Recipe 001 - Fried Chicken
I Loved You on a Sunday Afternoon
The members had left him. They really left him all alone. Oh but he wasn’t alone according to them. He was
“accompanied” by the new chef at home. Kyungsoo was ordered to rest and never once do anything involved
with the kitchen. He was irritated, seeing the new chef make herself feel at home in his kitchen. He stared at
her back for a long time. He would have been burning holes through her back if he had laser eyes. Shin yeong
turned around and smiled at him. His eyes rolled and landed back on his magazine. She couldn’t register as to
why he was so annoyed with her. They have only met for thirty minutes, and he’s already out to kill her.
Shin yeong began looking around the pantry of the house. For six men who were living in one house, the pantry was
pretty stocked. Everything from canned foods to uncooked pasta were sorted in alphabetical order, by color, and
type of food. She was at awe. Even her own kitchen wasn’t this organized. She in the beauty of the kitchen
itself and smiled. It hadn’t been long since she had graduated from culinary school. Shin yeong wanted to explore the
world after graduating, but due to financial problems, she had to postpone her plans. It was a coincidence that she
stumbled upon an ad in the newspaper that was hiring a cook. Finally settling on the idea of a job, she had seeked
out the owner of the job and was hired after a few simple tests. Even though she wasn’t following her dreams yet,
she had the desire to make people happy when eating her food. For now, she was contented with working as a cook
for a couple of guys. Famous ones to be exact.
Kyungsoo glanced up from his page and followed Shin yeong with his eyes while she got the ingredients for today’s
lunch. He was furious with the way she just grabbed items off the shelf without remember where the item was. He
growled lowly and narrowed his eyes. Shin yeong began to prep for lunch. She knew that only one member who was
going to be home for lunch and it was the guy sitting on the couch burning holes into her head. Eyeing the apron
hanging on the hook, she reached for it and put the apron on. It was a dark blue with the words “D.O. your best
when it comes to cooking”. She began to lay out the ingredients. In a dish, she took two eggs and began beating
them with a whisk. In another, she poured some self-rising flour out. Simple fried chicken. As she racked the fridge
for some chicken, she heard a grunt nearby. Her head popped out to see who it was and found Mr. Grumpy staring
attentively at her dishes. He scoffed and left to go back to his seat. Shin yeong felt a slight smile on her face and
went back to searching for the chicken. As soon as she found it, her face lit up. She thoroughly washed the chicken
and began chopping it into medium-sized pieces. Lightly coating them with the egg and then rubbing flour all over
the chicken. She fried the chicken until they were golden brown on the outside. Setting them on a dish with paper
towels on top to dry, she began setting out to make the side dishes. Pretty soon, she had set up the table for a meal
of one. Kyungsoo had fallen asleep on the couch by now.
“Excuse me...umm...I made lunch, and I was wondering if you were going to eat. The food will get cold if you wait
any longer.” Shin yeong stood by the edge of the couch, scared to approach the male any further. His eyes slowly
opened and he groaned. It wasn’t a dream. She was definitely still here. Kyungsoo sat up and made his way over to
the table. He ate in silence as Shin yeong watched him from nearby. When he was finished, he neither
complimented or criticized her. Just silently stood up and shuffled to his room. She stared at the door of the room
he had entered before busying herself with the dishes. It wasn’t long before it was time to make dinner for them.
Shin yeong felt lonely in this cold house. Sure it was nicely decorated, but the feeling that she felt was horrible. She
didn’t know the exact reason either. She couldn’t help but wonder why the cold male in the room was not as warm
as the others. Was it because of his injury? She could not tell. She heaved a sigh. It wasn’t like she expected her
bosses to be nice to her.
EXO’s dinner was composed of bibimbap along with a few side dishes such as kimchi and steam vegetables. Her head
popped out from behind the wall blocking the living room from the kitchen as one by one all five males piled into
the living room. They landed on top of each other and let out groans. Shin Yeong chuckled at the sight. She cleared
and the five shoot their heads toward her.
“Dinner is ready.” Excited, they all make a dash for the table. Kai sniffed the air a couple of times before he smiled.
“Wow, I never expected to come home to this.”
Chanyeol chuckled and sat down at his usual seat. Suho went down Kyungsoo’s room to check in on him. Kyungsoo,
who had been enjoying his evening nap, stumbled out of bed and glared at Suho. “I hope your happy about letting
this girl take over. Because I’m not.” He whispered at the leader before dragging himself to the table. Everyone was
seated now. Each one of them began to dig in, all except Kyungsoo. He just stared at the bowl before him before
sighing and picking up his spoon.
As dinner ended, Shin yeong began to wash the dished before heading home. She bid the guys goodbye and made
her way to the bus stop. It was a long day. She just wanted to go home and sleep. She began to wonder about the
cold man from the dorm. How his expressions scared her. She couldn’t help but think of the many reasons for his
coldness. Was he the bad-boy type? No, he didn’t seem like it. The heartbroken? No, his glares were directed
towards her like daggers. Shin yeong shook her head. She would try to find out the reason later. For now, she
couldn’t wait to fall onto her bed.
