What About Action Stories?

This is very important for action story. I often see an author uses the word 'sword', 'gun', and 'fist' while there are plenty other terms you can use. My tips? Again, do research.

Instead of 'Sword', there are:
  1. Blade
  2. Steel
  3. Cutting edge
  4. Katana
  5. Dagger (depends)
  6. Chinsa
 
 
Gun:
  1. Firearm
  2. Pistol
  3. Revolver
  4. Handgun
  5. Pretty much all types of firearms, actually
 
 
Powers:
  1. Skills
  2. Talents
  3. Abilities
  4. Specialties
  5. Endowments
  6. Forces
 
Fist:
  1. Arm
  2. Limb
  3. Knuckles
  4. Hand
  5. Palm
 
 
Universal:
  1. Weapon
  2. Attack
  3. Armament
  4. Weaponry
  5. Defense
 
There's so many atlernative words honestly that can make your story more interesting. Adding adjectives to the weapon can help too (ex: shining blade, blazing gun, or clenched fist). These can help draw attention away from the common use of the word.
 
Boredom can also be avoided by adding some dialogue, putting in vague action after the character speaks. That way, you can say, 'he said, jerking out ofan attack's path.' , after the speech in question. Use this to lessen the mention of weapons.
 
Also, changing weapons during the battle itself can be useful. Having characters lose weapons and switch them out for something else can be better and easier to write about.
 
For those who are /going to write/ writing star trek related-fics, Wikipedia got the list of weapons in Star Trek. Why do I think about it? Because Star Trek is awesome and I saw many stories about it :)

Chapter 1: this is what i needed! i'm trying to work on an action fic but i've never write story in that genre which makes it harder for me. Thanks for making a tutorial/workshop like this ^^

Chapter 1: Oh I'm stalking this! I'm currently planning a action fic too! Actually the outline, character info everything is more or less out. But I'm going to read this and take some advice. :) Even with just the planning, I actually had a lot of fun with it. Maybe it's because I'm finally really putting this idea of mine down. Because mine is more of a secret agent/double identity kind of thing, I researched more on the system than the weapons.. maybe I'm doing it wrong. I'm still at my planning stage so I'm going to see how this workshop can help me! ^^
