Oh descriptions.
Don't they just want to make you laugh.
You think its just really easy to put "Jongin meets Kyungsoo in a coffee shop, what happens next?"
I know what happens next; Jongin talks to Kyungsoo, one of them fall in love imidately and then the the other two. They and since this is Kaisoo, one of them ends up dying. (owch my Kaisoo reader feels)
Or "SHINee go on a trip to a funfair, only they go to one in AMERCIA!!! Along the way they meet new friends what will happen?" no. Do you know why I hate them?
Do you EVER want to pick up a book and read the blurb, to find out it has revealed the whole plot? That bye reading that breif small bit that you can tell the ultimate ending of the book? If your answer is yest to this. Then. GET OUT. Pack your bags, delete all your stories and give up writing and stay away from me.
The purpose of a blurb is to give a small bit of information, a teaser if you like, to lure you into the reading the whole book. Just like in K-POP when attracting new fans. The blurb in a book, and a description are much like the same things. Only us lot are lukcy, because as well as our Description being limitless, when previewing a story, it gives you basic information, Tags, characters, Title... rating. And more importantly the first line of the description. This has a great impact on if I want to read your story or not. Some examples are as follows
✘ Kim Taeyeon used to be the most happy and cheerful girl. That was before she was in a major car accident when she was 13, turning her deaf Ever since then, Taeyeon has been rude and cold to everyone,
Laziness of authors who can't be bother to develop their characters and instead just introduce the whole back story at the begining. You should engrave these back stories through flasbacks and other characters.
✔ The deal had been made, but who was it really benefiting? How far will the maknae go to catch his leader, and who will get caught in the crossfire? - Just Another SHINee Story [M]
(ah you see I read the description and it was amazing, but then I copied the story title and I was like oh.)
Nice abeguity and use of rhetorical questions make the reader want to find out more and therefore make them click on the story.
✔ Takuya's beauty ensared Yong Guk the first time he saw the Japanese man. Yong Guk has been silently watching from the shadows but nothing lasts forever.... - Obsession [M]
Again with the titles I wince (SHINee's Lucifers Albumn) although I was close to naming my fic Grace and Pleasure [M] [Complete] the same name but realized how tacky that was T_T But doesn't the description just fascinate you?
✔ "The sun beams spilled onto our sheets, but I woke up in darkness. I did not want to open my eyes. Bad things happen when p... - Jeijei Island
Speaking of my fics.... *shrugs*
Didn't want to ephatise on the negatives but focus on the postives >.< Yes, Descriptions are very important. Tell me, which ones out of this list will you or have you read? I know I haven't updated in a long long time but what do you guys think so far? I'm hoping this helps alot.... gif spam? okie dokie you ask for it.
