#Excerpt 2: Neighbor

In all honesty, Wendy wasn’t exactly thinking much of her neighbor until she met her again this morning. She was just back from a morning jog when they bumped into each other in the apartment’s elevator with the other woman carrying her groceries for breakfast. They engaged in a small talk, then Wendy offering to help the older girl from carrying her groceries into having breakfast in her neighbors apartment. When Irene, her finally named neighbor that she only met the first time after four months, went to the bathroom, she finally realized something.

Her apartment was just next door and somehow it’s weird only seeing her neighbor now when they’ve practically live next to each other for four months.

“You look like you’re totally bewildered about something…” Irene noted when she got out, stealing a slice of apple that Wendy peeled for her in the kitchen.

“Not really.”

When Irene gave her a look, the younger girl finally chuckled, scratching the back of her neck sheepishly.

“It’s just… since we’re practically next to each other and since our bathrooms were on opposite sides of the same wall… we probably would’ve sometimes showered at the same time? Sing duets probably? Without the two of us meeting yet?”

Irene laughed. “So that’s what you were thinking deeply about while I was in the bathroom?”
