving him.

Every human being has their fight-or-flight response, and every fiber in Yifan's body was screaming flight--really loudly, well not really because fibers don't talk. But then he remembered Luhan's words, more specifically the pact from the dark ages--read as middle school--and swallowed to speak.

"I understand it's really out of the blue," he started by putting his hands up as if in surrender, "I mean, if I was you I wouldn't give myself lessons either. Wait, that's not helping my case. I'm actually not that bad, maybe clumsy--Luhan has tons of stories as blackmail. Like, I almost crashed into a tree when I took off the training wheels on my bicycle when trying to show him up. But you don't have to worry about that because I have no intentions of crashing your motorcycle into a tree. You have a really nice bike and--"

"You can shut up now," Tao said raising his hands to cover his ears, "I'm sorry, well not really, but I'm not going to teach you how to ride a motorcycle. I'm sure someone else will help you," he said walking over towards his helmet, reflecting the scenery in its shiny black paint.

Yifan had only done one really stupid thing in his life and that was to make out with Luhan and throw up in his mouth one time at a college party after downing too many shots, now he can add another to that list. Without thinking, he ran over and clutched Tao's helmet into his chest.

"Please you have to help me!" he gulped when he noticed the sudden predatory gaze in Tao's eyes.

Tao was now looking him with a murderous look, "Give me back my helmet," he replied with a tone that left no room for discussion.

"Well, I will if you give me lessons," he nearly stuttered out, gripping the helmet almost like a shield. If he really pissed off Tao maybe, he is the one that is going to be needing that helmet.

"He killed someone in high school," Luhan's words rang in his head.

"I'm going to kill you if you don't give me my helmet back, I don't know what type of you're trying to pull but I'm not having any part of it," Tao said dangerously even, raising a hand for his helmet and looking at Yifan expectantly.

"I'm just asking for lessons that's it," Yifan said bringing the helmet behind his back away from Tao's hands.

"I told you I'm not helping, find someone else," his teeth gritted as he seemed to fight the keep control.

"Please?" Yifan pleaded, not at all liking the whining tone in his own voice.

"Why do you even need lessons?" Tao yelled, throwing his hands up in exasperation.

"Because I told my friend Luhan--who is the devil incarnated as a bubblegum-haired --that I would learn to by the end of the month. Which is in two weeks," Yifan tried his best to make himself look pitiful, hoping it will reel Tao into teaching him.

Instead Tao blinked in confusion--and was that amusement?--and he chuckled softly.

"You're trying to learn to ride a motorbike to impress your boyfriend?"

Yifan gaped, akin to something like a dead fish, "Luhan is not my boyfriend. He's a pain in the and I just need to show him up to make his medal look like scrap metal. That's why I need you to teach me, Tao."

"How do you know my name?" Tao asked curiously, the anger from before now subsiding.

"Luhan told me. I swear I'm not a stalker," he denied quickly, "I don't even know what you're studying!"

"Mechanical engineering. I'd like to develop concept cars for some big name companies too," Tao answered moving closer to snatch his helmet away from Yifan, but failed when the other took a step back.

"That's really cool actually," Yifan admitted.

"Thanks, I could be studying but some jerk has my helmet."

Yifan had the decency to look a little guilty, "I'm sorry, I don't mean to be a nuisance but could you help me out. Please?"

Tao sighed, crossing his arms and looking up at the sky as he mulled things over. Yifan took those few seconds to really look at the boy. Dark hair tousled nicely, prominent bags under his eyes but overall the guy wasn't that bad looking. He wore a nice black jacket with a simple black shirt and dark skinny jeans that fit loosely on his hips; his dark style practically complemented the motorcycle.

Tao finally took a few steps forward to stand in front of Yifan.

"Fine, I'll teach you," he said as though the words tasted foul in his mouth. Yifan was about to rejoice but Tao put a hand up to interrupt him, "On two conditions."

Yifan nodded.

"First get on your knees," Tao said with a smirk and suddenly Yifan wished he never said anything to Luhan in the first place.

"Why do I have to do that?"

"If you want lessons just get on your knees and I'll tell you," he replied deviously, the smirk ever present on those amused lips.

Yifan slowly got on his knees, freaking out because he never really gave anyone a before and he realized he was willing to submit just to prove Luhan wrong and oh dear god what did he get himself into.

"Guess what I'm going to make you do," Tao said quietly as if revealing a dirty secret.

Yifan gulped.

Tao leaned over to whisper near Yifan's ear, "You're going to...tie my shoe."

Yifan suddenly blinked up at him, relief and confusion probably written all over his face because Tao then doubled over laughing, "Your face was priceless!" he said pointing a teasing finger at Yifan.

Yifan looked down to see that one of Tao's lace up boots had come undone and quickly tied it neatly before standing up and rubbing his neck awkwardly.

"You can stop laughing now."

Tao just bit his lip, eyes bright with mirth and Yifan couldn't help but think Tao maybe wasn't such a bad person after all when he was smiling like that.

"You still don't know the other condition," Tao continued giggles subsiding, "Once I teach you, you leave me alone."

Yifan thought it was reasonable and nodded his head, finally giving him back his helmet.

It was getting late and Tao noticed the sun was quickly fading away from the autumn sky.

"Do you need a ride? It's getting kind of late," Tao offered.

Yifan did live quite far away and he didn't feel like waiting at a stop to take the metro bus home, he soon found himself nodding.

Tao looked like he was regretting his offer but put on his helmet and swung one leg over the shiny body of the motorcycle and motioned for Kris to sit behind him.

Yifan suddenly thought he didn't think this one through very well either and awkwardly sat on the motorcycle trying to leave space between their bodies. Yifan could see Tao was shaking his head before turning in the engine, the entire motorcycle jumping to life with loud power. When Tao finally shifted into gear the sudden force scared him and he hugged himself closer to Tao.

While Yifan couldn't hear Tao laughing with the wind rushing past his ears, he couldn't help but feel the a tingle of adrenaline as the shapes quickly zoomed by as Tao effortlessly weaved through traffic.

He hoped this could work out, Tao wasn't protesting anymore. Maybe to could all work out and no one will get hurt.

Tao started to slow down as the got closer to the heart of the city and lifted up the visor quickly to look at Yifan when they reached a red light. "Where do you live exactly?"

"Just another few blocks down and take a right, it's a big apartment complex."

Tao nodded, the sound the visor coming down just as the light turned green and once again  found himself ed forward against Tao's back by the force of the throttle.

Tao must be a very strong guy to be able to handle the machine with a confidence and gracefulness that Yifan was sure he could never possess--much less on a motorbike. After a few minutes he finally arrive into the parking lot were Tao stopped and took off his helmet.

Just as he was getting off, Tao pulled his sleeve, "Do you have class tomorrow?"

Yifan shook his head.

"I don't either, tomorrow afternoon I can try to teach you some of the basics."

Yifan quickly smiled, "That's great! I'm really sorry about before, I just--"

"I don't care, just wear something kind of heavy tomorrow and don't be a little ," Tao interrupted somewhat rudely with a teasing smile.

Yifan simply nodded and turned around to walk to his apartment as he heard the sound of the motorcycle start up and fade in the distance.
