Sugar, Spice, and All Things Nice {Kyungsoo}

Out of this World - An EXO One Shot Collection

{Kyungsoo}

Noh Hyejung was reading a recipe for triple chocolate cookies when her doorbell rang. She glanced one last time at the recipe book in an attempt to memorize it before wiping her hands on her apron and opening the door. Hyejung was surprised to find her boyfriend, standing there with a bright smile on his face. When she saw him, she hugged him and invited him into her apartment. She immediately cringed when she realized how messy her apartment was and quickly tried to clean it by kicking things under the sofa and table. She grabbed a broom and started sweeping.

Kyungsoo laughed at his girlfriend's cute behavior and sat down on the couch. Even though there were clothes and books strewn all over it, he didn't care since that was just the way he liked it. "I don't understand why you even try to keep this place clean," he commented, taking a look around, "It's going to be dirty by the end of the day again." Hyejung looked offended at her boyfriend's comments, but then realized that they were true. So she dropped the broom she was using to sweep up the floor with and instead plopped down beside Kyungsoo on the couch.

"So what brings you here today?" she asked, looking at him with big eyes that rivaled even his. The two of them had earned the nickname 'The Big Eyed Couple' for a reason, and this was it. Kyungsoo's eyes were big, but Hyejung's were even bigger.

Kyungsoo chuckled. "What, can I not come visit my beautiful girlfriend?"

Hyejung tipped her head to the side, as if pondering it for a moment before saying, "Of course!" with a big bright smile. But then she looked at him suspiciously, "But you never do that so what gives?"

He laughed when he realized he had gotten caught. He held up his hands, as if surrendering to her. "Alright, you caught me. Chanyeol was being weird again I didn't want to stay in the dorm with him while he was like that."

"It's always Chanyeol isn't it?" She laughed and snuggled closer to Kyungsoo. "But I'm glad, because it gives me more time to spend with you."

That was when Kyungsoo realized that Hyejung was wearing her apron and asked her what that was about. He knew that she hated cooking, so he was curious as to why she would wear it. Hyejung looked down and saw that she was indeed wearing the green apron Kyungsoo had gotten her as a gag gift for Christmas. She seemed to have forgotten what she was doing before he suddenly arrived at her apartment. "Oh!" she exclaimed, jumping up and rushing into the kitchen.

Kyungsoo followed her into the small kitchen, only to see that it was even messier than the rest of her dorm. Pots and pans were on the floor and ingredients were spread out all over the place, not in any certain order. "I was going to bake cookies, so sorry about the mess,” she said, pushing some of the pots out of the way.

"Why were you going to bake cookies?" he asked, leafing through a recipe book she had left open on the counter. "You're not trying to poison anyone with your cooking skills, right?" he joked, although he quickly looked down at the book when she sent him a glare.

"I was not, thank you very much," she said, snatching the book from his hands. "I'm failing my writing class," she explained, though that only seemed to make Kyungsoo even more confused. She sighed and elaborated on her plan. "Mrs. Jung, my writing teacher, loves chocolate cookies. I'm hoping for a couple points extra credit."

Kyungsoo cracked up laughing, thinking it was all a joke. When he saw that she was serious about her plan, he frowned. "Hyejung, you can't bribe your teacher with cookies."

"And why not?" she asked, defiantly putting her hands on her hips.

"Because you just can't," he said, not really giving her a definite answer. "And besides," he started, a cheeky smile creeping up his face, "I thought you said you wanted extra credit, not get kicked out of the class because you gave your teacher food poisoning." Kyungsoo had exactly three seconds to duck before Hyejung's spatula hit him. Luckily for him, he used those three seconds wisely and hit the floor before she could even throw it at him.

"You are mean," she decided, sticking her tongue out childishly at him. Hyejung pushed him out of her kitchen and towards the door. "If you aren't going to help me, you should go back home."

He turned around and twisted out of her grasp. "But I don't want too!" he whined. "Chanyeol is still there."

She shrugged, seemingly unsympathetic to her boyfriend. "Goodbye, Kyungsoo," she sing-songed, opening the door for him.

"What if I help you?" he offered, not moving from his position. "You know I'm a really good cook. If I help, your teacher will bump you up a whole letter grade!" He exclaimed dramatically. Even though they both knew that that obviously wouldn't happen, Hyejung still considered the offer. Kyungsoo wasn't worried though. Hyejung would never kick him out, anyway. And she also knew first hand just how good Kyungsoo's cooking is.

"Fine," she said finally, and he smiled, "but no more comments about my awful cooking skills."

He nodded, agreeing to her terms. He made a mental note to remember not to make any more jokes, though, lest he accidentally forgot and let a comment slip. "So where's the recipe?" Hyejung handed him the book, already open to the page with the triple chocolate cookies on it. He read it over and a couple minutes later was ready to bake.

Twenty minutes later and the kitchen was starting to look more like a war zone than a place where delicious desserts are made. As soon as the couple started baking, Hyejung made a mistake. She had accidentally put in one tablespoon of salt instead of one teaspoon. After that mishap, Kyungsoo made the next mistake. Instead of beating the eggs and sugar together, he beat the eggs and flour together, creating one big sticky mess. And when they had tried to discard that sticky mess, it somehow ended up landing on the floor, causing an even bigger problem.

"This is not working out," Hyejung said as she finally finished cleaning her kitchen floor. She was starting to wonder if spending all this effort on one batch of cookies was even worth it.

"Well we already started, so we might as well finish," Kyungsoo said, getting a fresh bowl and dumping two cups of flour into it. That wasn't the smartest move, since a lot of it blew up and fell over the side of the bowl and onto the floor, right onto Hyejung. When Kyungsoo saw the top of Hyejung's head, which was now speckled white thanks to the flour, he couldn't help but crack up laughing.

Hyejung stood up and grabbed a handful of flour and threw it on Kyungsoo, immediately ceasing his laughter. She smiled sweetly at him, and innocent expression on her face. "Oops." She busted out laughing, and said in between her giggles, "Not so funny now, is it?"

"No," Kyungsoo said slowly, reaching behind him for another handful of flour, "but this is!" When Hyejung saw what he was about to do she shrieked and ran away laughing, telling him not to come any closer to her.

What had started out as an innocent mistake from Kyungsoo turned into a full blown food fight. Even though they were turning the kitchen into something unrecognizable, the couple were having way too much fun at the moment to care. Laughter and screams could be heard from even outside the apartment, with the occasional shout of "No! Don't throw that at me!" being heard also.

After a while, the fighting died down. But mostly only because they had run out of flour. The two continued to laugh at each other's state. Hyejung knew she looked like a mess, with eggs in her hair and flour all over her face, but she didn't care, since she knew that Kyungsoo looked worse. His face was as white as a ghost, but not from shock, instead it was from the flour. There was butter in his hair and eggs dripping down his shirt. When the couple looked at themselves in the mirror, their laughter started all over again.

After they cleaned themselves up, they fully realized the extent of their food fight. When Kyungsoo saw just how big of a mess he and Hyejung had made, he started to inch towards the door, quietly muttering goodbye to his girlfriend. Hyejung was having none of that though. She pulled him back and put his apron back on him. "You make the cookies, I'll start cleaning," she ordered. He was too scared to disobey her.

An hour later, the cookies were in the over and the two of them finally finished cleaning up the place. Just in time, too, since as soon as they put their cleaning supplies in the sink and washed their hands, the oven dinged, alerting them that the cookies were finished baking.

Kyungsoo grabbed an oven mitt and hurriedly pulled the cookies out. Immediately, a chocolaty scent filled the apartment. Hyejung looked over Kyungsoo's shoulder, taking a peek at the delicious looking cookies. She breathed in deeply and a satisfied smile appeared on her face. "They smell good!"

"And I bet they taste even better," he said, giving her the first cookie. He watched as she hungrily bit into it. And then he watched as she immediately spit it out.

In Hyejung's defense, the cookies tasted pretty bad, and anyone would've spit it out. But seeing Kyungsoo's disappointed expression, she figured she should apologize, though for what, she didn't exact know. "I'm sorry," she said, "but I think you should taste it yourself."

He snatched a cookie off the baking sheet and shoved it into his mouth, chewing thoughtfully. He immediately regretted it though, since it was pretty awful. "What happened? Did you do something to these?" he asked, casting an accusing look on Hyejung.

Hyejung's jaw dropped at his audacity to accuse her of sabotaging the cookies. "Excuse me, but I was supposed to give these to my teacher, remember?" Kyungsoo's cheeks reddened when he realized that she was right and he had accused her for nothing. "I think it was your fault," she said, patting his shoulder sympathetically. "Welcome to the Bad Cooks club, Kyungsoo," she joked, trying to cheer him up.

"But there's just no way!" he exclaimed. He examined the cookies, looked at the recipe, and then observed the cookies again. "I followed this recipe to a tee! I'm sure of it."

Hyejung tentatively took a bite of another cookie, and her previous assumption was right. "Kyungsoo, I think you mixed up the salt and the sugar," she said, giving him another sorry look.

Kyungsoo grabbed the cookie out of Hyejung's hands and bit into it, confirming her words. "You're right..." he muttered sadly. "These are saltier than the ocean."

"It's okay," she told him, trying to perk her boyfriend up. "I can give these to my art teacher!"

He looked at her with a bewildered expression. "What? Why would you want to give these to anyone at all?" he asked, shocked that she even thought about giving these horrid cookies to someone else.

Hyejung smiled impishly and simply said, "I don't like my art teacher."

And Kyungsoo couldn't help but laugh. “Thanks for cheering me up, Hyejung,” he said, kissing her on the top of her head.

She smiled proudly, hands on her hips and a determined look on her face. “To make you even more happier, I shall make us dinner!” She started taking out pots and pans and opened the fridge to get ingredients.

Kyungsoo looked hesitant about her making him dinner. So instead, he suggested something else. “How about we go out for dinner?” he asked gently.

Hyejung opened to say something, but then thought better of it. She untied her apron and hooked her arm into his. “I think that's a wonderful idea. I wouldn’t want to forget the sugar or something, like someone I know,” she teased.

“Hey!” Kyungsoo cried out as they walked out her apartment. “That was a one time thing! That will never happen again,” he promised.

“Really? Then do you think you could make me some muffins?” Hyejung innocently asked him.

Kyungsoo looked at her, an exasperated look on his face. “What? Why?”

“Because my math teacher likes muffins. And I'm getting a D in her class.”

“No,” was all he simply said, “I am not going through this again.”

And as the couple walked off on their way to the restaurant, their trivial arguing could be heard all the way down to the street.
