Yeo-u ( Yō - wü )

For those not familiar of the term, it stands for Fox. In western culture, a fox is often described as sly or cunning, this can be seen in its Disney depiction of Nick Wilde or even their adaptation of Robin Hood.

However in Korean culture, when the term is used for a young male/female, it refers to someone who is extremely talented at flirting. Someone who specializes in causing someone else to misunderstand and develop feelings, even if they have to interest in actually dating said person.

They are always very attentive towards their target, and have an acute understanding of how to cater towards another's needs.

On the other side of the spectrum lives the famous gom or bear.

Bears are generally very innocent and naive, they cannot hide their feelings and because of that are often seen as unattractive due to their inability to play the push-pull game.

Most don't fit into one box, and ride the line between both species or neither.

But because of these cultural labels, many are placed on a spectrum between the two.

"Goodnight Dohyun sunbae."

There was something calculated about this line:

The way she responded without so much as  reciprocating his embrace.

The way she effortlessly mixed honorifics with a slightly endearing tone. Fox.

It had been 3 days now. 3 long days since that night.

It was to be expected, Friday through Sunday, she returned to her trainee life.

Meanwhile he had spent each of the three nights staring up at his ceiling wondering what had led him to that point.

If he was being honest, the term fox wasn't even him trying to demean her.

After all, it was his own fault for completely falling into the charms of Song Minji.

It was his fault for daring to cross over into a world he so clearly didn't belong.

There she was, walking along the 3rd year hallway with two of her friends, evidently not here for him.

"Seungwon-ie!" The one at the center— Kim Jiwon— called towards the popular student representative.

Seungwon smirked as soon as he noticed them.

"Call me that again and I'm going to have to write you up for lowering honorifics towards a sunbae." He joked back, before heading towards them.

Minji and her friends greeted him, and began to converse over something.

Dohyun decided then he wasn't going to eavesdrop.

However, even without listening seeing the apparent smile on her face, told him everything he needed to know. She was lying when she said she wasn't as excited towards Jeong Seungwon anymore.

He was about to turn to leave when something unexpected happened.

"Lee Dohyun sunbae-nim." It was a female voice but the pitch wasn't that of Minji.

"That's right, that's you!" It was the other girl with Jiwon and Minji. It wasn't intentional, he just didn't know her name.

Rushing over to him was a pretty girl of shorter stature, with unbelievably large round eyes.

"You're the esports sunbae." She pointed rather rudely at him, turning back to her friends.

What followed was a look of total astonishment on Seungwon and Minji's faces.

Before he knew it, she had grabbed his arm and was dragging him to join the others.

"Can't we bring him too? He's good-looking, he'll blend right in with the crowd." She pleaded towards her friends, although what she was referring to was still completely unknown to him.

"I agree, I've never met someone so mysterious, I bet you'd be so fun. Don't you think so?" Jiwon chimed in.

"Hi sunbae." Minji greeted, immediately signaling to keep their odd friendship a secret.

It took a second, for Dohyun to gather who the other girls were asking for permission, but the heavy arm that fell on his shoulder made him realize.

"Of course. I'm sure Inhyuk won't mind." Seungwon replied in a fake but charming voice.

"What do you say? Join us tomorrow night? We're holding a birthday party for Seungwon at Inhyuk's place and you should come." Jiwon finally explained what was going on.

Dohyun focused on Minji, she was clearly uncomfortable by this sudden turn of events.

That's when a dark thought sunk in. Was she embarrassed by him?

Was he some shameful secret that she wanted to keep hidden from her real friends?

"Come on, as former teammates and brothers on the rift*, shouldn't you be there to support me?" Seungwon seemed rather persistent, which was strange given his cold attitude towards him since the event.

(Summoner's Rift is the map from LoL)

"Minji-ah, can't you persuade him? You're the one who got him to do the festival after all." Jiwon physically ushered her forward.

"Um sunbae, if you're not busy... it might be great if you join us." Minji spoke politely her eyes darting around, unable to meet him.

"Well, I guess I have no other choice then." Dohyun answered.

He felt slightly confident about his response, when he noticed it. There was a large smirk on Seungwon's face, one that didn't seem to be targeted towards him.

It would be too far to label it as sinister, especially given the model student image. But it certainly didn't seem innocent.

Dancing, drinking and drugs. Exactly the type of atmosphere she shouldn't be for the sake of her debuting chances.

Well this certainly wasn't your standard birthday party. What normal birthday party took place at the penthouse of one of Seoul's tallest buildings.

Between the confines of these four almost entirely glass walls, was 40 maybe 50 attractive high school and college students all living it up like they were in a club.

Loud music and blue strobe lights filled the massive interior. The perfume of vodka, champagne, and mint flavored nicotine blending perfectly together to cater to each sense.

Honestly the term party didn't really seem fitting, more specifically, a large gathering of the young socialites of Korea's 1%.

"Are you having fun?"

Then there was him too. The man of the hour. The crush of probably half the girls there, the other half already long admitted that he was out of their league.

Handsome from head to toe, somehow the usually elite looking boy blended perfectly in this setting. After all wasn't that his appeal? The innate ability to be both model student and popular heart-throb simultaneously.

A simple denim jacket, a plain fitted white t-shirt, dark slacks, and a sterling silver chain. It was the simplicity of his outfit that further accentuated his visual charm.

Jeong Seungwon.

"I don't know, I've never really been to a party like this before." Minji replied, slightly overwhelmed by the scene.

"Really?" Flashing a chic smirk, Seungwon shook his head in disbelief. "Wow, I'm honored to be present at Song Minji's first party then."

"Here I was thinking it'd be all cake and candles."

"Who says there isn't? Knowing Inhyuk he probably got a pretty big one." Seungwon commented.

"Ahhh, really? I have high expectations now." Minji chuckled, wondering how grand the cake would be.

"What?" He questioned, leaning his head smoothly for her to whisper towards his ear.

Minji wondered if it was a calculated move, it was so smoothly positioned for skinship to come from it.

"Can I get you a drink? I'd be happy to be there to see Song Minji's first drink too."

"Get in line, tickets are sold out for that." She joked, before a slight glance towards the entrance yielded someone she had been looking for.

Or at least she thought it was him.

"Hey, have a little fun, you look so uptight right now." Seungwon regained her attention by lifting her forearms within his large athlete hands, shaking them up and down to imitate dancing.

"What are you doing?" She found herself giggling as he began moving her arms to the beat like a puppeteer.

"I've seen you sing, but now that I think about it I don't think I've ever seen you dance. Are the tickets sold out to watch that?" He was grinning, his playful but charming smile that could just draw you in.

Smiling, Minji decided to play his little game. With the strobe lights flashing around them, she began to slowly sway her body slightly to the music.

Not quite choreography, but the ability to split notes with her movements, she knew it was a talent only experienced dancers could flaunt.

"I didn't know club dancing could look so professional." He complimented. "Or maybe you just look so good..."

Either the music intensified at that moment, or his voice trailed off, because Minji could see his eyes linger towards her outfit.

Dressing up for tonight, well had been its own adventure in itself. Several times, she had asked Jiwon what to wear, and when she was unsatisfied by her response. Minji settled on cropped shirring blouse that exposed her shoulders, paired with a matching pleated miniskirt.

Considering his tall height and athletic broad shoulders, he somehow didn't look at all clunky like most did as he shifted his body from side to side along with her.

"Oh my god you're such a terrible dancer Seungwon-ie. Stick to sports." Jiwon suddenly interrupted, squeezing herself between the two.

"Ya, didn't I say you'd be in trouble if I caught you lowering honorifics again?" He accused with feigned anger, pushing his hand playfully against Jiwon's shoulder.

To escape, she draped her arm around Minji's shoulder, as she began to flash a flirtatious pout.

It was just a reminder, to not over-read into Seungwon's possible advances. He was just like this with everyone.

"Goodness, Minji-ah, you look so pretty right now." Jiwon expressed, complimenting her outfit, before flashing an expectant expression.

"You look so good too unnie." Minji praised back, wondering what might happen if she failed reciprocate.

"Let's go get a drink Minji-ah. Inhyuk's friend is a bartender and he's ing hot too." Kyungjin suddenly appeared to her other side.

And like that, Minji was swept away from him into the crowd.

Minji wasn't sure how long she followed Jiwon around meeting upper class young people ranging from schools all around Seoul.

It was rather impressive just how large her web of contacts spread, although based on the whispered descriptions she gave after meeting them, most were through Cha Inhyuk.

Then, suddenly a loud ringing echoed through the building, a literal silver spoon clanging against an expensive champagne glass. In the center of the large living space was Inhyuk, standing on top of the in-house bar/island.

"Attention everyone! Ya you over there, shut the up." He called with his usual arrogant smirk.

The room finally grew silent save a few squeals from female guests.

"I just wanted to thank everyone for coming. And most importantly, to my teammate and friend Jeong Seungwon, Happy ing birthday you bastard!"

There was a loud chorus of cheers, as well as a few loud screeches that could've been confessions of love but through the background EDM was basically indecipherable.

"Anyways as usual enjoy yourselves and don't be an , I'm talking to you Jiho!"

There was an eruption of laughter from several guys, most likely some inside joke she didn't know.

Minji stared through the mostly stagnant crowd, taking the opportunity to search for Dohyun sunbae. She wondered if he would've already left, after all this was far from the type of place she expected him to be at.

"I'll be right back." She whispered into Jiwon's ear.

She somehow navigated through the crowd of people, squeezing herself past person after person. It turned out he was on the complete other side of the massive penthouse.

She had to ignore several flirting attempts and cover her nose past the smokers corner before she actually located him.

He wasn't alone as she might've expected, instead; he was with a group of guys and girls who looked to be college students.

As she approached them, she noticed the reason all of their heads were ducked forward. Someone was holding a phone in the center of the group.

"Dohyun sunbae." She grabbed his attention, tapping him lightly on the shoulder.

He almost lept up in surprise at her sudden interruption.

"Oh Minji-ssi, you remember Kim Soyeon right?" Dohyun inquired.

"Of course." She slowly leaned into the huddle and realized it was that sunbae who was on the phone, on a video call.

"OH MY GOD Minji-ah!" Came a somewhat muffled voice over the phone's speaker.

Remembering how friendly she was to her, Minji smiled. "Why aren't you here unnie?"

"Oh, I have too much homework... otherwise I would've come."

"Ayy, that's cause noona is so busy drinking. She probably leaves her homework last minute." Dohyun joked.

"OH my god that's so right. I've never seen anyone drink as much as her." Another girl remarked towards Dohyun holding her hand up for a high-five.

Minji flinched, at the somewhat suspicious eyeing the girl did towards him, before quickly attaching herself to him.

Maybe it was the glasses of champagne she had downed with Jiwon, but it felt so natural to cup his arm with her hands.

Marking her territory against the approaching predators.

"Hey, that's not even my fault, I would've known the student council in college meets solely at bars for meetings I never would've signed up for it."  Thankfully Soyeon's controversial statement stole everyone's attention.

They began to argue again, those who seemed to be Soyeon's college friends and her, leaving her an opening to naturally drift away from the small group, taking him with her.

"So this is where you've been?" Minji inquired, the two now walking side by side around the large house.

"Here and there, someone recognized me from when they came with Soyeon noona to the Happy Gamer and I just sort of got into their conversation." He explained.

"Ahh. Nice." She realized she was wrong to assume he'd be in some corner staring at his phone.

"What? Did you think I'd be hiding in a corner staring at my phone?" He easily read her mind.

Minji smirked as she shook her head. "How could I? It's not like you hate social interactions."

"I usually do. But because of this one annoying hoobae, I somehow find myself being more open to new experiences these days."

She scoffed in response, but noticed that their walking had brought them all the way around to the original side.

The music was much louder here than the other area, the entire main area full of dancing.

Just then the final beats of a powerful bass drop song faded to a similar yet different genre.

What began as a tropic edm type mix slowly faded into a more calm R&B vibe.

"I need a Cha Cha beat, boy" ♫

It was a song Minji really enjoyed and had even learned a choreography for, Jay Park's Me Like Yuh.

Without thinking she grabbed him by the wrist and dragged him forward into the crowd of minglers to secure a decent place to dance.

"I really like this song." She gave a late explanation. "Just go with it."

As Jay Park's  questionably auto-tuned voice filled the room, Minji began dancing, finding joy in just lifting her arms and manipulating her body to fit the slightly sensual music.

She didn't really think about it, because part of being a dancer was facial expressions and stage presence. With this specific choreography, the goal of the artist was to seduce the listener.

Of course, in her instance, Dohyun was the target of he
