07. A Day With You 

Just a minute ago, Ha Neul made me try a hideous-looking orange T-shirt. It has this silly sentence printed on it with a black, bold font. It says ‘I’m Innocent... And I’m Proud.’ Well. That’s just so banana-ly not cool. She picked out so many shirts, t-shirts, pants, et cetera. From plain, to plaid, to polka-dots, and even animal-printed for me!

She kept on making this happy-go-lucky face and nags at me. ‘Kris! Try this!’ and ‘It’s cute! Buy it!’ and even ‘You look handsome in everything! Buy all of them! Buy!!’

Okay... I’m not saying that I wasn’t happy. I’m just saying that this girl is out of her mind. She’s so lost in her own world and I had to follow her here, there, and everywhere! I’m a man who can wait forever, but this... this is slowly eating me up....

“Kris! Let’s buy a new cellphone!”

“What? For who?”

She stopped searching through the rack of clothes and turned around to look at me. Finally... You have got to stop doing that, Ha Neul!

“For you. So it would be easier for me to contact you. Even when we’re far apart! I’ll teach you how to use it later. Now, follow me!”

She dashed her way to a gadget store. The shop-keeper greeted us and Ha Neul immediately said that she wanted the newest phone that’s available in the moment. All her life, I guess she’s always surrounded by money.

I waited for her in the corner of the store. Whistling to myself... Well, that’s better than doing nothing or just staring at other people. Like how they were staring at me. Okay, Kris.. remember what you taught to yourself yesterday. You’re just too charming for the human’s eyes. That’s it. Simple.

But still, I felt like killing them right at that moment. Or just simply stab them on their eyes. I know, that sounds cruel. But trust me, If you were me, you wouldn’t like the look they give you either.

“Kris! Here’s your new phone!”

I saw a petite girl walking happily towards me. Her eyes were filled with joy when she gave me a white small device and a plastic bag with a fruit logo. What was the brand’s name again? I don’t know. All I could think of was that it sounded delicious. I wondered if maybe the phone was edible..

“Thank you, Ha Neul. But can you eat this?”

“No, silly.” She punched my arms playfully and grabbed my hand.

“Since you finished your shopping spree. Now it’s my time to do the shopping!”

NO!! No way. No way...!!

“...Ha Neul-ah, aren’t these enough?”

I nudged her arms and pointed at the shopping bags we were carrying. There were five of them, and all of them were the biggest size the mall provides. But this girl... Now she’s telling me she wanted to buy more?

“Nope. They are not enough!”

What the elf?

She walked into a small boutique, with not many people inside. I followed her slowly... I wanted to jump from the escalator at that moment, but I shooed the idea away. That’d be very scary...

She picked out something from the display window. I guessed it was something revealing. Oh... This should be interesting. Shouldn’t it?

“Tell me what you think about it.” She dragged me into the fitting area but quickly closed the door to the fitting room.

This girl.. “Surprise me.” I whispered softly.

Something about her makes me want to lose control you know. If I were Tao, I don’t know what kind of things I would be doing to this clumsy girl. But thankfully, I’m Kris! I’m someone you can trust and someone who will guard you til the last drop of his blood. Never will I be traiting my own friend by tainting him nor her with my desire—whoa..........

I felt like shouting out all the fruit names I knew when she came out from the fitting room.

“So... what do you think?” She smiled and made a playful twirl. Unaware of what might happens if she make a tiny mistake... and that small little piece of clothing slide off from its place.

I took out my new cellphone and took a picture of her.

“You look, ehh... y?”

She blused and rapidly closed the door. Ahaha, you shy little creature. Trying to flirt with me but unfortunately failed eh? But no problem.. You managed to charm me with your cuteness though. No matter what, you’re still a young little shy lady. And it will never change for me.

She walked out from the room with the dress in her hands without looking at me. I guess she was very embarrassed... Ah, what a fascinating girl. She called out for me and we got out from the shop.

“Did you buy that dress?” I asked her. Note; I was just experimenting.

“Y-yes. Why?”

“Good then.” I smirked. But actually, I was holding my breath because if I wasn’t, I’d probably laugh very hard. Seeing her flustered, yet humiliated face was quiet an amusement.

She pulled my hand and dragged me inside a peaceful cafe. She said that she was thirsty, then she ordered a cup of Hot Caramel Latte. Weird, it was quite warm that day, so instead of ordering something similar, I ordered an Iced Chocolate.

She smiled awkwardly, “Yah.. Kris, how old are you, actually?”

I looked straight in her eyes, “I am twenty-two. Why did you ask?”

“Uhh.. That means you’re older than me. So I should really start calling you ‘Oppa’.”

What? What’s that?It sounds so weird...

“’Oppa’ what?”

“You know. Here, in South Korea, younger girls call older boys using ‘Oppa.’ Since I’m currently seventeen now.. I guess I should call you ‘Kris Oppa.’”

Hmm...“Try calling me.”

“Kris Oppa.”

“With a softer tone.”

She smiled, “Kris Oppa~.”

“This time, make it sound like I am someone you longed for.”

Heheh, smart Kris.

 I saw her squirming before answering me with a soft, shy, yet motherly voice, “Kris... Oppa~”

I was going to ask her to call me in a flirty voice, but never mind.

The drink came and we both took a sip of them. I looked at her, “And, how does older boy call younger girls in South Korea?” I smiled to her.

“Hmm... Dongsaeng!” What? That sounds even weirder!

“So.... Ha Neul Dongsaengie?” I scracthed my eyebrow. Okay, that’s just too long to pronounce so I immediately added, “Han-Saengie?”

She giggled, “Nah. Ha Neul is fine. And both of them sounds weird, Kris Oppa.”

Call me Kris Oppa again! Again! “Okay. I’ll call you Ha Neul only then. Can you call me one more time?”

She raised her eyebrows, “Kris Oppa......” Gosh, that felt like an eargasm. I wanted to touch her cheeks, but suddenly I could feel her body stiffened, so I pulled my hand back.

Huh?

“S-S-Se Hun Oppa?”

Wait. I’m Kris, not Se Hun. Or was she looking at somewhere else? I turned my head around and saw a familiar figure walking inside the cafe. Oh Se Hun? That guy? The one I was supposed to kill but failed because of the promise I made to this girl?

“Oh! Hi there, Ha Neul... and?” He looked at me questioningly.

“Kris.” I answered coldly.

The fact that he was Ha Neul’s crush made me feel a little bit disturbed by his presence. I don’t know why. But I just felt that way. Maybe because I know that Ha Neul has some special feelings for him. And I don’t know whether she had some for me too, or not.

What are you thinking about, Kris? Stop it.

“Mind if I join?” Se Hun asked Ha Neul and flashed her an eye-smile. Yeah, he only asked her. And both of them totally ignored me. Ha Neul nodded as Se Hun sat down between both of us.

That was the time that I realized; I do mind, if you just poof out of nowhere and steal her attention away. I do mind, Se Hun.

The boy and the girl had a one-on-one conversation. I listened to them because I had to. Not because I wanted to. The way Se Hun smiles at her, the way Ha Neul’s cheeks redden every time he saysomething sweet.

I don’t like it.

I don’t like him around her.

I don’t like how Se Hun disliked the idea of me, staying at Ha Neul’s place.

Oh! For God’s sake, who the shark are you, Boy?

And I have to say this........

That I regretted it.

For not taking his soul away.
