The Night Sky

Everlasting Love

Zhou Mi stretched his limbs as he lay on the hotel bed. His mind was still racing from the excitement that took place before. The Chinese man closed his eyes and tried to remember all the energy and rush of SMTown New York. The smiles of the crowd, the cheers, the sea of multi colored light sticks that waved back and forth; all of it was coming back to him. The feeling of being on the stage has always made his heart race with excitement, it made the world feel bright and alive to him. It was a feeling he wouldn't trade for anything.

“Zhou Mi gege, check out the night life!” Henry called from the window. Zhou Mi lazily lifted his head and faced the younger boy who motioned him over to the window of their room. Zhou Mi laughed at Henry’s eagerness and slowly stood up.

“Come on gege!” Henry whined at his senior's slowness.

“I’m coming, don’t rush me,” the older man chuckled and he approached the window. Looking out at New York City wasn’t so different from looking out at Seoul at night, except everything is in English. Zhou Mi watched as the busy night life of the bustling city.  Cars and trucks littered the roads as crowds of people walk this way and that on the busy streets. Zhou Mi could see the ever busy Times Square from his room window.

“Everything looks so alive at night!” Henry chirped with glee. Zhou Mi smiled at the boy’s excitement. Henry loves New York so it was no surprise that he would be so excited.

“It must be the lights from the building and streets that make it seem like that,” Zhou Mi replied as he gazed up at the dark New York sky, faintly dotted with stars. One star in particular seemed to outshine the rest. It was beautiful and clear against the night sky. Zhou Mi couldn’t help but smile.

Henry raised an eyebrow. “What’s up?”

The Chinese man laughed, “Nothing, just admiring the stars.”

Henry turned to the sky and his eyes light up. “Zhou Mi gege checkout the moon!” Henry cried. Zhou Mi turned his gaze to the silver crescent that hung in the sky. A cloud hung low beneath the waning moon, giving it a very eerie but beautiful feel.

“Just like in those horror movies, right gege?” Henry asked.

Zhou Mi pressed his lips together. “I don’t know. I find it’s more romantic than ominous Henry.”

Henry pretended to gag at Zhou Mi’s words. “Ack! Romantic Zhou Mi! My weakness! I die, die… still dying!” He droned childishly and fell dramatically to the floor.

Zhou Mi rolled his eyes at the boy’s immature act. Though Henry was twenty three years old, he still had the ability to act like a seven year boy when he wants to. Henry lay motionless on the floor. The Chinese man bent over the boy.

“Are you dead yet?” He teased. “Not yet,” the boy muttered. A few moments passed, Zhou Mi held in his laughter. “Okay, now I’m dead.” Zhou Mi fell on the bed with laughter, sometimes Henry absolutely kills him. (A/N: no pun intended. Well maybe a little)

There was a knock at the door. “It’s open!” Zhou Mi called in Korean. Jungsu walked in.

“Okay time to-“ he stopped in mid-sentence when his gaze rolled over Henry’s limp and exaggerated dead pose; head turned to the side, mouth hanging open and eyes closed. The older man raised an eyebrow and pointed at the boy.

“What happened to him?” Henry lifted his head from the floor. “Zhou Mi had romantic thoughts and I died.” He said in an “a-matter-of-fact” tone, and then he dropped back into his dead pose. Jungsu looked at Zhou Mi with surprise.

“Romantic?” He said questioningly. Zhou Mi smiled sheepishly and hung his head. “All I said was that the moon had a romantic feel, nothing more hyung!” He complained to the Korean man. Zhou Mi heard Jungsu sigh with exhaustion.

“I am the leader of a bunch of goofballs.” He groaned. Zhou Mi raised his head and met the leader’s eyes.

“You sound really tired hyung. Are you getting enough rest?” Jungsu shook his head.

“Zhou Mi ah, I doubt any of us are getting enough rest. I have a lot on my mind right now. Being in We Got Married, Hello Baby, preparing for Super Show 4 and participating in SMTown has left me drained,” Jungsu cracked his neck and rubbed his shoulder. “But I’ll manage. And speaking of rest, you two should get some sleep. We wouldn’t want to miss our flight back home now, would we?” As if on cue, the room was filled with soft snores. Zhou Mi crawled to the edge of the bed and looked down at the Henry’s sleeping form. Somehow, he had managed to fall asleep lying in his dead pose. Zhou Mi couldn’t help but crack a smile, Henry looks so adorable when he’s asleep.

“Aish, oh well.” Jungsu sighed and he knelt down next to Henry and held him underneath the arms. The Korean man looked up at Zhou Mi, smiling in spite of how tired he was. “Could you help me carry him to his bed, he’s a little heavy.” Zhou Mi got up and grabbed the sleeping boy’s feet.

“Okay, one, two, three,” Jungsu grunted as they lifted Henry from the floor of the hotel room. Jungsu and Zhou Mi carried Henry to one of the hotel beds and gently lay him on the comforter. Henry his right side and let out a soft moan. Zhou Mi sighed, that boy was in a whole other world right now. Perhaps he was contently dreaming in Wonderland. (A/N: I like Alice in Wonderland, I couldn’t help myself)

“You should get some sleep too, Mi ah.” Jungsu heartily patted the taller man on the back. “You did well today.” He praised. Zhou Mi smiled at the older man.

“Thanks hyung, you too.” He replied and strolled to the other bed. “Good night, Zhou Mi ah,” Jungsu called as he walked out the door. “Good night, hyung,” Zhou Mi replied and he climbed into bed. The Chinese man reached for the lamp and shut off the light, swamping the room with darkness.

Zhou Mi stared up at the ceiling, unable to fall asleep. He sat up in frustration and rubbed his neck; the excitement of the concert lingered in his mind. The Chinese man got out of bed and walked to the window. He gazed at the moon, no longer obscured by clouds. The silver crescent did have a slight eerie essence about it, but it was beautiful none the less. Suddenly everything felt very different, changed. Zhou Mi couldn’t reason why, but it suddenly felt as if everything was going to change. It wasn’t unsettling, but the thought of change made him sleepy. Zhou Mi turned away from the window and crawled back into bed; falling asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow.
