Recipe 004 - Buffet
I Loved You on a Sunday Afternoon
It took a few days before the gossip and teasing died down. Shin yeong really felt welcomed now. Her
relationship with Kyungsoo was still awkward even though he had finally accepted her as the chef of the house.
Today, she would be alone though. EXO was attending a concert in Jeju, but they would be home at midnight.
They also wanted to eat when they come home.
It felt weird without Kyungsoo being there to watch her every move. It also felt weird that when he was there, he
no longer stared at her with hatred in his eyes. It was good to have less drama in her life, but she missed the
suspense and mystery of scary and cold Kyungsoo. Now, he was just awkward Kyungsoo.
She had arrived at their dorm with a few grocery bags in both hand. A full course was to be prepared because she
knew how hungry they would be. They would savage anything that was left out. Their plates would be clean.
Nothing was ever leftover. Shin yeong’s eyes wandered around the empty dorm before setting out to prep for the
large course. The manager had told her to prepare double the servings of what she was making. She didn’t exactly
know why, but she thought that there was going to be other staff joining them. She decided not to think about the
servings any further and actually began to cook the meal. Today, she would bring out all her skills. Buffet it is! she
thought to herself. Fresh broccoli beef, baked salmon, coconut shrimp, plain or fried rice, chow mein, and Korean
style beef. Her eyes formed crescent moons as she imagined Kyungsoo’s many possible reactions. She anticipated his
reaction the most.
The broccoli was washed and cut into smaller pieces. The beef that was needed for two dishes was rinsed, drained,
and sliced thinly for the broccoli and Korean style beef. The medium-sized shrimps were beheaded, removed of the
tails, and slit in the back to remove the dirt inside. Noodles for the chow mein were put on the stove with some
water to boil. Rice was prepped by washing two times and setting it into the rice cooker. Prep work ended four
hours before EXO-K was to come home. Shin yeong began diligently sauteing the broccoli and beef. She added hoisin
sauce and other flavorings. The salmon was carefully seasoned and placed onto a baking sheet to be cooked in the
oven. In a pan next to the broccoli, the coconut shrimp was coming along very well. Shin yeong scooped out some
rice into a bowl to start up the fried rice. She cooked the chopped vegetables and sausage before adding in the rice.
The Korean style beef was marinating in the refrigerator. It would be grilled right in front of the boys on a small grill.
Time passed quickly, and Shin yeong finished before midnight. She had plated everything and had taken out a few
plates and utensils. The dining table was set. She plopped herself onto the living room couch to wait for them. Her
arms ached, but she was definitely satisfied. Her eyes began to droop slightly, and she was soon asleep. Her head
rested on the armrest, and her legs were curled up. The door swung open silently and six unfamiliar male piled in one
by one. Their confused expressions stayed on their faces as six more piled in. EXO-M was back, and they were
confused to find a girl in the dorms of their group mates.
“So is she a stalker fan or something?” Tao blurted out. Kyungsoo who was dragging some luggage into the room
stopped in his track and went over to check on Shin yeong. Kai who was behind him kindly explained the situation.
“Kyungsoo hyung’s got a wife. They love each other very much, and she does whatever he wants. She’s like a god to
him. They plan to have kids..” Kai received a smack in the head from Suho. His instant response was to rub his head.
“Hey! I’m telling the truth here.”
“I still don’t get it.” Tao questioned again. He usually never asked questions, but he really wanted to know.
“Yeah, is there something we should know here...” Luhan whispered.
Kyungsoo, who had been staring at Shin yeong for quite some time now, decided to wake her up. “Shin yeong ssi,
wake up.”
“We hired a chef because Kyungsoo hurt his wrist and couldn’t cook.” Suho explained.
“Kyungsoo hyung has had some troubles with her. They are the "newlyweds" of this building. Or so the ahjumma
living next door says.” Sehun exclaimed after closing the door behind him.
Shin yeong slowly opened her eyes to find Kyungsoo sitting before her. She rubbed her eyes quickly and sat up.
Kyungsoo was smiling at her. She gave him a small smile before directing her attention to the eleven standing before
her.
“Shin yeong ssi, I’m sure you are very surprised. The six unfamiliar people standing before you are our group mates.
They belong to EXO-M. This is Kris, Luhan, Xiumin, Tao, Chen, and Lay.”
So this is why the manager wanted her to double the servings. She smiled brightly at them before sending her
greetings. “I’m sorry you had to meet me like this. I was so tired from preparing the meal.”
Before EXO-M could say anything, Kyungsoo spoke, “No need to be sorry. You must have worked so hard.” He passed
her another smile and was given one back. EXO-M looked at them with teasing eyes. They had a new target now.
“Yah Kyungsoo, I didn’t know you cared this much about someone,” Luhan teased. Chen and Lay snickered at his
comment.
Xiumin decided to join in on the fun. “You mind if I borrow your girl sometime so she could make me food? I promise
I won’t do anything.”
“We’ll see.” Kyungsoo retorted. Ooh’s and Aah’s filled the room as the eleven began their teasing fest.
The midnight dinner ended with everyone on a full stomach. After clearing the dishes and wiping down the kitchen,
Shin yeong was ready to head home.
“Let me walk you to the train station,” Kyungsoo mumbled. He didn’t exactly know how to say it to her. He didn’t
know what her response would be, and it would be embarrassing if she said no.
“That would be nice,” she replied. Howls and “whoop whoop” filled the living room as the boys laughed at the two.
She was blushing and so was he. Gosh they are embarrassing, he thought to himself. Nonetheless, they both headed
out the door and made their way to the station. It was a little past one AM, but the streets were still filled with
people, mostly drunkards and clubbers. After arriving at the front of the stairway to the station, Shin yeong turned
around, stopping Kyungsoo suddenly.
“Thanks...for walking me here,” she said. She was glad he offered to accompany her to the station. She was glad he
liked the dinner. She was glad about many things right now.
“No problem. I can’t let a pretty girl like you walk alone at night. I guess I’ll be heading back now.” With a wave and
a big smile, he started heading back the way he came.
Shin yeong stared at his figure until he was out of sight. Wait, did he just call me pretty? Bump Bump. Her cheeks
were flushed red and her heart began to beat faster. She didn’t know why she felt this way. Maybe it’s because he’s
never complimented me before. All the other members have told me that I’m pretty. It must be that it’s weird to
hear it from him. Yeah, that’s it. With a growing thought in her head, she skipped down the stairs to the platform.
The call came so suddenly. Who could be calling her at this time of the day? It was six and also her day off. It better
not be Eun Ji calling to ask for money. “Hello?”
A few coughs were heard from the other line before someone cleared their throat to speak. “Shin yeong ssi? Is that
you?”
“D.O. ssi? Oh my gosh, are you sick?” Shin yeong shot up straight from her bed.
“I know today’s your day off, but my wrist hurts and.........I’m hungry.” Kyungsoo’s voice was nasally, and he
sounded awful.
Shin yeong chuckled softly before replying, “Wait for me. I’m heading over there right now.”
Update before I go to bed. :D So I guess you know what to anticipate for the next chapter. Hehehe. I watch way too much Food Network., but that's good right? It helps me write with so much detail. I've been watching that channel since I was seven.
