AN: I wrote this back in December 2018 and it was my first story published on this site. My first fanfiction in fact. I am republishing it to this compilation of short stories to keep things organized. 

This is not the orignal edit; I made some minor changes, but none that affected the story over all. It is very simple. The premise was inspired by Chaeyoung's snowman quote, "It's important to have someone who will wrap a scarf around a snowman." (Original translation found from this tweet.) You can imagine whomever you'd like to be Chaeyoung's companion.

It starts with the third snowfall. This time the snow has stuck to the ground covering the town with its light, white powder. It is Sunday morning and I immediately run outside, bundled in my coat, scarf, hat, and mittens.

You come outside as well, screaming in delight at the wonderful sight in front of you. That’s the good thing about your best friend living right across the street: you never have to look far for fun.

“Let’s build a snowman,” you say eagerly as you begin to gather the snow around you. You pack it tightly into a large, lopsided sphere.

I giggle in agreement and kneel down to help.

We work in silence with only the sound of our cold breaths and the occasional bird call echoing in the air. After placing the final touches, you step back to admire our work. The misshapen creation looks back at us with a sheepish grin, its mouth made of forgotten twigs and pine needles. One of its arm clung to its side – slowly on the verge of falling off – whilst the other awkwardly juts out like a broken wave. The final touch is the nose, not that of a carrot which typically would be used, but of an icicle that blends in too well with the rest of the face.

We gaze at the snowman, and despite its rugged appearance, you beam at it like it’s the finest piece of art ever made.

“It’s still missing something,” you state after a beat of silence. You then take off your scarf and gently wrap it around the snowman. “It looked cold,” you say, shrugging slightly embarrassed.

I laugh at your act of kindness. Of course only you would think of that. “But what about you? Won’t you be cold?”

“It’s fine.” You put on a brave face, but as a gust of wind sweeps past us, your teeth chatter. 

“Wait.” I walk over to you and unbundle my own scarf, carefully wrapping it around the both of us. “We can share.”

“Thanks.” You draw in nearer.

We stay like this for a few moments before we decide that perhaps it is indeed a little too cold to be staying outside.

“C’mon,” I tell you as I drape my arm around your shoulder, “Let’s go inside my house.”

You nod, wrapping your own arm around my waist.

We both look back at our snowman wearing your scarf. It doesn’t look cold anymore, and for a second neither are we . . . until another large gust of wind sends us running.

“You just had to give the snowman your scarf, didn’t you?” I yell as we dash towards my house.

You smile a smile so bright the winter day starts to melt away. “Even a snowman needs someone to put a scarf around it.”
