There Were Battles

Dragon's Blood

"Suho? Suho, stay with us," D.O. sounded nervous as he hovered next to the injured boy. Suho's head was resting on Sehun's shoulder, his eyes barely open and his skin frighteningly pale. His hand that somehow managed to keep Sehun's sweater against his wound was stained with red, making me worry about just how much blood he'd lost.

I felt guilty for not hovering around him like D.O. was, but the sound of Chanyeol's laboured breathing next to me kept me at the taller boy's side. Kai ran between the two boys, unsure of who needed his attention more.

"Do you think we'll make it, Baekhyunnie?" Chanyeol asked, his voice breathy and light. The fight had taken a lot out of him, and I could tell that he was trying his hardest to walk alongside the rest of us.

"Of course we will, you just have to hang in there," I said, grabbing his hand that was suddenly frighteningly cold and clammy. I rubbed my thumb in circles on the back of it, trying my best to soothe the boy, but he shook his head adamantly.

"It's not me I'm worried about," He whispered.

I frowned, remembering that we were on a time limit for two people now, not just one. Luckily, we had already made it quite far up the mountain, the lightning constantly shooting above us making it easier to navigate the rocky terrain.

Aside from our heavy breaths as we climbed and the sound of our footsteps, it had grown eerily silent and I had to wonder where all the thunder had gone, but the second that thought surfaced in my mind, a loud crash echoed through the skies. I flinched, the noise startling me out of my wits, and I quickly glanced around to see if anyone had noticed my brief spout of fear.

Turning my head, a movement behind us caught my attention and I turned to see another group of men racing up the mountainside towards us. They were dressed in the same way as our previous attackers, but there was roughly four times the amount and one carried a large flag, giving off the impression of a small army racing towards us.

". !" I grabbed Chanyeol's wrist, pulling him as I sped up my pace. "Guys, run!" Everyone turned to look back at me in confusion, wondering why I was suddenly rushing them, when they saw the men that were quickly gaining on us.

Everyone burst into a panic, trying to make our way up as fast as we could, but Chanyeol and Sehun were having much difficulty, slowing the rest of us down.

Seeing how much distance we still had to cover, I felt my heart sink. There was no way we would make it to the top of the mountain before our attackers would be upon us.

"Damn it..." I took a deep breath and turned. "I'll hold them off, you guys go ahead." I directed my statement to Sehun and Chanyeol who both gaped at me in shock.

"What?! No!" Chanyeol gripped my wrist but I pulled away from him.

"We'll never outrun them, I'm going to try and distract them as much as I can," I explained.

"Then I'll help," Kai said, stepping forward.

"And me," D.O. walked next to Kai, taking his hand.

Luhan opened his mouth to agree but I shook my head.

"You have to lead the others to safety," I said and Luhan seemed to realize that I was right, nodding in agreement although he didn't look happy about it.

"Then Luhan take Suho, I wanna help the others," Sehun said, about to hoist the injured boy off his back.

"Sehun, come with us," Luhan argued. "You're taller and it's best if you're here in case something goes wrong."

Sehun's brow furrowed and he looked ready to argue, but at a stern look from the shorter blond and I caused him to nod.

"Baekhyun, I don't want to leave you," Chanyeol said. "I can fight too."

"That would be counterproductive," I sighed, glancing back at the quickly approaching men. "Now hurry, they're almost here!" I shoved Chanyeol lightly and Luhan took his hand, leading him up and away from the three of us.

D.O., Kai and I all exchanged petrified looks. While our intentions were admirable, we all knew that there was no way we'd be able to take down all these men.

A particularly bright streak of lightning shot through the sky then, causing the entire mountainside to flash white, and I felt a sudden calm rush through me. "We can do this. For Chanyeol."

The other two nodded, steeling themselves for the impending attack, and after taking a collected breath, we charged towards the attackers.

Time seemed to flow in slow motion when we collided with the enemies. I ducked under one's fist, barrelling into another, and Kai and D.O. sent a good number toppling to the floor. We were a mess of arms and legs, limbs flying everywhere, and I lost sight of the other two as I tried my best to stay alive and take down as many as I could.

Battlecries and cries of pain erupted from the melee, the latter of which I'd hoped were not coming from Kai or D.O.

We managed to fight a good battle for a few minutes, but then I realized that we were vastly outnumbered and outskilled. A hard shove from my side sent me flying and I collided with D.O. who was being forced back by two men.

I pressed my back against his and we both raised our fists, but I realized that we hadn't managed to incapacitate one single man. "Well, we're doomed," I said with a sigh.

"You're telling me," D.O. dead panned.

I was about  to look around for Kai, but just then, one of the men was knocked to the ground at my feet. His face, or what I could see of it, was scrunched up in pain, and I couldn't help but feel very impressed at  the young dancer for being able to take down a man of his size. I turned my head to congratulate him and was met with an unfamiliar face, this time not obscured by a mask.

Dark brown eyes were staring back at me, black bangs hanging low above them. The boy standing next to me was quite tall, possibly as tall as Chanyeol, and his outfit matched those of the other men in color, but instead of a jacket, his shirt reminded me more of a poncho with a longer back and tassles hanging down from it.

He stared at me and I felt an intense rush of fear as he raised a fist, but when I flinched, preparing myself for the blow, he moved past me, punching another guy in the face.

D.O. and I were frozen in awe, watchign as this mysterious man took down everyone around us with the skill of a martial artist, and soon the crowd had thinned enough for me to see Kai, surrounded by three men. The skilled fighter didn't hesitate to go to Kai's aid, quickly deflecting the attacks meant for Kai and allowing the young boy to run to our side.

"A few went past you guys already," The man spoke, returning to us quickly. His voice was surprisingly soft. He nodded his head up the mountain, where I could see two silhouettes hot on Chanyeol's tail. "There's only two but they're strong," He continued. "Can you handle them?"

One of the men was the flag carrier, and he brandished it like a weapon, making me feel slightly intimidated. "Y-yeah," I said, taking a deep breath and ascending the mountainside before I could hesitate, flanked by D.O. and Kai.

"Who was that guy?" Kai asked, his voice slightly breathless.

"I dunno but thank god he's on our side," D.O. responded with a light chuckle.

I couldn't help but agree, wondering who he was but not having enough time to think about it. "Come on, we have to get to Chanyeol," I said, worried that the others wouldn't be able to fend off the men on their own. I glanced back, looking at the newcomer once more, and wishing him luck too as he took on over a dozen men by himself.

Hello, short chapter but I sort of consider this the first part of the chapter, I just wanted to get it up before school started tomorrow and I'd get distracted from the roll I've been on the past two days. But enough of my rambling, hope to upload again soon :)

I'm a late comer. I've already subbed to the sequel after reading that first [backward reading, I know] but this one was really enjoyable. It even got me to laugh. I was thoroughly entertained.

The thing that really made me enjoy this is that the main pair was presented from an outsider's point of view; not many people take the time to weave together a story from such a shady area, and so I'm forever grateful for it. Just know that you've possibly earned a permanent reader.
