Hot n´cold devil

Fayetteville, North Carolina. Siwon´s house. 13:35

Siwon did not expect things would come to this. But to be honest, he should have. Hyukjae and Donghae, after all, are naturally born troublemakers. And should we pick on the details, it was Siwon himself who invited his friends over to America for a short vacation and thoughtlessly told them the rumours about the Devil´s Tramping Ground.

“I don´t know, Donghae,” Hyukjae scratched his scalp, “this will probably not work.”

“Do you have any better idea how to trap the Devil, then?” Donghae raised his eyebrows, challenging his friend.

As always, it was Hyukjae who came up with the idea to catch the Devil and it was Donghae who got excited for no reason. Siwon was walking around, gathering camping utensils while the two of them were building a devil trap.

You see, about an hour of travelling by car, there is a camping ground in Bear Creek. It is said that on a certain place no grass nor plants grow, things left there are often thrown out, animals are scared to go near, and people feel too uneasy to stay there overnight. The reason for all these strange occurrences is said to be the Devil himself, walking around at night in circles, thinking deeply. Long story short, Siwon was the last person that wanted to sleep over in such a place. But what else could he do; his friends were unstoppable.

Bear Creek, North Carolina. Camp. 16:46

“We should have brought a shovel, the ground is hard,” Donghae sighed, waving with the trowel in his hand.

“It was your idea to bury a bowl,” Hyukjae was standing next to him with a gleeful expression.

The friends were in the camp, there was still time before the sunset, so they were getting ready for the hunt. Donghae was digging a hole in the so-called Devil´s Tramping ground to bury there a bowl he stole from Siwon´s kitchen. Hyukjae drew some weird pictures with a permanent marker inside the dish, letters they found with Donghae on the internet and his own interpretation of how a demon dog looks like. When Siwon inquired about the cute dog, he was told that this is the Devil´s true form. For sure.

When Siwon looked around, he felt nervous. Indeed, the grass in the clearing was darker, on same places the ground was burned and bare. It was autumn and a cold day, so the three friends were the only ones camping there. What a bad idea, Siwon thought.

Harper´s crossroads, North Carolina. Fast food restaurant. 17:37

Siwon felt so much better in the inhabited area, thirty minutes of walk from the camp. They were having dinner, Donghae and Hyukjae in good spirits.

“I can´t wait to see the trap,” Donghae mused, munching fries.

“I don´t know what you are so excited about, it won´t work,” Hyukjae snorted with a straw between his lips. He sipped from the coke and put the paper cup on the table. “If the Devil was this dumb to get caught in your bowl, he would have been caught ages ago.”

“Well, if you aren´t the smartest one, tell me your idea then,” Donghae challenged, stuffing his mouth.

“What we need is a proof, Donghae,” Hyukjae reasoned, sprawled in his seat, smirking. “We should film him.”

Siwon was listening to the conversation with interest. You have to understand, that he liked his two friends a lot. He missed them very much, or else he wouldn´t have asked them to come see him all the way here in the first place. He was grateful they agreed to travel across the globe for him, it was a tiring journey and they even brought him lots of chilli paste and all the good stuff he missed eating. Friends for life, cer
