I'm Going Home?

Boyfriend in...Wonderland?

I can’t believe he’s doing this. I can’t believe I let him do this. I was currently draped in a velvet red hood, standing in a crowd of blood lusting courts people. This plan had to work otherwise the twins and I were doomed. They had told me Jiyeon was also in the crowd but just disguised. I saw Donghyun and Hyunseong peering down at me from the Queen’s balcony, and I gave them a small ‘ok’ sign with my hand. They nodded in response and turned their attention to the giant platform next to the blood fountain. Well, this explains why there’s a fountain of blood but it was rather disgusting. While the crowd waited in apt excitement my mind wondered to a few minutes before in the Queen’s bedroom where the plan was created.

-Ten Minutes Ago-

“You know Jiyeon, right? Well, what if there was another person who looked exactly like you?” Minwoo said mysteriously. Oh god no, he couldn’t be thinking what I’m thinking. Could he?

“You’re not going to…” I trailed off when I saw everyone smirk. No way.

“I’ve got to get some spotlight too you know.” Minwoo said while standing triumphantly. No way was I going to let him do that!

“You can’t it’s too risky! I won’t let you!” I yelled while clutching at his jacket. His eyes softened and he smiled, not a grin or a smirk, but a genuine smile.

“He’ll be fine. He’s smarter than he looks.” This time Hyuseong spoke up. He had a hard look on his face that made me really believe he would be okay. I had to.

“Alright. But be careful.”

-Present-

Trumpets sounded and a row of guards lumbered into the gardens, holding chains in their hands. Youngmin, Kwangmin and “I” shuffled in behind the guards and lined up next to the platform stairs. The Queen had appeared on the platform and was staring intensely at the three.

“Now, for the fun to begin.” She announced with raised arms and the crowd erupted with cheers. God these people were animals. The first guard unlinked “me” from the long chain connecting to the twins and shoved me up the stairs. I must say even I thought it were a complete replica of me; which in a sense it was. My heart was galloping so fast it began to hurt. The time had come. The guard shoved me to the wooden block and kicked the backs of my knees to make me fall forward, my head resting on the block.

The crowd was deadly silent as the masked man stepped up with the massive axe by his side. The sun was setting which cast a red glow over everything and shadows loomed everywhere. The man raised his axe with a grunt and I knew it would come down with a deadly force. Time seemed to stop at that moment and I was sure my heartbeat could be heard by the surrounding people. The man weaved the axe down at lightening speed but I snapped my eyes shut before I could see the result. A loud ‘thunk’ echoed through the garden and I jumped at the loud noise. Everything was silent.

“Sorry to ruin your fun, but I’m afraid it’s our party.” That same mischievous voice resonated through the air and everyone looked up at the astonishing sight.

Minwoo was casually lounging in the air with his Cheshire grin spread wide on his face. The crowd exploded in a chorus of jeers and shouts, obviously angered at being played. I on the other hand jumped around in relief and smiled so wide I though my cheeks would split. The masked man and guards were dumfounded which gave the twins a chance to attack. They kicked the guards in the head and they went tumbling to the ground heavily. Kwangmin bent over and retrieved the keys from one of the guard’s belts before unlocking the shackled that bound them. I was so overjoyed that I ran onto the platform and nearly crash tackled the two but a shrill voice stopped me before I could touch them.
“What is going on?! You, chop their heads off now!” The Queen screeched at the masked man and he finally snapped out of his daze. He righted the axe again and advanced on us slowly, the crowd leaning forward in anticipation. ‘No, we were so close!’  It was too unfair.

He raised his axe again but tumbled over when he was struck in the head by something. We all watched as he hit the ground and caused the platform to shake from his weight. I looked up to meet eyes with someone I least expected to.

“Hello beautiful.” Jeongmin said smirk. Oh for god’s sake! He’s back! I just stared before slapping him square in the face. He looked dumbstruck and I grew angry.

“That’s for kissing me you ert!” I yelled at him and watched as he put a hand up to his bright red cheek.

“Wait, he kissed you?!” The twins, Minwoo and Donghyun yelled loudly at the same time. Oh right, there were other people here.

“Enough foolishness! I’ll do it myself.” The Queen interrupted our mini drama and pulled a large knife out from her dress. She approached us quickly and swung the knife at me, giving me a light cut on my cheek.

“Like hell you will!” A roaring voice reverberated off the brick walls and I saw Donghyun pull out a sword from the sheath he was wearing. ‘Since when did he have a sword?!’  The Queen spun around and glared at Donghyun menacingly.
“Don’t do this, you’ll regret it! After I took care of you all these years you actually have the nerve to point a sword at me?!” She screeched before throwing the knife in his direction. It flew through the air and would have hit him straight in the heart had he not moved so quickly. The next part was lightening fast; Donghyun pulled back his arm and hurled the sword at the Queen. I didn’t see the rest because Youngmin had pulled me backwards and covered my eyes, but I could still hear the sword stab into her skin and her gurgled scream. I felt her blood splatter onto me.

All I could hear were her bubbling screams that soon fell quiet as she fell to the floor heavily. The thump her body made against the wood was the most disgusting sound I had ever heard. The crowd didn’t move and they said nothing as everyone looked astounded. The Queen was dead, literally dead before their eyes. Youngmin removed his hand from my eyes and I met with the sight of Minwoo and Jeongmin pushing her body over the edge of the platform. And into the flowers. The crowd gasped in horror when they heard the flowers gnashing their jaws and I had to cover my ears at the sound of her skin ripping. This whole situation was horrible; but she was just as bad, right?

“She’s dead. I’m taking over now!” Donghyun shouted darkly from the balcony. ‘But how can Donghyun be the King? He’s not related or anything. Is he?’  I looked out at the sea of people and saw they were looking at each other with unsure expressions. They didn’t want him as King.

“The order of ruling goes by age. As the previous has died, he is the new King.” Hyunseong spoke very matter of factly to the people and they had no choice but to accept it.

“Things are going to change around here. Firstly, no more beheadings.” Donghyun pointed to the twins and I with a grin. The plan had worked…sort of.

“Good job everyone! Though I must say without me you’d probably be dead.” Jeongmin was staring wistfully into the sky while blatantly praising himself.

“No, without Donghyun we’d all be dead. Including you.” Kwangmin whacked him on the back of the head before bowing exaggeratedly to Donghyun. “So, is it time we send Taekyung home?” Donghyun just smiled and waved a hand, signalling us to follow. As we stepped off the platform the crowd parted and they shot glares at us. I kept my eyes straight ahead as we entered through the massive black doors.

Donghyun and Hyuseong stood atop a large marble staircase. I couldn’t help but think how they suited the image so well. Jiyeon had appeared and was holding onto Hyunseong’s arm while she smiled brightly at me. ‘I’ve got to ask her what the whole thing between her and Hyunseong is.’  It had been bugging me the whole time I was here. All eight of us walked down the long hallway and took a stone staircase down to what I thought were the stone cells I had been thrown in. A single wooden door stood at the end of the stairs. It was very old and the wood splintered so much I thought it would snap at the flick of a finger. Donghyun turned the rusted doorknob and the door swung open gently and what was on the other side was surprising.

On a small wrought iron table in the centre of a stone room was a single mushroom. It was about the size of my palm and was an electric blue on one side, while silvery white on the other. So this was that mushroom that would take me home?

“Here it is.” Jeongmin said while throwing it back and forth between him and Minwoo.

“Don’t throw it around. You’ll rot it.” Donghyun snatched the mushroom from Jeongmin and handed it to me. For a small mushroom it was pretty heavy, like it was filled with water. I looked at for a moment before looking back up at Donghyun, drawing a blank at what I was meant to do with it.

“You have to eat the white side.” Wait, eat it?!

“I’m not eating some weirdly coloured mushroom that’s been in some stuffy room for god knows how long!” I held the mushroom away from me in my hand. The twins laughed and Hyunseong had to put a hand over his mouth to stop from bursting out in a fit of laughter. Donghyun chuckled and pushed my hand back towards me.

“Do you want to go home or not?” That’s a good question. I had made so many friends here so I didn’t want to leave them. But I did miss my family, even if they are annoying and want me to marry some jerk.

“Will I be able to come back?” I asked quietly while tears welled up in my eyes.

“Only if you think you can.” Donghyun whispered while everyone gathered around. It must have looked so cliché to an onlooker but it didn’t matter. I went to the twins first and gave them both a hug.

“You make sure you come back, yeah?” Youngmin said while giving me another infectious smile.
“You only want her to come back so you can-” Kwangmin was cut off by a very red faced Youngmin slapping a hand over his mouth. I’d miss those two. Jeongmin was next but I just extended my hand to shake. No way was I getting near him again.

“You know, that slap really hurt. I didn’t think you’d be so hung up on it.” He winked while I gave him ‘the’ look. But it didn’t last long because I felt my cover crack and a smile surfaced.

“I hate to admit it, but I’ll miss you too.” I said smartly before giving him a punch on the arm. I hugged Jiyeon tightly and shook Hyunseong’s hand. Oh yeah, I hadn’t introduced myself.

“I don’t think we’ve been properly introduced. I’m Taekyung.” I smiled while he shook my hand. His rabbit ears still made no sense to me but they were cute so it didn’t matter.

“Hyunseong. Sorry about knocking you over before.” He smiled sheepishly. I shook my head and smiled again before turning back to Jiywon and leaning over to whispee rin her ear.
“So, what’s the deal with you and Hunseong, huh?” I asked mischievously. She blushed a light pink and I gave her a wink. “Oh! So that’s it!” she blushed even darker and everyone laughed at the two. I hope it all goes well. I gave Minwoo a bear hug and earned a large grin from him.
“Thank you so much. You risked your life for me.” God that sounded bad.

“Don’t sound so dramatic. It was to help everyone including you.” He chuckled and ruffled my hair. If only I could have a friend like him back home. Donghyun was last. I gave him a gentle hug and was even brave enough to give him a peck on the cheek. I heard Youngmin grumbling from behind me.

“Come on, it’s time you went home.” Donghyun patted my arm and I just nodded. If I spoke now, all my tears would come rushing out.

I took a step back from the group and gave a small wave. They all waved back and the twins and Minwoo made heart signs with their arms. They’d all be fine together. I took a bite from the white side of the mushroom. A strong sour taste filled my mouth like eating a whole lemon in one go but I soon felt fatigued, like the whole journey had finally caught up to me. The room spun and I out.

“Taekyung! Wake up!” Someone was shaking me roughly and I opened my heavy eyes to see Hyungsoo bent over next to me. Oh great, I have to deal with him now. I sat up and gave him a glare. Wait, Hyungsoo? I looked around and saw I was in the hedge maze. Had that whole thing just been a dream?
“Come on, your mother is worried about you.” Hyungsoo tried to lift me up but I snatched my arm from him and stood up myself. I marched from the maze to see the party still in full swing. The dance floor was still covered in people and my mother was talking with some other women. I really was home. I walked over to the bench where my sister sat with her hands resting on her large stomach.

“There you are! Hyungsoo was looking all over for you. Where on earth have you been?” Kyumi asked with a raised voice. I looked over towards the rose bushes where I had seen the rabbit boy, and saw seven familiar heads pop up from behind them. I cracked a smile and turned back to Kyumi.

“That’s a good question…”
