“Myung!”   A faint whisper from the side causes Myung Soo to turn to that direction. He notices Amber turning as well, but he couldn’t help to have relief wash over him seeing his brother from another mother. The source of the voice halts on his track when he sees Amber there. The girl arches an eyebrow in curiosity at Sung Yeol.   “Where have you been?” Myung Soo hisses, taking Sung Yeol out of his reverie. The older boy doesn’t panic, but remains wary of Amber’s presence. Myung Soo moves to Sung Yeol, rubbing his stomach for some therapeutic effect; the pain is still throbbing.   “What did you do?” Sung Yeol seethes accusingly. “Why did you bring Amber Liu into this?”   Offended, Myung Soo immediately defends himself, “The moment I opened the door, it was Amber Liu standing there! One thing goes to another before she kneed me in the gut!” At the reminder, he groans in pain and glares at the girl.   Amber crosses her arms, staring at the boys. Any trace of her blue mood is gone and is replaced by calm curiosity. “You guys are acting suspicious.”   To Myung Soo’s surprise, Sung Yeol doesn’t even seem the slightest bit worry or stressed, and Amber doesn’t look like she is going to bail them out either. In fact, the older boy has a strained expression on his face and the girl looks like she’d rather hear their explanation first. He’d give her credit for that.   Sung Yeol shrugs, eyes not leaving Amber. “Well, we’ll just have to include her now that I’ve found out where Se Hun and Krystal are,” Amber’s eyes light up at this, “and their dads too.”   “What?! No we aren’t!”   “What do you mean Se Hun and Krystal?!”   “We aren’t taking her into this!”   “Include me in what?! And shut up, Kim Myung Soo! Don’t point at m-”   “Don’t tell me to shut up, Amber Liu!”   “-What are you guys planning?!”   Sung Yeol watches with amusement as the two talk and shout on top of each other as their distance shortens. He quickly tries to force them away from each other to avoid unwanted attention and fight.   “You two! Be quiet! What if someone finds us here?!”   “Did you guys, perhaps, sneak into this party uninvited?” Amber’s narrowed eyes scrutinise them. Silence wears on because the boys don’t, and can’t, answer it. Then, she speaks up again, “Although it was Ji Hoon oppa who made the event on facebook, he couldn’t have invited you two since you guys aren’t even close to Se Hun or him.”   Sung Yeol heaves an extra-large sigh and tries to reason with the two. First, he deals with Myung Soo. “Look, she found out! What else can we do? We can’t stop now and go home. We need answers, Myung! You want Krystal back, right?” After that, he turns to Amber, “I’ll explain if you would just calm down. We don’t want any more people in this than there already are. Three’s a crowd already.”   Amber wraps her arms in front of her chest again and looks on expectantly at Sung Yeol, ignoring the reluctant but defeated Myung Soo.   “The reason we’re here is to find out whether Krystal and Se Hun are engaged to each other.”   No response comes from the girl. She seems calmer than what they expect her to be. Her expression is unreadable as they wait for her to say something.   “Why do you think they are engaged to each other? You know that Se Hun is with me.” She looks at them like a parent does when they find their kids doing something naughty.   Sung Yeol begins to tell her about what happened that time at lunch when they accidentally overheard Amber and her friends discussing about Se Hun. Surprisingly, and coincidentally, Krystal broke up with Myung Soo for the same reason. The said boy is pouting is dismay at the humiliation he feels. He knows that Amber is in the same position as him, but his pride is wounded at the fact that his girlfriend is snatched away that easily by Amber’s boyfriend. The truth is not like that, but Myung Soo holding a grudge against that Oh is also a fact.   “Then, you said you’ve found out where those two are. So, where are they?” she prompts softly.   At this, Myung Soo forgets about his reluctance to have Amber in their mission because all he cares about is to find out the truth. They were…”   His expression looks grim and that’s when it registers in Myung Soo’s mind what is actually happening, why Sung Yeol didn’t even look panic when he saw Amber there, why he let Amber get into this. Because they can’t let her out of this knowing that she is already involved and she has the right to know.   His heart stops. He doesn’t even hear the end of Sung Yeol’s report. His head feels too dizzy and his gut twists uncomfortably, he feels like he is going to vomit.   “Where’s the garden?” he almost yells at Sung Yeol, then he sees Amber running past them towards the back of the house, into the deeper part of the dim corridor. Without another thought, he chases after the girl, assuming she knows where the said garden is.   He vaguely hears Sung Yeol shouting, “Guys, we were meant to be discreet!”   He doesn’t pay much attention because Amber turns to the left at the end of the corridor, running towards a glassed door with white border. She yanks the door open and runs out, while Myung Soo manages to catch it before it closes and makes his way out as well. His heartbeat is so loud in his ears. He focuses his eyes on Amber’s silhouette as he feels like his heart is being stabbed over and over again.   He knows he should have expected just as much from the possibility, but the reality hurts.
