Snow Kisses

Whichever Way

Jiyeon knew their date wasn’t exactly a perfect example of what a first date should be – not even close –, however, she didn’t expect to hear such harsh words coming from her shy companion. She felt her body tensing up, dishearten by the not so subtle rejection. Slowly, she took a step back, breaking the embrace she had kept Luda on ever since Sojung had tried to make her join the newspaper.

“From ‘a little’ to ‘I hope a bus runs you over’ on the hate scale, how much you hate me for our failed date?” The raven asked, a weak attempt of a smirk appearing on her face.

Luda, who was still focused on watching the girls leaving with Haru, only snapped out of it when she felt Jiyeon letting go off her, the warm feeling giving place to a sudden cold. She hugged herself. The older girl’s question made her frown slightly. “Hate?” Hate was definitely not the word to define her feelings for Bona, it would probably be something a lot more embarrassing like “puppy love”. “It’s not even on the hate scale. It wasn’t that bad…I guess. I mean, I have never broke into anywhere before, but we weren’t caught so is good, right?”

“What?” Jiyeon blinked in confusion. She was sure the other girl hated their date, but now Lee was giving her very different signals with that sweet smile of hers and her quick words. “But you said you could understand why all my dates fail now.”

Luda’s smile hesitated, embarrassment showing itself on her face. She hadn’t realized she had said it out loud. “Well, run away from security guards is not my favorite thing and I guess people wouldn’t be really into this, so…” She gave Jiyeon an apologetic look, fixing her glasses on her face nervously. “But I kind enjoyed it. Not the running part, the…Well, you tried to protect me all the way.”

It was Kim’s turn to furrow her eyebrows. “Of course, I was the one to bring you into this mess. I’d never leave you behind.”

“Yes, I guess, but…I don’t know that much about dates and I don’t even know why you picked me…And then I thought maybe you just wanted someone to use in some scheme to get a scoop…” Although her stuttering was giving her some time to communicate – perhaps because she felt more comfortable around Bona now –, her insecurities were and they weren’t making her love life any easier.

Bona’s eyes grew wider, an exclamation of protest leaving her. “Ei! I’m not that type of person!”

“But,” Luda looked at Jiyeon, determinate to make her understand how she truly felt. “You never let go of my hand and even earlier when we,” She blushed, biting down on her bottom lip as she tried her best to not avert her gaze. “We kind of hugged and you were all giggles and I didn’t know what to do, you were still trying to take care of me although you were so nervous about breaking in.”

Jiyeon shook her head. “I wasn’t nervous about entering that old building!”

“Then what? You have some kind of nervous habit? You should’ve told me before.” She was not one to question someone’s weird habits when she was living like a tomato half of the time.

“Er, sort of, I just figured out. Apparently only happens when I’m around you?” The raven tried, light pink covering her cheeks. “We were too close and even I get giddy sometimes.”

Albeit her blush was now all the way up her ears, Luda couldn’t help but smile at the sweet confession. “I get giddy around you all the time.” She admitted in a quiet voice, gaining confidence from the girl’s words. Jiyeon looked so endearing now, it was hard to associate her with the glamourous image she had when they first met – it was amazing that she was able to meet so many sides of the older girl in only a day, more than this, the fact that she felt excited at the thought of getting to know even more about her.

Jiyeon, on the other hand, was currently feeling very giddy due to the younger brunette’s words. Hyunjung and Sojung would’ve laughed if they could see how susceptible she was to anything Luda related, a smile or word was enough to make her feel insecure or happy. Maybe those two thieves were right, she indeed wanted Luda all of for herself and her anger over the whole issue was more related to having her journalist pride hurt in front of her crush and failing to impress her, than about losing the scoop.

The raven smiled, looking down at her feet, trying to hide her dumb grin. “I wasn’t just trying to get someone to help me, just so you know.”

Luda grimaced, mentally kicking herself. “I know. I’m sorry for thinking that, I’m just not…”

“Used to have people interested in you?” Jiyeon completed with an easy smile, making sure the brunette knew she wasn’t mad at her.

Luda blinked, before nodding slowly. They barely knew each other, but at the same time she felt like they could already read each other so well, once they could let go of all their bias, thing would flow smoothly.

“I guess I can understand…People are always interested in me, but it only lasts until they figure I’m a little too clumsy and not as cool as they thought.” She shrugged, trying to downplay what she just had said, albeit it was clear by the way her lips curved in a humorless smile that it was something that hurt her.

“But you are. You are so passionate about everything, so smart and brave…You are probably the coolest person I’ve ever met.” Luda didn’t even hesitate before saying, her words sounding so honest that it almost made Jiyeon’s weak heart even softer than it already was for the girl. However, Lee’s next words didn’t make her smile. “See? Doesn’t make sense you picked me.”

“Are you kidding me? You are way smarter than I’m! And you are brave too. And loyal, you could’ve dumped me when you got the chance, but you didn’t.” Jiyeon gave the freshman a piercing look. Luda’s insecurities needed to go away in order for them to enjoy their date – and all the other moments they were bond to share –, and she would make sure to kick them out of their way. “Besides you are ridiculously cute! I had my eyes on you from the moment I saw you, but you didn’t even made eye contact with me.”

Jiyeon was only proving Luda’s words right by being the best date she could possibly have asked for – flowers and fake chivalry were no match to Kim’s sincere words and her sweet gaze that sent Luda’s heart running crazy, but happy in her chest. Words weren’t supposed to affect her so much, but when combined with Jiyeon’s onyx eyes they were surely effective to boost her confidence. She took a small step, reaching out for the raven’s hand again. “I’m not good around beautiful girls, I was afraid you notice I was staring at you.” She confessed with a nervous giggle – now she was starting to understand Bona’s little nervous habit. Raising her gentle brown eyes to meet Bona’s darker ones, she smiled slightly. “The date was so not what I was expecting, but I enjoyed it because you were with me all the way.”

“This means this won’t be our last one?” Squeezing her hand gently, Bona returned the smile.

Luda nodded with a smile.

“Even if I decide to take you to explore the mystery of the ghost on the male dorm?”

The brunette made a face. “What about going to the movies before?”

Hugging the girl by the shoulders, the raven chuckled lightly. “It doesn’t sound that bad.”

Bona would have thought it was a nearly perfect moment for their first kiss. The moon was high in the sky, there was no one around making it seem like they were the only people in the world, and Luda even had that special sparkle in her eyes telling that it was the right moment to advance. Unfortunately, the weather had other plans.

Jiyeon had smiled, making her eyes send a clear message to the shorter woman before leaning in slowly…Only to receive a particularly cold snow flake on her face. She pulled back, blinking and looking up just to be hit by even more snow that seem to fall endlessly over them. After weeks without a single snowflake, now the nature decided to hit them with all it could and ruin her date.

Being someone who had a nearly perfect memory and was constantly reminded of the weather notifications she would get on her phone, it shouldn’t have shocked Luda to feel the cold snow hitting her bare face, but it did. Lee was so focused in her little moment with Jiyeon, her breath erratic and her heart jumping happily on her chest, immersed in the dark pools of the girl’s eyes, that it took her by surprised when the Kim pulled back. She blinked, feeling herself blush due to the embarrassment of a possible rejection, but soon the snow made its presence known and she gasped, unconsciously holding onto tight to Jiyeon’s coat. It was becoming a habit of hers to look for comfort and protection in the raven haired girl’s arms, even if Jiyeon couldn’t do much to prevent them from getting drenched by the sudden attack of the nature.

Kim hugged her back instinctively and they exchanged a smile. “What about we go for a run now?” Bona proposed with a mischievous look in her face. They both knew they would be drenched even before reaching the next building, running or not.

Taking her hand into hers, another thing that seem to be a new habit for her, Luda took the lead, running towards the closest building she could see. The snow made their skin cold and numb, still in that one point where their hands touch, she could still feel the warmth radiating, warming her body and her heart, and she couldn’t help but smile widely.

They reached the building quickly, the doors were closed – not a surprise – but the roof still was able to protect them if they made sure to stay under the little cover it provided. “It’s too bad it’s the first snow. If there was more of it we could have a snowball fight.” Luda said looking at the snow that still fell insistently, covering the ground and slowly turning it white. Taking off her beanie, she rung her fingers through her chestnut hair under Jiyeon’s gaze. “What?” She asked, feeling a little shy under such meticulous look.

Jiyeon smiled, one hand coming in contact with Lee’s hair to fix it gently. “You stopped stuttering.” Her smile was full of fondness, even a little bit of pride. They had come a long way in only a day.

Luda’s instinct was to avert her gaze, but she didn’t. “I only stutter when I’m nervous, you make me nervous, but is a different kind of nervousness.” Her voice was still low, even a bit shy, but it had a steed tread of confidence laced on it now, one that would only grow stronger. “A good type.”

“Like butterflies in your stomach and your heart racing? I know the feeling.” Now Bona’s smiled had turned into a grin, the girl clasping Luda’s small hand and bringing her closer. “I’ve never brought anyone with me in my work journeys before. Neither had I spent the first snow with someone I met on a blind date.” She played with the brunette’s fingers, taking a moment to gather courage to say what she wanted to. It was late night, and they were alone. The snow might have ruined their first moment, but perhaps it would help to create one even better. If she wasn’t brave enough now, when would she? That’s why she leaned in to ask. “I’ve never kissed anyone in the snow.” Her smile became uncharacteristically shy, her eyes expectant as she looked at the brunette. “What about we make of it another first time for us?”

Of all things, the last thing the freshman expected to hear was such suggestion. Although she was starting to get used to Jiyeon’s way to deal with things – different from her, the raven wasn’t afraid of taking the first step, just like she had done earlier by picking Luda out of all people and not caring about anyone else’s opinion, now she was once again being bold. Lee squeezed her hand a bit tighter, her eyes going from the beautiful white snow that still fell from the sky steadily, to Bona’s equally beautiful dark eyes that looked at her with expectancy and a glimpse of hesitation. Jiyeon was indeed brave, not because she had the courage to say and do that kind of thing, but because she still did it although she also had her own insecurities. “Neither have I.” She finally said, taking a deep breath so she could approach the raven even more to gently fix her beanie on the girl’s head. It was her turn to be brave.

Taking Kim by the hand, she stepped outside the safety of their cover, being instantly hit by the snow that sent a shiver down her body. She gasped, while Jiyeon left out a short chuckle of surprise. They exchanged a look and both laughed, sharing a light, warm feeling that not even the cold weather could affect.

For a moment they just stared at each with soft smiles and loving eyes, the awkwardness from before had completely vanished. Luda wanted to live every second of that experience, let it deeply craved into her memories, therefore she didn’t rush things. “I want it too.” She confided, hands still holding Jiyeon’s. She wanted to be Bona’s first snow kiss, just like she wanted the girl to be her first kiss– she wouldn’t tell her this much, at least not for now.

With a small nod, the raven proceed cupping Luda’s face between her hands, keeping her eyes locked on the girl’s as she slowly leaned in. Lee met her halfway, small hands involving her neck as the brunette pulled her in closer. Jiyeon smiled and it was with that smile still plastered on her face that their lips met, ever so lightly and soft, testing limits, getting to know each other.

Bona had kissed a couple of times before, most kisses didn’t have any special meaning failing to make her feel anything at all, this one, however, was a completely different experience. Luda’s lips on hers were a reflex of her personality, shy and maybe even a little awkward, but so incredibly sweet and captivating that Kim was having a hard time not making the contact deeper, trying to let the brunette lead. She caressed the girl’s face with her thumb, one hand touching her silky hair, and brushed her lips against hers just a little longer. The butterflies that roomed her chest earlier, were still there, hundreds of them flying happily, making Jiyeon feel so light and carefree as she focused on Luda as if nothing else mattered.

Luda didn’t remember how she had pictured her first to kiss to be, but she was pretty sure her imagination couldn’t surpass the reality of this moment. Her heart had been racing all day, yet now its beats were calm and gentle, just like their kiss; the pleasant warmth still filling her body and involving them like a protection spell that made her unable to feel the snow thawing against her skin and making her clothes wet. The scene of the two of them kissing under the snow was actually quite a beautiful view, but she wouldn’t dare to open her eyes, too engrossed in the feelings Jiyeon was giving her.

She wanted the girl closer, her small hands finding its way to Bona’s nape and staying there to caressed the soft skin underneath jet black hair. If pressing her lips lightly against the raven’s was already enough to make her heart flutter, she was tempted to try and make the kiss more intimate, albeit she wasn’t sure she could handle all the feelings it would bring. When Jiyeon made the contact just a little more intense, she sighed happily, completely into the moment. Her lips naturally opened, allowing Bona complete access as the kiss became deeper. The older girl’s actions were still slowly and gentle, considerate, giving time for Luda to back off – but she didn’t want to. She trembled when Bona’s tongue came into contact with hers, her hands ran through the raven’s hair, one of them still firmly on her neck making sure she couldn’t go anywhere else. If it was anyone else but Jiyeon, the confident and amazing Kim Jiyeon who had picked her out of everyone else and held her hand even in the weirdest moments, she could’ve hesitate or feel uncomfortable about it, but it was Jiyeon and there was no one else she would rather be with. Kim’s perfume – a subtle scent that captured her attention right away – was filling her lungs. Jiyeon tasted like strawberries and mint, a weird combination, yet so intoxicating that it made her dizzy – the best kind of dizziness, the one that made her head spin and her wish for the moment to never ending.

Jiyeon’s hands moved to Luda’s waist, supporting her better as the things intensify between them. She could tell the younger girl wasn’t very experienced, but it didn’t bother her at all, it was more like the opposite. They were slowly finding their rhythm, getting in sync as they savored each other and let their minds get drown by the sweet feelings. Sometimes the need for air would make them pull away, but they would be right back at it, exchanging gentle pecks, before kissing…Or they would have, it wasn’t an unexpected voice screaming at them.

“Hey, you two! You stole the mouse!” It was the old security guard that seem to finally realize he had failed yet another time in securing Haru from the hands of mischievous students. Fortunately for them, the old man’s legs weren’t as strong as his words and he was approaching in a speedy walking pace instead of running.

The girls were still close together and looked at the man in shock, a quick exchanged of looks was enough for them to know it was time to go. And just like all the other times that night, they run away together.

Many dates later

“I know you are doing it in purpose.” Luda complained without taking her eyes from their target to look at the raven haired woman who was not so subtly back hugging her. The duo was currently at a corner, keeping watch of an eerie hallway at the boys dorm, also known as the place where ghosts used to appear to haunt down poor students. Not that any ghost had bothered to show up yet.

“Doing what?” Bona gave her a sheepishly look, trying her hardest to muffle a laugh. Her giggles whenever her and Luda were too close were an weird phenome that didn’t seem to disappear, even after months of dating. Not that she minded it that much, yes it might be a problem when they need to stay in the low, but she loved the feeling it brought and perhaps it was even better than getting a new scoop to write about.

That first date had lead to numerous others – most of them were pretty normal ones, but some, Jiyeon’s favorites, were moments like this where Luda helped her try to get a new scoop and they just run around the campus acting like kids whenever they were discovered, and just like that first time, they were never really caught. Luda had eventually joined the campus newspaper as their new photographer – she at taking pictures, but was a pro at photoshopping them, what was the same thing as being a great photographer in Bona’s opinion, Hyunjung and Sojung seem happy enough to have someone new in the team to care. Although the smaller girl wasn’t as passionate about journalism as Bona was, she loved seeing how excited the Kim would get every time they were off to investigate something and this was enough motivation for her to join the girl.

Besides their little investigative moments, they also spent a fair share of time together. They didn’t have any classes together, yet they would always find a way to meet at lunch or to study together. On the weekends they would have fun dates at the movies – Luda loved that place and Jiyeon loved any chance of holding the brunette’s hand for two hours – or at Bona’s apartment, where they both would cook meals with different degrees of quality, but always with a lot of fun. As time passed, the connection that was there since day one, became stronger. They started to share not only these silly moments together, but also their daily struggles and deeper feelings, building trust.

So much trust that instead of stuttering, now Luda would just straight away nag her girlfriend for blowing their cover.

Luda gave a sharp look, pulling her closer just to whisper into her ear. “You are using work as an excuse to be clingy and putting us at risk with your little laugh. Again.” She was using her best scolding tone, what wasn’t very effective to the Lee’s dismay. Bona always seem to find everything she did cute, what was endearing and exasperating at the same time.

This time Jiyeon was unable to hide a light chuckle, leaving a kiss on the brunette’s head. Sometimes she just wanted to squeeze her girlfriend in her arms, but it would probably earn her a cold shoulder instead of sweet kisses. “I’m sorry that you are too cute and I can’t keep my hands off you?”

The shorter woman snorted, but there was an undeniable pleased look on her face. They both knew she also wanted those kisses. “Then do it when we are off duty!” The brunette tried to keep her serious instance, what was hard when she had Jiyeon’s dazzling smile directed to her. Would she ever not be affected by the Kim? Probably not, but it wasn’t like it was a bad thing. Bona and her might be an odd couple, but no one could deny that they were a very good one. “We can go to your place after this…And don’t even make the joke I know you want to make!”

She actually had more than just one joke she could’ve made, yet she just forced an innocent look on her face before snickering. Bona hugged her girlfriend tighter, her chin on Luda’s shoulder. “Then let’s catch this ghost already!”

That night they didn’t catch any ghosts, only a sleep walking student trying to pee on a plant and falling over it instead – it was still a scoop, but a much less fun than an actual ghost would’ve been.

But Bona would still consider it a very good night, considering Luda and her went home together and she could be as clingy as she wanted for the rest of the night as they watched animes and ate ice cream together, cuddling before falling asleep. Actually, for both of them, it couldn’t be any more perfect.
