Chapter 2
Not Exactly Human
DW1122
Jang Dongwoo
Purpose?: To Kill
Successful?: Not at all
The scientists, Nam Woohyun and Lee Sungyeol, came up with the conclusion that the machine they worked on for over 23 years was a complete failure, a malfunction within the computer chip. They confided that they did, in fact, mess up the computer chip. It was normal for Dongwoo to feel emotions, all but pain and love, and the two scientists feared that they might have accidentally put love, or pain, or even both. Sunggyu really found it hard to believe that two scientists, dilligent in there work, would accidentally insert love and pain into a computer chip they knew wasn't supposed to be in it.
They discussed whether they should completely shut down Dongwoo, seeing as they have already started up Dongwoo's computer chip. He was laying on his back, eyes opened, staring straight up at the ceiling. Upon hearing that, Sunggyu immediately jumped into the conversation.
"Uh, sir, I mean it was an accident to add that in, but you shouldn't just give up on an experiment you worked over 23 years on, right?"
And with much persuasion, they agreed to not immediately shut down Dongwoo. Sunggyu doesn't really understand why he stood up for something that didn't even have a beating heart inside of him, but he couldn't help but feel bad for Dongwoo, while Dongwoo barely had any feelings at all.
Sunggyu's job was to teach Dongwoo how to be "human." Dongwoo knew how to speak, could understand Korean, and his brain was created so that he'd be a genius. The only thing Dongwoo didn't know was how to use his feelings, and he didn't understand how to walk, pretend to breathe like a normal human being, and he couldn't function words from his mouth. He basically had to be taught, from step one till the end.
