Tuesday: 2011 April 12: Lunch
“Kevin!”
Amy came running down the hallway, attacking her friend in a hug.
“Amy!” he yelled, hugging her back.
“Oppa~ can I ask you for a favor?”
“You need lunch money again?”
“Yeees.” Amy’s eyes twinkled as her stomach growled. “Shh! It’s ok tummy~ I won’t neglect you anymore.”
Kevin laughed at the crazy girl he called his friend. Her childish antics won the hearts of many people, mainly boys, including Kevin.
“Kaja!”
Amy linked her arm with Kevin’s and skipped to the school’s cafeteria.
-at the lunch table-
“What do you want to eat? I’ll go up and buy it for you.”
“Awww, Kevin! You’re so nice~ uhmmm… get me whatever. You know I like anything and everything!”
“Kay.”
Kevin quickly returned with a tray full of salad, pizza, water, and a cookie for the both of them.
“Thank you! I love you~ mwah!”
Kevin’s face turned a light shade of pink as Amy took some of the food off of the tray.
“Sooo, heard anything from Harvard yet?”
“Yale, Amy. I’m going to Yale. And no, not yet .”
“Close enough, they’re both ivy league.”
Amy took a sip out of her water.
“That’s like people saying we’re Chinese, even though we aren’t, cuz it’s ‘Close enough, they’re both Asian’.”
“I am Chinese…” -____-
“Oh. Sorry, I could’ve sworn you were Korean.”
Amy burst into a fit of giggles.
“Oppa~” Amy reached across the table and took Kevin’s hand in her’s.
“What?”
“I’m just kidding! I was made in Korea, Baby!”
Tears streamed down her face as she began to laugh harder.
“How else would I be able to talk with your mum fluently?”
“You have a point.”
A few moments of silence passed as they ate their salads.
“Kev, I’m not gunna be here tomorrow.”
“Wae?”
Kevin took the first bite out of his pizza, forgetting that it was freshly made; one of the advantages of having an early lunch.
“HOT!!!”
Kevin frantically searched the table for his water. Amy handed him her’s since she already had it open.
“Everyday oppa, everyday. You’re really smart but sometimes I wonder about you… I am going to visit my sister.”
Amy took a bite from her cookie.
“Why?”
“Are you two or something? She’s prego! Her baby’s due tomorrow. I’m going to be an aunt!”
“Cool. Do you know the name?”
“Sunghyun, but we’re going to call him Mark.”
“That’s my name!”
“I’m pretty sure you’re name’s Kevin…”
Amy took another bite out of her cookie.
“No, Sunghyun’s my birth name!”
“Oh~ …turtle babies.” (something my friends and I say when things are awkward.)
“What?”
“Nothing.” Amy continued to eat her lunch in silence with Kevin, sharing their drink.
“Awww you guys make a cute couple!”
“Shut up Eli!” Kevin kicked the seat next to him away so that his friend wouldn’t sit with him.
“Okay, I see how it is. I wanted to sit next to Amy anyway! And you guys are indirect kissing, so you have to be a secret couple! I figured you out! HAHA!”
Eli sat himself in the red chair next to Amy, pointing his fingers this way and that trying to put everything together.
“Eli-oppa! Stop, you make life too awkward.”
“Kevin and Amy sitting in a tree,” Kevin reached over the table attempting to cover his friends mouth, “ K-I-S-mph-mph-ehn-gmn!”
Success.
“Uhm… I have president like things to attend to… and Eli needs to help.”
“But I’m not in-“ Kevin shot Eli a glare, “oooohhh… yeah! I have to help Kevin with stuffs… BYE AMY!!”
Eli grabbed his bagged lunch and walked out of the cafeteria with Kevin ahead of him.
“Thanks guys. Thanks for leaving me. Alone. With no one beside me!”
“Amy, I’m sitting beside you! Thanks for ignoring me…”
Amy turned to her right and found her friend of several years sitting beside her.
“Liz! When’d you get here? You’re not in this lunch!”
Amy hugged the red headed girl next to her.
-outside the cafeteria-
“Dude what the heck was that for?”
“You like her; I’m helping you break the ice. Chill man!”
“I don’t need help!”
“Have you confessed to her?”
“No.”
“Then I’ll tell her for you!”
Eli started to walk back to the lunch room but Kevin caught his arm before he got away.
“Don’t! Please, I’m going to tell her…. soon.”
He let out a heavy sigh. How was he ever going to confess he liked her? They’ve been friends for years, and he didn’t want to ruin the strong friendship they had.
He rubbed the nape of his neck. It was embarrassing talking to Eli about this too. Eli and Amy went out last year and they were close. Eli broke up with her over the summer, saying they were better off as friends. Amy said she felt the same way, so luckily they were able to remain good friends to this day. In reality though, Eli really and truly liked Amy, but he knew that Kevin liked her a lot. He didn’t want to be caught in a one sided love he said when he told Kevin that he broke up with Amy.
Eli got over Amy quickly, and soon found himself in a relationship with Liz, Amy’s close friend and neighbor. With his new relationship, he became supportive of Kevin and did anything he could to help him with Amy.
“How soon?”
“This week? I’ll do it this week!”
“Then we need to come up with a plan!”
