The Boy Is Mine

Another two weeks passed by until Summer kicked off and almost immedately, I had begun my marathon of naps before having to slave away next year as a pre-med student working in the hospital but that didn't stop my friends to bombard me with phone calls and endless ringing of my doorbell by any means. Today was no different as Ryujin showed up unannounced and despite it being five in the afternoon, I was still lazing around in pj's while playing a video game that seemed almost too addicting.

"What do you want?" I ask once opening the door, my game console still in one hand but her smile was too large for my liking and despite her being my best friend, I wanted to slam the door in her face.

"Get ready!" Is the first thing she says to me, already slithering her way into my flat as I shut the door and spin around to look at her "Why? Can't I just enjoy one day without anyone annoying me?" I whine, seriously wanting some peace and quiet but she ignores this and makes her way my bedroom

"No you can't." Her answer was quite blunt "We're all going to the boy's house to talk about where we wanna go this summer" She tells me and I groan for the hundredth time, not keen on going on another annual summer trip. Sure they were fun but none of them knew anything about survival. Jay was probably the most reliable person who we could rely on to cook for us next to Ryujin and I.

The others? Well... Let's just say instructions were complicated.

In the end however, Ryujin somehow got me to go over and that is how I ended up sandwiched between Jihoon and Jake arguing about what campsite was better suited for all of us. It was an endless conversation with everyone chiming in and Heeseung even starting a list of camping items

After a few minutes of the two men blowing out my ears on either side, I close my eyes and take a deep breath while opening my mouth to speak up

"Please, no camping" My voice calm and steady despite the bubbling frustration building within "Remember when Sunoo couldn't wait for Jay so he burned all of our meat and we had to drive four hours to the nearest store?" The said man blushes at the statement but Jake who's dead set on camping still tries to reason enthusiastically with me as his hands clasp together to plead

"But we'll just make sure Sunoo doesn't cook and I promise it'll be a fun trip without any problems" He has the best puppy eyes pointed right at me but I refuse to give in, shaking my head

"You're one to talk. Don't you remember when you tried opening the tent box with a knife and the actual tent inside ended up having a big hole so some of us had to sleep in the car? Or maybe when Niki got too excited about chopping firewood and the whole axe flung back-"

"It was an accident!" Niki yelps with red ears and we all look at him with stoic expressions since we’ve all heard this excuse one too many times "How would I have known that the axe handle was gonna be that slippery" He huffs in his place like a child and I have to slowly look away

"Anyhow..." I trail off "If you guys want a camplike experience then I say renting a cabin. That way we don’t need to use axes or tents." Glancing at their faces, the lot of them seem to be pondering about my proposal with serious thought.

Jake, who was sitting next to me, immediately jumps in his seat while clapping his hands. Being the most passionate about camping, he knew this was probably the next best thing and with others who saw his excitement couldn't help but agree as well.

I guess this was the closest thing I could get to a peaceful vacation.

------------------------------------

"Ready?" Niki asks as he stands in the frame of my front door and I nod, pushing my luggage forward and he takes a step back to give me space. I lock the door behind me as we make our way downstairs and he happily carries my duffle bag filled with more items that I needed to survive a whole week with the others including first-aid kits, medications, emergency phone numbers and whatever else could prepare me for the worst case scenario.

"Are you driving?" I squint when I see his familiar car parked out front and he nods but I stop in my tracks "Who's in there?" My gaze is pointed directly at him while he gives me a cute smile, trying to already coax me into riding that hell vehicle.

"Before you say no, the other car already left and the only option you have is to ride in my car with Yuna, Jay and Ryujin" I am clenching my teeth as he hurriedly tries to explain, even tucking my duffle bag farther behind his arm as if that would force me into the car.

Immediately, I weighed my options of having to spend three whole hours with someone I couldn't stand or driving myself. Instantly, the second option definitely seemed doable but when Niki clasps his hands together, I deflate

"You can't drive yourself because I want you to ride with me" Niki pleads with his best pout and I groan loudly before smacking his arm and stomping towards the vehicle. He slightly jumps in joy as Ryujin who is sitting in the back seat rolls down her window and greets me but I am too busy being annoyed to be excited so instead I purposely say at the top of my lungs

"You know, when I imagined riding in your car, this isn't what I had in mind"

--------------------------------------

About an hour and a half passes by and surprisingly the drive wasn't as bad as I imagined, the only mood killer being each time Yuna opened that pretty mouth of hers. I couldn't help but keep a nasty glare on her from the side of my eye since she was sitting in the passenger seat as precious cargo and wanting to be the farthest from her, I forced Jay to sit in the middle despite the fact that he was in the way of Niki's view through the mirror.

The younger male doesn't seem to mind though and now that we were all hitting the sleepy mark of road trips, Jay taps on my shoulder before politely asking

"Can I sleep on you?"

I nod, not thinking much about his request since he had no other option as Ryujin was tucked away in her own corner, earbuds in and oblivious to the rest of us.

Jay wastes no time getting comfortable, slightly shifting his body down and sharing his blanket with me but before he could lean his head onto my shoulder, Niki suddenly winces in pain as if he has just been punched

"Ouch" He whines "I think I got a neck cramp" Extending his neck, he brings one hand over to rub the said spot

"Are you okay?" Yuna's perky voice pops up and even though she is sitting up front, I flinch in surprise because I truly forgot she was there. In fact, she had been so quiet in the last ten minutes I thought she had already fallen asleep, dreaming about cakes and cream.

Leaning forward to take initiative, I place my hand on his long neck, lightly massaging it and he hums approvingly at the pressure "How did you even do that?" I ask quietly while continuing to massage his neck for another minute or two before pulling back and right away he continues to wriggle in his seat "If it hurts too much then just pull over and I can drive" Jay proposes seriously but Niki shakes his head

"No it's not that bad but it helps when Naeun massages me" He says while glancing back at us through the rear view mirror while Jay and I exchange suspicious looks but he shrugs at the younger male's stubbornness

"Niki," I say cautiously, looking at the back of his head "I can't massage you for another two hours. If you're in real pain then do as Jay says and pull over so I can see what's wrong" My tone soft as I ghost a finger over his exposed skin but he continues to protest

"Just another five minutes please?"

I can only sigh at his request and continue to massage him even in our awkward distance while Jay decides to lean his head all the way back, waiting for me to finish.

Five minutes finally pass by and when I ask if he feels better, Niki nods, suddenly feeling a lot more energetic and I can't help but feel relieved as I tip back in my own seat, noticing how my backseat partners are fast asleep.

I can't help but press my whole side into Jay as a way to get comfortable for my own trip into dreamland and Jay must have noticed the shift of movement because he ends up repositioning himself so that his head is leaning on my shoulder. I take this as a sign to press my cheek into the top of his head and close my eyes. When I am finally slipping into the haziness of fantasy, Niki suddenly slams on the brakes so hard that the three of us wake up violently with the seatbelts tightly securing us back as Yuna lets out a short shriek that I can't even blame her for.

"What the Niki!" Jay yells at the driver, obviously annoyed at the dangerous action

"Sorry, I was trying to stop the cruise option" Niki explains casually and I raised an eyebrow because I always knew Niki to be a competent driver who wouldn't carelessly step on his breaks like that. Especially if there were others in the car with him.

"Whatever man, stop driving like a lunatic" Jay huffs while him and Ryujin go back to sleep but I can no longer fall asleep now that I knew Niki was purposely doing these things so I just allow Jay to sleep on me while I keep a gaze on the lush scenery as we pass by

---------------------------------

Four long hours later, we finally reach the cabin without any more mishaps and gaping at the house as we pull in, I take notice that it seemed awfully big and secluded but considering how roudy we were, I figured it was probably for the best.

It was a log style home with a deck connecting on the right side with the obvious bonfire smack in the middle. The yard itself was filled with colorful flowers and green grass you'd expect summer nature to look like but beyond the yard was nothing more than trees leading to places one wouldn't want to get lost in.

When Niki parks behind Heeseung's car that made it here first, we all begin exiting and stretching our limbs after such a long drive

"Pop the trunk" Jay orders Niki with a gruff voice after waking up moments prior and the younger male does as he's told and we all take turns to reach in and get our own belongings out of the cramped space.

When it is my turn, I have trouble getting my heavy luggage freed and since Jay had already got his things and left without saying a word, I have to rely on myself. With both hands on the handle and one powerful tug, the suitcase lands onto the ground with a thud which causes me to instinctively release a big breath

After moving out of the way, Niki steps in to effortlessly take out the bright pink carry-on for Yuna which causes me to gape in shock.

Oh but you just watched me struggle?

I shake away the thought and roll my eyes with much distaste, grabbing my luggage and pulling it along with me towards the house entrance. I wasn't going to let them ruin my time here.

Reaching inside, it is loud with the others booming voices echoing betweens the walls of the cabin. The house itself is decorated quite modernly with some oldschool touches here and there but when I wander into the living room, the boys are discussing about the division of rooms with their personal belongings already scattered everywhere

"What do you think Naeun?" Jungwon immediately asks me from my right and I blink at him startled at the question without knowing any context "About what?..." Tilting my head, I look at the male who is sitting criss crossed on the wood floor with a serious expression

"Do you think we should randomly pick roommates? If you and Ryujin share a bedroom, that wouldn't be fair for Yuna" At his explanation, my mouth forms an 'O' and I just shrug not re

Chapter 5: Niki is doing a lot of back and forth isn’t he? Like are you gonna string Luna along or what sir? And then getting jealous over Naeun and Jay’s friendship? Despite the fact that he flirts hard with her I don’t think it’s like that as he sees it

Chapter 3: I was so dreading their first date… that he was going to be a total . But it was “fine.” Was he a little bit jealous maybe of Seojun? Wishful thinking?

Chapter 3: I dont mind movie dates for a first date because if I feel no attraction at all after sitting next to him for 2 hours in a dark room I just might never be attracted to him.

Chapter 2: So we have further insight as to why she hates Yuna but the way she is going, she will not win over Niki. I don't think she will manage anything other than ticking her friends off. Of course, she could actually catch feelings for him. That would be interesting.

Well Hello there. This sounds fun and probably something I would do. Nothing brings fondness to the heart like a good dose of hatred. 😁
Good to see you back!
