Yoo Young Jae: A Rollercoaster Ride

B.A.P. Valentine’s Day Oneshots ♥

Mr. Kim signaled for the people in the front-most row of each column to pass the checked test papers. Youngjae wasn’t surprised to see an ‘A’ written on his paper. He satisfactorily smiled and looked at you.

You just got your test result and were staring intently at it. ‘Omo…it can’t be…But…this is impossible!’ You looked at Youngjae with an expression he didn’t know how to read.

Youngjae sighed. ‘After all those hours I spent for her, she got herself another ‘F’?! At this rate, she’ll never graduate!’ But he was surprised when you brightened up, broke out into a smile and squealed. “ A C!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got a ‘C’, Youngjae!!!!!!!!!! Woohoo!!!!!!!! “ You jumped up in happiness. “Youngjae oppa, I got a ‘C’!!!!”

In a split-second, all the student’s attention were on you and Youngjae. Youngjae quickly dragged you back down and smiled apologetically at Mr. Kim who was glaring. Then, he turned to you. “YAH! Why did you jump and call me ‘oppa’ from out of nowhere?!”

You ignored the question. “Youngjae, do you see my result?!” You said, pointing at the red ‘C’ on your paper.

Youngjae sighed. “Yeah, yeah, I saw it. It even got me to be humiliated in front of the whole class by you, how couldn’t I see it?”

“Yah, don’t blame my first-ever ‘C’! It did nothing wrong!” You sighed in contentment, then realized something. “Now that I improved, you don’t need to tutor me anymore…” You smiled on the outside, but inside, you actually didn’t want him to stop. Not anymore. ‘Am I falling for Youngjae?’ You looked up at his unreadable expression. ‘No. I can’t. It’s obvious he won’t like me back, anyway.’

He forgot about that. He got used to being with you, tutoring you though you weren’t listening. He almost smiled but snapped back to reality and cleared his throat. “Uh, well…about that…”

You sighed. “It was…fun. Being with you. Thanks, Youngjae…”

Suddenly, he snapped. “Y-YAH! Do you really think I’m that easy to get rid of?!”

“Mwo….?”

He smirked. “Just because you got a ‘C’…” He smirked straight at you with mischievous eyes. “…doesn’t mean you’re smart enough already. What good is a ‘C’, anyway?! The real reason why I was humiliated a minute ago wasn’t just because of the ‘oppa’ part…” He pointed a finger at your test paper. “…I was humiliated because of THIS.”

You hugged your paper. “YAH! I told you not to blame it!”

He shook his head. “The teacher assigned me to be your tutor since I’m the SMARTEST in class, don’t you remember? But if I tutored you properly, then you’re supposed to get an ‘A’ not a ‘C’!”

“Properly? Then you weren’t tutoring me properly?” You asked.

“YAH! It’s not the tutor’s fault but the student’s!” he answered back.

“NO IT’S NOT!” You denied.

He scoffed and smirked. “Then prove it!”

You huffed. “I will! And I’ll get you that freaking ‘A’ that you want!”

He smiled. ‘YES! I still get to tutor her!’ He was actually worried that he won’t be able to…but he doesn’t know why. ‘Am I going crazy?!’ He shook off the thought and turned back to you. “But what if you don’t get an ‘A’, what would you do?”

You tapped your finger on your chin. But before you could answer, he answered for you.

“You’ll be my slave for a month!!!!” Youngjae exclaimed.

“What the hell did you just-“

“No more changing!” He crossed his arms over his chest and refused to look at your offended face.

You thought about it. “But IF I get an ‘A’, you’ll have to proclaim ME smarter than you in front of the class.”

His eyes widened in an instant. “WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY?!”

“No more changing!” You stuck out your tongue.

“ But I can’t do that!”

“Why~?”

“ ‘Cause if I did that, I’d be lying.”

“Don’t you think that sounds insulting in my part?”

“The truth hurts, but you’ll have to face it sooner or later…”

“YOUNGJAE!!!”

“Ok, ok…I’ll do it.”

“Good.”

“Only because I know you wouldn’t get an ‘A’.”

You glared at him. He shrugged and gave you a heart-melting smile. ‘Wait a minute, ‘heart-melting’? Where did that word come from? My heart would NOT melt for Youngjae. Even if he was the last guy on earth.’ But truthfully, you couldn’t help but feel happy since he would still be your tutor.

The bell rung.

Youngjae strapped on his bag and looked at you. You suddenly dropped your books and crouched down to get them again. He shook his head. ‘_____, you’re so clumsy.’ He bent down and collected all of the books quicker than you. You muttered a ‘thank you’ and were about to leave but he stopped you. “Wait for me at the gates later, ok?”

You nodded.

He let you go and you went, leaving him to wonder if he should confess to you today. ‘It’s Valentine’s Day, so I should…but what if she doesn’t feel the same way? Humiliation.’

-------------

You waited patiently for Youngjae while constantly looking at your watch. When you looked up, you noticed him coming. You started preparing to get angry at him for taking so long (making a girl stand for an hour is very disappointing), but two girls went to him and gave him gifts. He smiled and bowed accepting the gifts. You scoffed. ‘Is he THAT happy?’

Youngjae noticed you and ran beside you. He expected you to get mad, as always but you just looked hatefully at him. He got confused. “Aren’t you going to shout or freak out or something?”

You glared at the ground. “No, why would I do that? And why are you here, anyway? Don’t you have a date or something?”

He raised an eyebrow. “Hey, what’s with the sudden glaring? Did I do something wrong?”

You refused to look at him. ‘He wouldn’t even answer my question. So he really does have a date???’

He sighed. “I don’t have a date, okay? Can’t we go now?” He muttered, “Women are just the hardest thing to understand.” He looked at you. ‘Why would she be asking if I have a date? I should be the one asking her that. Which reminds me…’

You were about to go but he stopped you. “WAIT! Don’t YOU have a date?” he asked.

“Of course not! Why would a guy even ask me out?” you asked then smiled playfully. “No one could like someone as dumb as me…you said so yourself.”

He let go of you and you walked ahead of him. He didn’t move from his spot and thought about what you said. ‘She must hate me so much for calling her ‘dumb’. But the truth is, I really didn’t mean to call her that.’

“Youngjae!” You called out.

“ Uh…what? Oh, yeah…right…” He mentally slapped himself. ‘Stop looking stupid, Youngjae, and just make the most out of this day.’ “Coming!” He pumped his fist and quickly said ‘fighting’ then ran to catch up to you.

-----------

“Hey, mom! We’re here!” You called out as you went through the door.

“ _________ ! I’m in the kitchen. “

You went there and saw her making chocolates out of the chocolate you’ve prepared. “Mom! What are you doing?!”

“Making chocolates.”

You panicked.“But that’s the chocolate that I prepared~! I told you it doesn’t taste good.”

“I tasted it a while ago and it seemed okay.”

“But it doesn’t taste perfect.”

“Since when did being perfect start to matter to you?”

You looked down. ‘Since I started liking someone who’s perfect.’ You thought bitterly.

She noticed this and shook her head. “Were you supposed to give this to someone?”

“NO!!!!” You spoke a little too defensively.

Your mom smiled. “Who is it? Is it that boy who tutors you?”

“MOM!” You hissed, hoping Youngjae didn’t hear from the living room.

But in fact, he did. He started to breathe faster. ‘Were her chocolates meant for me?’

“So? Are they for Youngjae?” she whispered.

You bit your lip and slowly nodded.

Your mom’s lips slowly curled into a wide smile and squealed. “GIVE HIM THESE CHOCOLATES AND CONFESS ALREADY!!!”

Youngjae, who was just outside the kitchen tried his best to stop himself from jumping up and down and then hugging you. ‘SHE LIKES ME?! SHE FREAKING LIKES ME?!’ He looked hungrily at the chocolates. ‘She should just follow her mother’s advice and give me those…’

But to his shock, you replied. “There’s no need to give him chocolates or to confess.”

Your mom spoke up what was in Youngjae’s mind. “WHY?!”

“He doesn’t even like me.”

‘MWO?!’ Youngjae shouted in his head. ‘How could you not see that I LIKE YOU?!’ He sighed frustratingly. ‘Of course, she wouldn’t notice. She’s too stupid to do so, which is the main reason why I became her teacher. But maybe today, it’s time for her to learn something different. She’s going to learn what Yoo Youngjae feels.’

You went out from the kitchen and noticed him outside. “YOUNGJAE! Have you been listening?!”

He acted innocent and shrugged. “NO, I was just about to go inside and greet umma.” He went inside and smiled at your mom. “Umma! Oh, are you making chocolates?”

She sweetly smiled. “Actually, they were made by ______. I’ll bring up some for your snacks later. So go on and have your lesson upstairs already. “

You realized that you haven’t even told your mom the result for the test. “Umma-“

But Youngjae dragged you away. “Come on, she said go upstairs.”

“But I-“ He dragged you up the stairs recklessly. “YAH! YOUNGJAE!”

“ Aish! Can’t you just shut up?!”

You slammed your bedroom door open. ‘Sometimes he can just be SO IRRITATING!’ You looked at him while he sat down near the study table.  He concentrated his eyes on the pages of the math book. You smiled. ‘But he has changed a lot since he first tutored me. He’s less serious about everything now.’ You continued staring at him.

He kept flipping the pages. Without even looking up, he said, “Keep staring at me and you might just burn a hole into my face.”

You tilted your head and muttered. “But I don’t even have laser vision. How can I make a hole?”

He smiled. ‘It’s an idiom, pabo.’ He straightened up. “Let’s start with this one.”

---------------

2 and a half hours later, you were still scratching your head. “Youngjae, how did you get this answer again?”

He glared at you. “Do you even know the formula?”

“What formula?”

“AISH! You’re too hopeless. At this rate, you’ll NEVER get an ‘A’!”

You gulped and looked down. ‘He’s right, I’ll never get an ‘A’. I’m too dumb for that.’ Everything was awkwardly silent.

Youngjae realized that he might’ve hurt your feelings. ‘She looks like she’s about to cry. Crap.’ But then, your mother entered, carrying a tray of chocolates.

“I brought the-“ then she noticed the tension inside the room. “____, Youngjae, is there something wrong?”

“Nothing, umma.”  You stood up and took the chocolates from her and put them on the study table. She just shrugged and walked back the way she came in. You looked at Youngjae. ‘Should I just grab the chocolates and throw them at the window?’

Youngjae could feel you looking at him. ‘These are her chocolates, right? I can’t believe I could be tis nervous in tasting a chocolate…’ He took one and was about to pop it into his mouth but you quickly stopped his hand with yours.

He looked at you with a blank expression. You bit your lip and couldn’t help but think, ‘He looks more handsome up close…’

Youngjae, on the other hand, couldn’t help but smile at your pink face. ‘I wonder what she’s thinking of right now…’ In one swift movement, his nose was already touching yours.

Your eyes widened at the sudden lack of space and you straightened up. But then you slipped on some papers so you fell and hit your head at the study table. ‘Holy crap, _____, why do you have to be so clumsy?!’

Youngjae knelt down beside you in concern. “Hey, are you okay?” He touched your head. “Does it hurt?”

At first, didn’t know what to say. After a few seconds, you managed to stutter, “U-um, I’ll j-just go and get s-some ice.” You quickly ran outside, closed the door and leaned on it. You took a deep breath and tried forgetting how close he was, but failed. ‘We almost kissed back there…’ You touched your lips. “But what if we did kiss?’ You shook your head and went downstairs to get an ice pack.

-----------------

Meanwhile, Youngjae was dumbfounded. ‘What’s with the stuttering, anyway?’ He turned his attention back to the chocolate. ‘Well, since this was meant for me, I should eat it somehow.’ He put it onto his mouth. He froze. He looked at the tray of chocolates and then at the door. Making sure you weren’t there yet, he took another piece of chocolate and popped it to his mouth.

He smiled foolishly to his self. ‘HOW CAN CHOCOLATE TASTE SO GOOD?!’ He looked at the tray of chocolates again.

He his lips. ‘Should I…?’

--------------

You came back, holding the ice pack on your head. ‘Aish, why do I ALWAYS act so clumsy?!’ When you came in, you saw Youngjae sleeping with one arm under his head on the study table. You softened up and walked quietly towards him.

You knelt down beside him and brushed away his bangs. “Why can’t you just color your hair brown? Your blonde hair makes me think you’re some kind of alien or something…” you muttered.

Then, your fingertips lightly touched his eyebrows. ‘His eyes always seem to look through me. I wonder how one look can make me feel like falling.’ You touched the tip of his nose and remembered the ‘almost-kiss’ a while ago. Your face burned up. Your fingers hovered near his lips, but you didn’t dare to touch them. “I wonder how it would feel to…” You thought aloud.

Youngjae abruptly held your hand and opened his eyes. He looked straight at you with a mischievous glint in his eyes. “Would you like to know?”

You gulped. “Know what?”

“Know how it would feel.”

‘Crap.’ You felt your face burning up, but you stayed silent.

He smirked. “Silence means ‘yes’.” He leaned in…

‘Oh my God, I can’t believe my first kiss would be like this…!’ You thought as he went closer. You closed your eyes.

Youngjae stopped and looked at you. A smile broke out from his face. ‘So cute…’ Then he kissed you on the cheek.

You opened your eyes and furrowed your eyebrows. “That’s it?!” You realized what you just said and facepalmed yourself. ‘I’m such a pabo! You weren’t supposed to say that, ____! Just hope he didn’t hear.’

Youngjae was surprised by what you said. And just looked at you while you facepalmed yourself. “Why? What were you expecting?” he slyly asked.

‘Oh shoot.’ “Um, nothing…”

After an awkward moment of silence, he cleared his throat and smirked. “So, how did a kiss from an alien feel like?”

Your eyes widened. “YOU WERE AWAKE THE WHOLE TIME?!”

This time, he smiled naturally and ruffled your hair.

Your jaw dropped.

“ ______! YOUNGJAE! It’s time for dinner!” Your mom called out.

“Let’s have dinner already. Your mom’s calling us.” He walked out of the bedroom.

You just stood there, then finally snapped back to reality. “YAH! You haven’t even answered the question!” You sighed and just followed.

----------------

Youngjae sat across you. Throughout dinner, he looked at you (which feels more uncomfortable than it sounds). From time-to time, you would blush without you even knowing while Youngjae would just smile at how cute you were.

After dinner, your mom went to clean up and left the two of you alone. At this time, Youngjae was supposed to be on his way home. But he decided to stay longer since it was a special day.

“Why aren’t you going yet?” you asked.

“You want me to go already?”

‘No.’ you thought but stayed silent.

“Next year, give me some chocolates on Valentine’s Day.”

You blinked. “What did you say?”

“Your chocolates are the most delicious ones I’ve ever tasted. Once you don’t get an ‘A’, you’ll become my slave, right? I’ll force you to make chocolates for me everyday.” He smiled at the thought.

“I’ll definitely have to get an ‘A’ then.” You thought bitterly.

He looked at you seriously. “But even if you could get an ‘A’, it would still be okay.”

You looked back at him. “But I thought you don’t like admitting that someone else is smarter than you?”

“I didn’t say that I’d do that.”

You got confused. “What do you mean? You’ll accept the punishment but you wouldn’t admit that I’m smarter than you?” You sighed frustratingly. “You’re making me so confused.”

He smiled. “I wouldn’t admit you’re smarter than me BUT, I’ll confess instead.”

You froze. ‘Did I just hear him say ‘confess’?’

He took your hand and made you face him. “Or maybe I could just do that now.”

You tried to look at the car that just passed by, at the house on the other side of the street, at the stars that twinkle brightly in the sky. But in that moment, your heart was controlling you, not your mind. You just found yourself not being able to look away from him.

“I like you.”

“Why?”

He laughed a bit at your question. “Because you never EVER fail to amuse me. You’re clumsy, stupid, clueless, a bit dumb…”

“Those are insults, Youngjae.”

He leaned closer so that you would shut up, and you did. “You always try your best, you make the most delicious chocolates, you’re cute, pretty and you make me smile whenever I’m alone or when I’m not even supposed to.”

You softened. ‘Is he  just playing with me? Does he really feel the same way I do?’

“You’re the first person to make me feel unsure, to make me stutter on my words, to make me smile though I’m angry.” He laughed again then looked straight at you. “So?”

“So what?”

He smiled and repeated. “I like you.”

“Well, I like you, too.”

“That’s it?!” He said to remind you of the kiss earlier.

You instantly blushed. ‘I still can’t believe I said that out loud.’

“Would you like to know?”

‘He said this earlier, too.’ You looked nervously at him. “Know what?”

“Know how it would feel.” He said without a hint of playfulness.

“Youngjae I-“

But you weren’t able to say anything since his lips were on yours already. You slowly closed your eyes.

He pulled away. “So, how did a REAL kiss from an alien feel like?”

Your face burned up. “The truth is…my head is kind of dizzy right now…”

He touched your cheek. “Then let me refresh your memory.” He leaned in again and kissed you a bit longer this time.

Your head was spinning and your stomach felt like you were about to drop from a rollercoaster. ‘God, what am I feeling?’

He stopped and looked at you. “So?”

“I’m on a rollercoaster.”

He laughed. “Like I said, you NEVER fail to amuse me.”

You loved hearing him laugh and you unconsciously smiled at him.

“Why? Is there something on my face?”

“I like you, too.”

He softened up. “Did you like the rollercoaster?” He smiled cockily.

Knowing that he was referring to the kiss, you bit your lip. ‘What should I say?’

“Silence means ‘yes’.” He said then added. “Would you like to ride it again, though?”

You just smiled and looked at him.

He his bottom lip and smiled a bit. “Silence means ‘yes’.”

And with that, the rollercoaster ride started again.
