"Nessie!" a loud, excited voice screeched from the front door.
Vanessa almost lost her balance and fell off the couch at the sudden scream. She scrambled to stabilise her laptop that was perched on her thighs, before pressing the space bar to pause the drama she had been watching and ripping off her earpiece. She looked up wildly before sighing heavily at the sight of Chanel's thrilled face as she burst through the front door behind Leon. Vanessa was in the middle of the final episode of Crash Landing on You when the front door opened with an automatic sound. As that fan-favourite Korean drama had ended a while back, she was able to restfully binge-watch the entire series without having to painfully wait for the weekly updates. All this while, she had been leeching off of Russell's Netflix family account ever since her own free trial had expired a week ago and she was just too lazy to register for a new account for another free month. Apparently, she heard that she would need a new bank card to link to a new account and she definitely did not have that many bank cards to use for Netflix.
"Shut up, Nellie! You almost made me drop and break a plate," Russell's voice rang out from the kitchen, where he stood scrubbing the dirty dishes. He had lost a game of rock-paper-scissors to Vanessa earlier and ended up becoming the dishwasher for the evening with much despair.
"Please, I've eaten in this apartment enough times to know that those plates are made of plastic, because your cheapskate doesn't want to buy the ceramic ones. So they won't break no matter how hard you throw them on the floor." Chanel waved the older male off dismissively as she dropped the cup of bubble tea she was holding on the dining table before skipping towards Vanessa with a greater purpose, totally ignoring the string of expletives leaving Russell's lips.
"Let's go on double dates tomorrow!" Chanel exclaimed jovially as she sat beside Vanessa and side-hugged the older girl.
Vanessa nearly choked on her own saliva at the younger's words. Removing herself from Chanel's grasp, she closed her laptop and carefully set it down in the middle of the tea table, far away from herself, so that any subsequent surprises from Chanel wouldn't cause any damage to her precious MacBook Pro. Vanessa quietly eyed Chanel as if the younger girl had grown another head.
Chanel took Vanessa's silence as consent to continue.
"I found us dates, really gorgeous dates!" Chanel sighed blissfully and went on to deliver her grand ten-minute speech on how she had become acquainted with two gorgeous Korean oppas, Samuel Im and Joel Lee, from the varsity basketball team over a game of basketball and a KBBQ dinner. Over dinner, she had shown Joel a picture of Vanessa and had somehow managed to convince the boys to take the two of them out on a joint date the very next day.
Vanessa's head began to hurt towards the end of Chanel's spiel with the information overload.
She turned towards Leon, who had just come out of the shower while Chanel was rambling excitedly, and huffed indignantly, "And you just sat there and let her sell me off to a complete stranger without any intervention? What kind of friend are you?"
Leon shrugged as he messily dried his hair with a towel. "I didn't know she was selling you off
