nowadays, dozens of teenagers dream about becoming a kpop star in the future; the flashing lights, the sparkling stages and the fame are certainly appealing. however, the behind the scenes aren't just as fancy as you may think. they might be smiling, but underneath their cheerful exteriors, there's more pain and suffering that you can imagine.
every month, millions of individuals from all around the world try their best luck by auditioning for a korean entertainment company in hopes of becoming the next big thing. they are certain that it is everything they want, that there isn't another path for them aside the one they dream about. yet, only a few can actually survive the strict training and make it to the spotlight, whilst the remaining give in to the pressure and lose themselves somewhere along the way of achieving perfection.
it starts in 2016: anh minjae—mtm's ceo—wants to create a girl group unlike any other existent one. most girlgroups either lack good dancers or good rappers. he wants a competent group, capable of transcending whatever expectations the public set for them. a group whose dancing skills were at the level of boygroups. a group whose singing skills were at level of the top vocalists. a group whose rapping skills were at the level of the best rappers. a group worth of the "nation's girl group" title, qualified enough to represent south korea. and he won't stop until he finds the perfect combination.
it takes him a while, but by january 2019, anh minjae finally finds the ideal set of trainees he had been looking for. he decides to name them supreme; just like their name, their impact would be supreme, remarkable and unforgettable. they were talented, unique, versatile and visually appealing. "the perfect combination," he thought.
they start out as being known as the mtm girls; a project created by the company with the objective of promoting them before debuting. and once they are introduced to the public, it doesn't take long for the girls to become a hot topic among the netizens.
after all the attention they received pior to their debut, supreme is now expected to continue the legacy. however, the pressure of living up to the expectations set by the ceo is suffocating, not to mention the other burdens that come with being an idol. will supreme be able to succeed while carrying such heavy weight on their shoulders?
