They're Next! {Luhan}

Out of this World - An EXO One Shot Collection

{Luhan}

Luhan was bored out of his mind. He was currently at his girlfriend's aunt's wedding (against his will, mind you). He already wanted to go home, but unfortunately, the wedding hadn't even started yet. Wu Mei Ling, his wonderful (most of the time, anyway) girlfriend of five years was chatting with some of her family members and had just left him to sit and wait by himself. Luhan would be talking to Mei Ling's mother, a lovely woman who he has come to love over the years he's known her, but Mrs. Wu was with her not-as-equally-lovely husband, Mr. Wu Hu Long.

Luhan doesn't have a problem with Mei Ling's father, but Mr. Wu doesn't share his feelings. It's Mr. Wu that has a problem with him. He still hadn't figured out exactly why the man hated him, but Mr. Wu just did. No matter how many times Mei Ling tried to get the two of them to like each other, it never worked. Luhan still makes an effort to get to know the man, but over the years, his efforts have been getting less enthusiastic and more half hearted. Though it's not exactly Luhan's fault. Mr. Wu always avoided him wherever they were.

Mei Ling caught the eye of her poor, lonely boyfriend sitting by himself and excused herself and headed over to him. As she did, he couldn't help but notice just how beautiful his girlfriend was. And that light pink curve hugging dress she was wearing made him realize just exactly how lucky he was. "You look lonely," she said, snapping him out of his staring. She rolled her eyes when she realized he was basically drooling at the sight of her.

He quickly snapped out of it and pretended like he wasn't just checking her out a few seconds before. When what Mei Ling said clicked in his head, Luhan rolled his big eyes at her and said with more than enough sarcasm, "Oh, really, I wonder why that is." When Mei Ling narrowed her eyes at him and stood up to leave him once again, he grabbed her by the waist and pulled her back down onto his lap. "Sorry, babe," he said with a small smile. "I'm just really tired and bored."

She leaned in and gave him a quick peck on the lips before whispering in an embarrassed tone, "Luhan, I think you should let go of me now." Luhan raised an eyebrow, questioning her with his eyes. "My father is giving you one of the nastiest glares I have ever seen him give someone," she explained quietly.

With that being said, he unwillingly pushed his girlfriend off his lap and looked to his left, only to be met with the cold stare of Mei Ling's father (she was right, that was one of the nastiest glares he had ever had the misfortune of receiving). His girlfriend's mother, being a witness to this quiet exchange between the two men, lightly elbowed her husband, a signal for him to stop glaring at the poor boy. She grabbed her husband's arm and together, they walked towards Luhan and Mei Ling.

"Luhan!" Mrs. Wu lightly gave the boy a peck on the cheek and a hug. "It's so nice seeing you here!" She gave her husband a look, one that obviously urged him to greet his daughter's boyfriend also.

When he still didn't say anything, Mrs. Wu let out an exasperated sigh, having been used to this behavior before. She gave Luhan a look of apology and he just shrugged it off. Luhan looked up from the ground and saw that Mr. Wu still hadn't acknowledged him and quickly looked down again.

An awkward silence fell upon the four of them.

Mei Ling coughed lightly, before taking Luhan's hand in her own and giving it a reassuring squeeze, sensing that he was feeling uncomfortable. He gave a squeeze back, letting her know that he was okay. Mrs. Wu, witnessing this showing of affection, smiled at the cute couple. Mr. Wu, on the other hand, just gruffly mumbled something incoherent. Mei Ling coughed again, a little louder this time, and smiled sweetly when she gained the other three's attention. She turned towards her mother and asked, "Mom, what time does the wedding start?"

Mrs. Wu took her husband's wrist and looked at the watch on his hand. "The invitation said the wedding would start at one o' clock..." she trailed off, still looking at the watch, "but it looks like they're getting off to a late start. It's already five past one-" She was barely finished with her sentence when the organ started to play the Wedding March song.

The two couples quickly took their seats next to each other, Luhan and Mr. Wu on opposite side, their respective ladies next to them separating the two. To Luhan, the ceremony passed by in a whir, and before he knew it, he was being seated for the reception and dinner. He looked around in awe at the large hall, where the reception was being held, and leaned over to Mei Ling, whispering, "Did the ceremony already finish?"

She raised an eyebrow at him and looked at him as if he was crazy (he probably was). "Did you not pay attention at all?" When he shook his head meekly with an impish smile on his face, she sighed and shook her head, trying to hold in a laugh. "Yes, it did. We're at the reception now. My aunt," she pointed up to the stage, where a beautiful woman dressed in white was trying to hold back tears as she made her speech, and the man wearing a black tuxedo standing next to her had the biggest grin on his face, "is making her speech. Her husband is making his next. Be quiet and pay attention," she scolded, though they both knew that she too, was bored.

After a couple of minutes (and a long, long tear-inducing speech later), the newlyweds left the stage, but not before telling everyone that dinner would be served shortly. This earned them a loud round of applause, especially from the corner where Luhan was sitting.

"Best thing I've heard all day," Luhan muttered under his breath, still clapping loudly. Ming Lei still heard him, though, and rightfully gave him a look. When he gave her his picture perfect scowl in return to her look, she didn't even blink an eye. No wonder they were perfect for each other.

True to the newly wedded couple's words, dinner was served in a few moments. Luhan basically drooled as he saw the basket of bread rolls get put out on each table. The rolls were followed by the entree of grilled tenderloin served with a side of baby carrots and mushrooms. Luhan his lips deliciously, finishing his tasty meal quickly, and even wanting more. He started to pick baby carrots off of Mei Ling's plate, since he knew she hated them. Surprisingly, she swatted his hand away. Mei Ling gave her boyfriend a look and told him, "Stop eating off of my plate. You ate your meal so quickly I'm surprised you didn't get sick." When he pouted at her, she sighed, gave him one more carrot, and said, "Save some room for dessert," then she leaned in and acted as if she was going to tell him some big secret. "I heard the wedding cake is chocolate," she whispered, "and I know that's your favorite."

Soon enough (but not a moment too soon for Luhan) the wedding couple came out with their beautiful cake. They said a few more grateful words and finally cut the wedding cake. And like Mei Ling promised, the cake indeed was chocolate, Luhan's favorite.

"This is so good," Luhan said through a mouthful of cake. He shoveled some more into his mouth before Mei Ling told him to slow down. "But it's so yummy," he told her. Still, he slowed down his eating and swallowed what he had in his mouth before taking another bite.

Mei Ling just shook her head, laughing slightly. "You're lucky you get to dance off all that food you just ate," she said, and then in one swift movement, pulled her still eating boyfriend up from his seat and onto the dance floor.

He objected but it was no use. Luhan was already stuck in the dancing crowd. And since he was already there, he might as well dance. Luhan whipped out all of his special dance moves, just for Mei Ling. Even though she was acting all embarrassed, they both knew that she loved it. Somehow, Luhan was the center of a dance circle, and all eyes were on him. He continued dancing, with people cheering him on and loudly whistling, but he caught Mei Ling's eyes and got the sudden idea to share his new found attention. He never did like being the center of attention anyway, at least, not alone. Luhan pulled his surprised girlfriend into the center of the circle with him. She objected at first, but soon got into the rhythm and beat of the music again. Mei Ling smiled and laughed happily when Luhan spun her around. Everyone around them looked on and cheered for the beautiful couple on the dance floor.

The fun came to an end, though, when the bride made an announcement that the bouquet toss and garter toss were about to start. The dance floor was cleared off for the events to take place there.

When Mei Ling's aunt asked for all the unmarried women to come to the floor for the bouquet toss, Luhan pushed his girlfriend towards the dance floor. She was a bit reluctant, though. "No," she said, opposing the idea, "I don't want to. I'll never catch it anyway, so what's the point."

Luhan wouldn't take no for an answer, and continued to push her towards the growing group of unmarried women. "You never know, and it'll be fun. Just go try," he said, coaxing her into the idea. The only reason he was trying to persuade her to go out there was because he remembered she had said something about it one day. They were talking about this wedding and she said that it would be cool to catch the bouquet, though she'd never actually attempted before.

She sighed but agreed, but only on one condition, "If I go to the bouquet toss, you have to go out for the garter toss." Luhan knew he was caught then, and even though he didn't want to, he said yes for her sake. She gave him a sweet smile and went onto the dance floor.

Luhan couldn't help but laugh at the sight on the dance floor. Since Mei Ling was on the short side, the women were towering over her, and the only girls she was taller than were the little girls who came out for the fun and excitement. She saw him laughing at the scene and narrowed her eyes at him, seeming to blame him for all the embarrassment about to take place.

One, two, three!

The bride threw her bouquet high into the air. Everyone seemed to hold their breath as the flowers flew through the air towards the anticipating group of women. Luhan was watching this and it seemed to happen all in slow motion for him. He saw the bride turn around, a big smile on her face as she followed the bundle of flowers with her eyes, awaiting the moment that it would land into the lucky girl's arms. Luhan, as did everyone else, also followed the bouquet with his eyes. It went racing towards the expecting girls, and he even saw two bridesmaid jump up in an attempt to reach it. The flowers sailed right past them, though. It actually passed all the women who were standing in the front. The bouquet kept going and only stopped when it landed in the hands of a girl standing in the back.

Mei Ling had caught it.

Her cheeks turned a bright pink, a tell tale sign of her embarrassment. Everyone clapped and hooted for her, and the bride ran up to Mei Ling and gave her a hug and congratulated her. She was still an embarrassed and blushing mess, barely even registering what was happening. Mei Ling could only hold up the bundle of flowers and smiled meekly for the picture that was being taken of her and her aunt.

All the while, on the other side of the dance floor was Luhan laughing his head off at his girlfriend's current predicament. Never would he have thought she'd actually catch the flowers, considering how competitive the other women were. It seemed to have just flew straight into Mei Ling's unexpecting hands. Mei Ling caught sight of her boyfriend having the time of his life at her expense and glared at him. He waved at her and continued laughing. She only had to mouth the words 'you're next' to him and that shut him up real quick.

She posed for a few more pictures and walked over to where Luhan was, all the while smiling sweetly. "I hope you have as much fun as I did while catching the garter!" she said mock enthusiastically and pushed him towards the dance floor where all the men were gathering for the garter toss.

Luhan, like Mei Ling had for the bouquet toss, stood in the back, hoping that the tall men in front of him would catch the garter before it even reached his point. He should of known that it wouldn't have worked out that way, just like how it didn't work for Mei Ling. Like her, his plans to go unnoticed in the background were also ruined, as the garter seemed to fly from the groom's hands straight into Luhan's.

He stared at the garter in disbelief. He had no idea how it landed so neatly in his hands. He wasn't even holding his hands out in any attempt to catch it! Unlike Mei Ling, he kept a cool face on and smiled as if he had meant to catch it all along.

After a couple awkward pictures of just him and groom, Mei Ling's aunt called Mei Ling out to take pictures with Luhan and her husband. When she realized that the two who had caught the bouquet and garter were dating, she squealed into her microphone and announced it to the whole party. "Look at these two! My beautiful niece and her boyfriend were the ones that caught the garter and bouquet. How exciting! It must've been fate!" she joked, earning laughter and cat calls throughout the room.

Mei Ling blushed while Luhan just pulled her closer to him so they could pose for pictures. Mei Ling leaned a bit closer to him and said through her smile, "I hope you're happy now. I am so embarrassed."

He just laughed at her and replied, "Well you know what they say about the people who catch the garter and bouquet." When she gave him a questioning look, he exclaimed, "They're the next ones to get married!"

And Mei Ling blushed even harder.
