Siwon’s most beloved person in his family was his grandpa. His grandpa loved him and didn’t care about his homouality. He was a silent man who didn’t speak much, but when he did it was wise. Every winter he took Siwon ice fishing. There is a lake near their hometown, which is in the middle of beautiful nature and this year Siwon takes Yesung with him to experience ice fishing.

Yesung was usually sick during every winter or they had different plans, but this year Siwon is finally going to show him ice fishing. He borrows few things from his uncle and then they head to the lake. It is Sunday so there are few people, but the lake is big and full of fishes. Siwon easily finds the best spot and then grabs a drill. Siwon is drilling a hole to get to the water and fishes while Yesung is trying to open a thermos flask without taking his mittens off. They are both wearing many layers of warm clothes and Yesung is also wearing a life vest and a whistle in case he gets into troubles. The ice is almost 20 centimeters thick, but Yesung is still scared that it is going to break. The truth is he can’t swim very well. 

Yesung unfolds a small chair and sits down. The rubber shoes are heavy and uncomfortable, so he is glad he can sit down. Siwon finished drilling the hole and then takes a short casting rod. Siwon has no problem with stabbing a wax worm on the small fishing hook, but Yesung decides to use a flashy artificial lure. The ends of their casting rods sink and disappear in the cold water and Siwon also sat down. Now they will wait.

Yesung rubs the tip of his button nose and fixes his sunglasses. The sun is occasionally hiding behind white, fluffy clouds, but when it shines the sharp light stabs Yesung’s eyes. Yesung sips on a warm tea and watches the rod. 

“How long will it take?”

Siwon shrugs and rubs his cheeks.

“Hard to tell, sometimes the fishes don’t care about lures.”

Yesung swallows a curse and turns his eyes back to the hole in the ice. He doesn’t even like fishes, he likes chicken. But his husband looks so happy, he remembers every day he spent here with his grandpa. These days are one of his most treasured memories, of course right after the memories he created with his husband. The thermos flask is slowly getting empty and they still caught nothing. Yesung is getting tired of the waiting. He unwraps a chocolate bar when suddenly Siwon jumps up because he caught something! He pulls out a pretty big catfish and Yesung pouts in disbelief. How is this possible? Why is Siwon so good at everything? Yesung is desperately staring at the hole in the ice, but no fish comes. In the end he gave up because evening is slowly coming and Yesung is cold. 

There are few older grandmas who can cook the fish you caught. Siwon hands them the catfish and they watch the fish sizzling on the frying pan. Yesung is quite hungry, so when one of the grandmas gave them a paper plate with their fish, he quickly takes a piece and blows on it before putting it in his mouth and chewing. He has to say that it is delicious and they sit down and eat. Yesung is still disappointed that he caught no fish, but just a cold. On the other hand Siwon is in seventh heaven and right after arriving home, he prepared a big mug of hot chocolate with whipped cream for Yesung and wrapped his husband in the warmest blanket they have. Because marriage isn’t just about your happiness, it is about giving too.
