Their first conversations.
Unbreak My Heart
Kris
Seoul, South Korea
Finally! I’m in Seoul. I climb down the bus. Fighting! I whispered myself. I looked to my left and right. Aish! I don’t really know where I am going. I turned around to look for some signs. Where should I go? I looked to my right and saw a little girl running towards me. She’s wearing black t-shirt and pants. She’s got a Yankees baseball cap. Nice. We bumped each other. She got onto her knees. Uh-oh. Must be a pretty hard bump.
“Mianhae!” I helped the little girl get onto her foot. “Where is the SMEnt Building?” I asked in English.
“Mianhae! Gomawo! Aish! SM? Follow me.” She said in English and she ran off.
Wow, she’s in a real hurry. I didn’t even knew her name. I wonder why. But I did ran after her.
There are so many people here. I wonder why they held the auditions overseas sooner than here in Seoul? Anyway, this will be my first time to be here in SMEnt Building. Everyone is friendly and the place is so big! So this is the place where idols like Super Junior, BoA, and DBSK was born. They are so amazing.
Back in the audition line, I saw the girl that I bumped. She’s really small compared to me. But she’s kind of cute. I hope she gets in. Someone welcomed me and she led me to the place where new trainees will get a tour of the SM Building. I got to be friends with the other trainees. There is a guy I met. His name is Jong-in but he is kind of snob.
On the way, I saw other trainees in the practice room. This Jong-in guy seems to have a friend named Taemin. They greeted each other when we passed by. We passed by another practice room. And oh, I found nine pretty girls. I think they are going to debut soon enough. Because it seemed like they were practicing a concept. We passed by another practice room and saw two younger girls than me. They are really cute girls. I saw one of them look at me. She smiled at me. I smiled to her in return. And we moved on to our previous businesses.
“This is the audition hall. You can see many people are trying to get here in SM Entertainment. In those long lines you see, not more than ten people will make it. Consider yourself lucky. Life here is a competition. Mind you.” The tour guide told us.
And I looked at the audition hall. The girl I met this morning was up. I gazed at her. She did a sing and dance. Her voice is really good. And her dancing skills are really fierce and powerful. I hope she gets in.

And so I got the place. The very next day we got the results. My Mom was really happy for me. She was right. No one knew I am Lee Soo Man’s niece. The next day we got the results; I pack my belongings and moved to SM Academy.
New trainees like me will train together. It was my first day, they asked everybody to introduce ourselves. “Annyeong haseyo. Lee Soonkyu imnida. I trained in Wheesung’s company for five years. But the company went bankrupt and I auditioned here in SM Entertainment.” I said in Korean. There is one guy that kept staring at me though. He seemed familiar, but he’s Chinese. I’ve known no Chinese before. “Annyeong haseyo. Wu Fan imnida. I came from Canada. But I am Chinese. I know Basic Korean. Please be good to me.” He said the latter parts in straight English.
During our break, this Chinese guy spoke to me.
“Annyeong.” He said.
“Annyeong.” I replied. “Please take a seat.” I spoke to him in Korean. Good thing he understood me.
“You don’t remember me, do you?” he asked me. I shook my head. “We met the other day in the bus stop. I asked you where the SM building is.”
“Oh. Right! That’s why you’re familiar… Hey, I’m sorry about that day. I’m in a hurry. You know, auditions.”
“You can call me Kris. That’s my name back in Canada.”
“Okay, Kris. You can call me Sunny.”
“Sunny.” He repeated. "Why?"
"Because I don't like my name. It sounds old." I smiled at him.
We shook hands.
