Define Kismet

OMG Readers! It's almost two freaking years that I've updated this story. I swear it was just last month that I haven't updated it. I'm not going to apologize for the delay because it'll just a lame excuse. Instead, I've been so busy the past two years that I haven't have time to do any update. Plus, I had a big writers block for this story. It literally took me two hours just to write this chapter. It's been too long since I wrote it so I had to reread the chapters to have my story flow come back to me. I hope I don't disappoint you with this chapter. Enjoy and Happy New Years.

-----------------------

It’s been a week since Dabin encountered the rude man who refused to move from the table she was sitting. She had dealt with men like him before, making them scare of her but for some reason she gave up her table to him. Why did she move when he should be the one leaving? Dabin was irritated with him and he just knocked her threats through the windows. How could such man exist?

Byunghun couldn’t remember where he met the lady. He swore he saw her somewhere before but couldn’t place his fingers on it. Why was it bothering him so much? She was just a lady like everyone else, yet he couldn’t forget her face. He was mesmerized by her. For the past week, he wasn’t able to sleep because of her. What exactly about her that intrigued him so much?

Myunsoo didn’t understand why Dabin lost a table to a man who refused to leave? He was confused, lost. Dabin has never lost an argument with anyone, let alone have them step over her. So why did she move? Did the man irritate her that bad? Did the guy say something that threatened her to move? He couldn’t understand at all. Through their years of friendship, Myunsoo has never seen Dabin give her up place, not even to Myunsoo or that son-of-a-gun. What happened when he was in the restroom?

-----------------------------

“Umma! You said you wouldn’t interfere with this again?” Byunghun cried, tossing the photo his umma handed to him.

“I did say I wouldn’t interfere, but Byunghun ah, I’m tired of hearing all the mothers out there talking about their wonderful daughter-in-law. I stare at them wondering when I too will get a daughter-in-law I can go shopping with or tell the world that I have the greatest daughter-in-law.” His mother stared at him with sorrow eyes.

“Umma, I promise you that I will find you that daughter-in-law you’re wanting, but you have to give me time. All these girls that you keep hooking me up with, they’re not any good. They have thick make-up that covered their entire face. Not only that but I want someone who will love me and my family. Not some girl that will only pay attention to me and disregard you, appa, and my dongseng.” Byunghun explained to his sad umma.

“Alright but please, don’t take too long.”

“I know umma. I know.” Byunghun closed his eyes, wanting to beat himself for lying to his umma. No way in hell will he be able to find such lady in this world so fast.

----------------------------------------------------

“I need these papers by the end of the day, do you understand?” Dabin ordered her secretary who merely nodded her head before dashing out of the room.

No one can stand being in the same room as Dabin when she’s mad. Everyone knows to stay clear of her path when she’s in deep concentration or was pissed-off. There is yet a person who can burst that bubble of hers, not even her ex-boyfriend. Dabin thought he didn’t want to intervened her because he wanted to give her space when in fact, he was scared of her. He couldn’t even cheer her up when she needed him. How could she not have noticed this before until now, when it’s already too late?

Throwing her sappy love aside, Dabin dig into her work, wanting to forget about love. Love was foolish, a lie. She gave her all and in the end, she received the most painful experience anyone will ever go through. She wanted to rip her heart out and not feel the pain anymore but she couldn’t. Maybe somewhere deep down, there still might be a tiny percentage left that can resurface if she can find the right person to open it up for her. But for now, she put her focus on work, indulging what little she has left.

“There’s a charity even going on tonight and you’re invited. Don’t even think about ditching it this time, Dabin.” Key stared at her with knowing eyes.

“Appa, you know I don’t have time. I need to get these done,” she pointed to a stack full of papers waiting for her attention.

“I don’t care. These,” Key pointed at the stack of papers, “can be finished tomorrow. Tonight I hope to see you. Don’t even think about running away. I will find you and drag you to the charity if I have to. Plus, you don’t want to disappoint your parents, do you? After all, this is one time event of the year.” Key reminded her.

“Fine. I’ll go! Can you leave me now so I can finish these?”

“Of course my kind daughter,” Key teased before leaving the room.

Dabin sigh loudly once Key left the room.

“Damn-it,” Dabin whispered. She had asked her secretary to bring in all the paper work that wasn’t due until a month from now so that she could lie to Key, but he saw past her. Dabin didn’t hate going to charity event but this particular one, she did. It reminded her of how she met him. She wasn’t mad at the charity of the person hosting it, she was just angry at herself for not being able to let it go.

“Soo Jin,” Dabin paged her secretary.

“Yes Dabin?”

“I need a dress for tonight’s charity. Can you please get me one?”

“Right away.”

“Thank you.” Dabin lean back into her seat, closing her eyes as she dreaded the time she had to be there.

------------------------------------------

“Umma, do I have to go? I was planning on hanging out with my friends.” Byunghun whined.

“It’s only for tonight. You can postpone it for tomorrow.” His umma reasoned with him.

“But, tomorrow isn’t tonight.” Byunghun frowned.

“Don’t start with that. You are going and that’s final. I expect to see you there at 7 p.m.”

“Fine. But I’m bringing Chunji with me.”

“If that means you’ll be there, go ahead. Don’t be late. Your appa hates it when you’re late.” His umma reminded him.

“I know.” Byunghun secretly rolled his eyes behind his umma’s back.

Everyone knows Byunghyun and Mr. Lee have a tight son and father bond but when Byunghun shows up late to any meetings or events, it’s a different story. Mr. Lee was uptight with making sure to arrive on time, even his son. He would punish those that arrived late merciless. Byunghun was tired of his appa’s punishment but doesn’t seem to change his habit of arriving early.

--------------------------------------------------

Dabin couldn’t believe she was early for the charity. Key said 6:30 p.m. when the charity doesn’t even start until 7! She wanted to choke Key alive for lying to her. She couldn’t spot Key anywhere or any of her appas and her parents. Upon arrival, Dabin faked her smiles and greeted a handful of people who were there.

“How have you been dear? I haven’t seen you in a long time,” Mrs. Baek fakely express her frown.

“I’ve been well. How have you been, Mrs. Baek?” Dabin asked out of respect. Dabin could not stand Mrs. Beak and verse vice. Neither of them got on the right foot on their first meeting. Everyone knows Mrs. Baek has the biggest mouth when it comes to gossip. She tends to add her own lies to the already told lies. Although some people already know what type of person she is, Mrs. Baek hasn’t backed down yet. She’s still spreading rumors as she sees fit.

“Oh you know me, I’m doing fine.” Mrs. Baek plasters a big smile on her lip. “Do you not have a date tonight? Oh wait, you’ve been single for how many years now?” Mrs. Baek attacked.

“Why does it concern you if I’m with a date or not? As I remember, this isn’t a show-off charity but a charity to help those in need.” Dabin smiled sweetly to Mrs. Baek.

“I still see you haven’t loose that ugly attitude of yours.” Mrs. Baek spat.

“And I see you haven’t loose that conniving mouth of yours either.” Dabin shot back.

“You-” Mrs. Baek was about to raise her hand at Dabin when someone interfered, holding Mrs. Baek’s hand down.

“If I was you, I wouldn’t do such stupid action, Mrs. Baek. There are a lot of eyes here watching that will not tolerate your action. I especially won’t let you go freely if you lay a single finger on my date.” Byunghun look at Dabin with a grin. “I’m sorry I was late, dear. There was traffic that delayed my presence. I hope you’re not too upset with me…” Byunghun smirked.

Dabin couldn’t utter a word but stare in shock at the person talking. She had thought she would never encounter him again since that night he refused to leave her table.

Mrs. Baek stared between the two of them with a scoff before hurrying away in pure embarrassment. With her gone, Byunghun swiftly wrap his arm around her waist and leading her away. Dabin who still was in a state of shock just followed his lead.

“Don’t looked too shock or they won’t believe us,” Byunghun cheekily whispered to her ear.

Dabin who finally realized what was happening broke look from his hold, stomping on his foot before leaving him behind. Byunghun who was hoping from the stub chuckled loudly.

“You can run but you can’t hide,” Byunghun smirked.

Dabin didn’t say a word as she tried to hide from him. Out of all the men, it had to be him, again. The one who irritates her to death; the one she can’t seem to operate with him so close; the one who just spread a rumor that is not true. Dabin wanted to bury herself and not come out from her grave. She was embarrassed. Within seconds, everyone at the charity will hear that Dabin and that guy is an item. How she really wants to choke Key alive for forcing her to come.

Byunghun chuckles to himself quietly as he watched Dabin angrily walk away from him. Luckily he had decided to arrive early at the charity for once in his life-time. When he walked in seeing Mrs. Baek raising her hand at some poor lady, he couldn’t help but come to the rescue. What he wasn’t expecting was to see ‘her’ again. For some reason, he couldn’t help but spat out lies about them being on a date to the charity. He was thankful she didn’t say a word but stared at him wordless. Pretty soon everyone will know they’re a date for the night. He couldn’t wait.
