This is a commonly addressed topic in the k-pop fandom. You all know it, you've all read it, you know what I'm talking about.

You're hanging out with one of your friends from school who has no idea about K-Pop.. You decide to show her a video- say, SHINee's Sherlock.

One minute into the video, she starts making commentary that REALLY pisses you off.

"Is that a girl?!"

"He looks gay."

"Why are they wearing makeup?! Gay."

"What the hell is wrong with their outfits?! They're dressed like girls!"

Now MOST fans would respond like this:

"NO, THAT'S A BOY YOU IDIOT."

"OPPA IS NOT GAY."

"MAKEUP MAKES THEM LOOK BETTER THAN AMERICAN ARTISTS, SO SHUT UP."

"THEIR OUTFITS ARE AMAZING! WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?"

Why do most respond like this? Simple- defensive delusional fangirl syndrome, or DDFS. (NO OFFENSE MY DARLINGS)

How do I respond to this?:

"No actually, he's a guy, he just has really long hair. Guys can have long hair too."

"Gay? I dunno, how would I know? I don't know them in person."

"It's part of the industry- they don't wear makeup off camera."

"Hah, they're outfits are pretty funny, but hey, it works with the video, right?"

...

The key line here is "I don't know them in person."

Which brings me to my topic today.

"Oppar's uality"

I know a LARGE, LARGE majority of people on AFF are fans of . Me? I'm not a big reader or writer of it, but I have my OTPs ;D (JONGKEY AND DAEJAE FOREVER)

And that's TOTALLY fine! It's writing, it's expressing yourself, it's fantasizing- those are all great! Daydream about your OTP, go for it!

I mean, I daydream about my OTPs (not my OTPs, my hetero OTPs XD SKYDRAGON TOPBOM AND SKYZICO FTW), and I even daydream about ME with my "oppar". C'mon, who hasn't? XD

There's not a problem in that.

But what IS a problem is when fangirls start to believe that they actually KNOW Oppa.

They "KNOW" Taemin oppa loves Minho oppa. It's "TRUE, REALLY."

They "KNOW" Oppa's straight, he "likes girls!" he "said it in an interview!"

They "KNOW" that Key and Jonghyun have every night after a performance. Because "Jongkey is ACTUALLY REAL."

It's like... HOLD YO HORSES.

Do you KNOW oppa in real life? Have you MET him? Has he TOLD YOU DIRECTLY that he's gay/straight?

NO. 

So WHAT makes you think that you have any right to judge and conclude that "He's definitely gay/straight"?

Nothing! 

"Amber is totally a lesbian."

"How do you know?"

"I dunno, like you can just tell!"

"Do you KNOW her?"

"Well no, duh, but it's so obvious!"

..

do you see how ridiculous that sounds?

I mean, first of all, so WHAT if they're gay? What's it to you? It's their own, personal business. Good for them, for realizing who they are! I wouldn't be upset nor excited if my bias ever came out, because it's HIS life decisions, and it's not like it affects ME in any way.

And then there's those fangirls who try to "prove that oppa's straight."

Like REALLY?

Again, WHO are you to judge them like that? 

Maybe they're straight, maybe they're gay, either way, YOU HAVE NO PLACE TO JUDGE, and secondly, it shouldn't matter anyway!

I repeat, there's nothing wrong with having your little OTP fantasies and whatnot, but when you start to ACTUALLY, LEGITIMATELY believe that your OTP or whatever is REAL?

C'mon, hun.

Be realistic.

Say you ship Haesica, and your friend ships Eunhae.

And you're both HARDCORE, RUTHLESS believers in your ships. Like DIE-HARD shippers.

The question is, which OTP is the real one?

NEITHER.

Why?

Because NONE of them ever told YOU in PERSON that they're a real couple.

What I'm basically getting at here is what you see on camera may or may not be what's real. Maybe you see oppa as straight, but in reality they have a boyfriend! Maybe you see oppa as gay for his bandmate, but in reality he may have a girlfriend! Either way, as his fans, we shouldn't judge him based on his onscreen actions, and support and love him either way.

I just felt like finally getting out MY say on the topic. I noticed on the last rant about fangirls submitted by one of my subscribers, a few of you were a bit disgruntled about the comment, so I thought I'd clear up the fact that THIS is my opinion, not THAT.

Tbh, whether my bias was gay or not, I wouldn't care, because I'd still love him to death.
It's his life, and as much as I know about Seungri, I really don't know about the REAL Seungri. I have no  idea about how he acts off camera, and I have no idea what his ual/romantic interests are. Of course, I shall always hope that he likes underaged Iranian-American fangirls ;D But that's besides the point..XD DON'T JUDGE OPPA, YOU REALLY DON'T KNOW THE REAL HIM AS MUCH AS THAT HURTS TO HEAR ; A ;
