Awrah (1)
! . . . A day with Kim JaeJoong . . . !"Aurat means shame which is, genereally, what we cover from the public, " Khadijah said with a smile from ear to ear. There was a short silence but we both knew that JaeJoong was taking all the time he needed to process what he was told. He stared at the marble flooring with knitted eyebrows. " Can you explain? " he looked up to me, expecting a few examples.
" Well ... for Muslims, we - okay never mind. Just take an example of Khadijah and me. You can't see our hair right? " he nodded. "That's because Allah says in the Holy Qur'an that women's awrah is EVERY PART OF THEIR BODY except for their face, " I pointed to Khadijah's. "And our palms, " I raised my palms to show him.
"O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters, and the believing women, to draw their cloaks (veils) over their bodies. That will be better that they should be known (as respectable woman) so as not to be annoyed. And Allah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." [AlAhzab:59]
"Hey, those look like numbers..." he scrutinized his eyes, thinking they were playing with him. "Yes, they are indeed!" Khadijah skipped a little closer to me and also showed her palms to JaeJoong. We asked him to look at his own and when he did, he was absolutely gobsmacked.
My cousin and I chuckled at his expression. I let out a breath and said, "on the right is the number 18 while the other is 81. If you add them together it will result 99... Allah has 99 names :) " His cat eyes widened, beating the size of a soccer ball. "Beautiful isn't it?" Khadijah smirked.
"ANYWAY, we women can show some parts of our body to only certain people. Allah made it easy for us, Alhamdulillah ^^ Our awrah with a mahram, someone we are forbidden to marry, are face, hair, neck, forearms and feet. Our mahrams are our father, brother, nephew and a few others." I informed.
“And not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent (like both eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer palms of hands or one eye or dress like veil, gloves, headcover, apron), and to draw their veils all over Juyoobihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms) and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands, or their fathers, or their husband’s fathers, or their sons, or their husband’s sons, or their brothers or their brother’s sons, or their sister’s sons, or their (Muslim) women” [al-Noor 24:31].
"Unlike you, Kim JaeJoong, you are not our mahram. That is why we can't show you our hair etc." I nodded to my cousin's words.
"Why can't you show them to your 'non-mahrams'? i mean, what's the purpose? and do you mean only women have awrah? " JaeJoong's questions went deeper.
