I took a deep breath saka ibinaba ang phone at nilagay sa loob ng bag ko.

Nakatayo lang naman ako sa tabi ng bar, tahimik na pinagmamasdan yung mga tao sa paligid ng napakalaking lugar na 'to. Well, mayaman din naman kasi si Giselle, so hindi na rin naman ako nagulat.

Palipat-lipat ang tingin ko mula sa balcony kung saan nakikisalamuha si Giselle sa mga guests niya, pagkatapos ay sa crowded space sa harap ko.

Old acquaintances and guests whose name I didn't know mindlessly brushed past me, while some would stop and just stare at me as if contemplating whether to approach me or let me be. Thankfully, they chose the former. 

Although I wasn't really that intimidating, the vacant expression on my face that would sometimes contort into a frown seemed to be enough to shoo people away. 

It's not like I didn't want to interact with people or make new friends, it was just that… Most people here– especially yung mga sobrang "successful" na raw sa buhay nila—were quite pretentious. They'd act as if they were actually interested and listening to what you were saying, when in reality, wala rin naman silang pake.

Kung sino sino lang naman kasi ang ininvite ni Giselle for her birthday kaya kasama rin yung mga classmates niya from high school na puro pagyayabang lang naman ang alam.

Anyway,

I was used to it. I already knew what to do and say if someone ever tries to approach me.

I just wished that I didn't have to.

“Hi!” I greeted back, my eyebrows lifting up expectantly. “Uhm, can I help you?”

Winter chuckled and shook her head as a response. “No.”

Okay… so ano na? Bakit ka nandito? Tatayo ka lang diyan? Palibhasa kasi, alam na alam mo kung paano ako—joke.

Like I said, I already moved on. Nung college pa.

“I just wanna ask if I have met you before? You seem familiar.”

Oh. 

So hindi siya sure kung natatandaan niya ba ako o hindi.

Wow, ha? Masyado niya namang pinapahalata na wala siyang pake sakin noon!

“You don't know me?”

“I mean, I'd like to?”

I hummed in acknowledgment and also to feign nonchalance. “Right. Well, my name is Karina.”

“Oh!” she exclaimed as if a realization just hit her. “Nakita kita sa DepEd TV dati! You're that teacher girl who likes to teach!”

. She was talking about dun sa one time na kinuha ako ng principal namin to make an appearance sa TV to promote our school kasi maganda raw ako!

I bit her lip to stop myself from snorting and laughing at the surprised look on her face, then folded my arms and nodded. “Yep. Pretty sure that's what teachers usually do.”

Pero hindi niya ba talaga ako naalala!?

Five years lang naman ang nakalipas? 

Nakakainis ka Winter Kim!

“Interesting.” 

“Is it, really?” I wondered. Hampasin kita dyan eh.

“Yeah, really.” Winter shrugged then craned her neck to look around. “Can I buy you a drink?”

“Depends.” 

“On what?”

“Will you tell me your name?”

Sige, two can play that game.

She looked genuinely shocked by that question.

“You don't know who I am?”

Ang yabang na, ha? Buti nalang talaga maganda siya!

“Should I?” I smirked teasingly. 

“I'm Winter—most people would go with Win, though.” Winter laughed lightly and gestured for me to sit on the stool by the bar.

“Kaya pala ang lamig,” I murmured. Pero mahina lang naman ang boses ko at sure ako na hindi niya maririnig.

Apparently, mali ako ng akala.

“That's funny,” But Winter suddenly laughed. Kasali ka ba? Hindi mo nga ako naalala!

Pero in fairness, ito ata yung first time na may tumawa sa Winter Ang Cold Cold Mo jokes ko because it was funny, and not because it was lame!

Lagi kasi akong inookray nila Giselle and Yeji nung college tuwing gumagawa ako ng jokes about Winter's name and her cold appearance.

I gave myself a pat on the back for making Winter laugh.

“So, Winter.” I started, my gaze unconsciously following Winter as she sat next to me. Pareho na kaming nakaupo sa stool ng bar ngayon. “What do you do?”

Winter shook her head and smiled charmingly at me. “I take videos of myself and then I post it,”

Ha… hanudaw!?

What kind of videos?! Anong nangyari sa'yo, Winter Kim! No offense sa mga ganun talaga ang piniling profession, ha… pero si Winter?! Bakit?! Anong reason?

“Not those kinds of videos, Karina.” she cleared out at tawang tawa sa itsura ko.

Napansin niya ata yung stressed look ko nung sinabi niya yun.

Hindi ko pa rin gets!

“I'm a vlogger.”

Ah. 

Shet, okay. Yun lang naman pala. Edi sana yun nalang ang sinabi niya, 'di ba!? Akala ko pa kung anong klaseng videos ang pinopost niya!

“You still space out a lot, alam mo ba 'yun?” she blurted out.

Lumaki bigla ang mga mata ko when a realization finally hit me.

“So you do remember me!”

“Syempre naman. I think anyone would remember someone like you. I was just messing with you kanina, pero nakisakay ka rin naman.” malawak na ang ngiti niya ngayon. I've never seen her smile like this kahit dati so expected naman na surprised talaga ako.
