Incessant flashes of lightning illuminated the dark room. Low rumbles of thunder were accompanied by the dull howling of the wind and the pelting of the rain against the windows. There was a huge thunderstorm outside.
Vanessa tossed in her bed as she gradually stirred awake. Another streak of lightning lit up the room momentarily just as she opened her eyes slowly, forcing the girl to shut them almost immediately. Slapping her palm over her eyes, she groaned, reaching out blindly for her phone on the nightstand. She let out another whine after she peeked through her fingers to look at the time.
2:53 A.M.
There was still a whole seven minutes before her phone alarm rang. That meant she could have slept for seven minutes more. Vanessa forced down another growl that was threatening to escape her lips at that thought. Kicking the sheets off of herself, she reluctantly climbed into a sitting position and slapped on her glasses. Rubbing her temples at the sound of a particularly loud clap of thunder, she silently hoped that the rain would stop before dawn broke. If not, her new white Adidas were definitely going to be dirtied by the muddy ground.
Opening the door, Vanessa exited her room and swiftly tied her into a messy ponytail. She trudged into the living room and saw Leon at the dining table. He had somehow managed to find himself some space opposite her MacBook Pro and a pile of handwritten notes that were messily littered all over the table. Raising an eyebrow, Vanessa rolled her eyes after seeing the male gaming intensely on his laptop with his headphones on, completely undisturbed by the pouring rain outside. He didn't even notice her presence when she sat in front of him with a steaming cup of 3-in-1 instant coffee. Vanessa bit back an amused chuckle and went ahead with her final stretch of revision for the next day's finals with her AirPods plugged in.
"What the hell! Since when were you here?"
Vanessa flinched at a sudden loud male voice, her pencil involuntarily drawing a dark line across the paper. She looked up to see Leon removing his headphones, his expression mirroring the same startled look on her face.
"Since you were busy gaming." Vanessa r
