It’s already past midnight and I am still studying. I’m so sleepy that my eyes were going to fall off the ground, so I decided to take a short walk outside wearing my favorite hoodie. I went to the convenience store just across my house and bought some coffee and food for my starving tummy.

I am a bit introverted and decided to look for a place without much people and saw the playground nearby. I was sitting on a bench while watching people passed by. And this, sobbing girl was running like crazy and stopped at the swing.

She looked somewhat familiar. Is she from my school? I’m just watching her from afar.

“Life must’ve been tough for her.” I shrugged as I do not like meddling to people’s business. I still can hear her cries from my spot she’s somewhat yelling or something.

My feet have their own minds and found myself walking towards her and sat on the swing beside her. She’s talking to herself. To my surprise, I didn’t expect that she’s the one crying. My long time crush.

She’s very popular even though people being a loser because of the way she styles herself but, she’s beautiful in my eyes even though with her nerdy glasses on. It really amazed me, and it hurts me seeing her in this state.

“I’m so tired of being me. I’m so tired getting controlled by others. I hate this. I hate myself. I’m so unappreciated.” she said. It’s sad to think that there’s still some people who’s unappreciated behind them being so awesome. I know this is not the right time to confess nor say any word and I don’t have the guts, but my freaking mouth betrayed me.

“That’s not true. There’s always someone who appreciates you. You just got to look closely.” Sht. She was shocked. She’s going to run, she might think I’m a creep. I better get home; my heart was beating crazy!

I stood up and immediately faced my back at her I didn’t want her to see me. I’ll be mysterious and cool for now.

“You’re awesome. Please remember that.” I walked away with my heart pumping madly.

“I can’t believe I did that! I am so awesome!” I told myself, I deserved this! I cannot fight this giddy feeling.

I stayed inside the convenience store and keeps on repeating the scenario in my head. You might think I am gay for doing this but, it’s really the best! Is this a premonition that I’m going to have a great first day in school? It’s refreshing!

Still having butterflies in my stomach as I ate a bunch of thugs came into sight. They pushed him hardly causing him to fall out of balance and lay his on the floor. That guy looks familiar as well, I think he’s from Section One. A guy wearing a long pullover and tattered pants caught me looking at them and mouthed, “뭐? Mwo? What?”

I tried not to care this time because I had such a good evening already and I don’t want it to be ruined. But then, they punched him simultaneously before taking his wallet. I really hate these bunch of @$$. I headed out without thinking twice and threw a punch on their gang leader.

“You bastard!” he cursed,

And in that moment, I knew I’m doomed! His punch landed right on my face and I fell. I received another punch on the other side and supposedly to receive another punch fortunately, authorities and the guy I helped came to sight.

They ran away as they heard the whistle of the policemen.

“Are you okay?” He asked worriedly and helped me to stand. I looked at his state and it was so terrible. His shirt was a ripped and the right side of his eyeglasses were cracked. I smiled.

“I’m fine, here.” I took of my hoodie and gave it to him. “wear this, it’s cold.” I talked to the policemen to send him home and I called Hyojong to come over, since I know he always sleeps late.

“Thank you…” He paused for awhile waiting for me to say my name.

“Yong.” I answered shortly.

“Thank you, Yong. I am…” he was about to say his name, but the policeman called him. “thank you again. I hope to see you again and give this hoodie back to you.”

As soon as I saw him walked in the police patrol I began to complain in pain.

“Ugh! What the! I never been into fist fighting in my whole life.” I messed my hair in frustration. I pouted to myself, my hoodie. Good bye, so does this mean a bad first day in school? I’m confused!

I crouched under the tree while waiting for Hyojong, I refused the help of the cashier at the store because I was embarrassed to be in this state.

He nagged as soon as he arrived. “형! 어디갔어? (Hyung, where did you go?) 니 얼굴이 왜 그래? (What happened to your face?)” he added.

“나 형인데. (I’m the hyung.)” I said sarcastically,

“네네네. (Yes Yes Yes)” he assisted me to stand up and he wanted us to go inside the convenience store where the incident took place.

“It’s nothing, I found someone being bullied I thought he needed some kind of help so, yeah.” A stupid move.

“I don’t get it, why do you get into fights when you cannot even lift a finger to someone who’s bad mouthing you. Aish, 진짜! (really!)” I glared at him, why is he nagging so much?

“Let’s find another store.” I stubbornly suggested and walked at the next alley where the second nearby store located.

“Wait, why are you not wearing that hoodie? It’s your jinx, it’s our first day in school tomorrow! Aishhh, I’m getting crazy.” I’m too lazy to tell the story, Hyojong. -.-

“I think I just found my Star.” The giddy feeling is here again. He looked at me in disgust.

“Eh? Did you knock your head off or something?” I didn’t answer. I’m glad I helped her in my own way.

“I can’t stand talking with this man already. I might end up like him.” He mumbled coherently. I glared at him again and he stuck his tongue out. I really can’t believe I am friends with this guy. Sigh.

“Anyway, I heard there’s new transferee in our class tomorrow. He’s a guy! Maybe, we could add him into our little group, huh? Huh? What do you think?” My head is aching not because of the pain but because of his talking.

“Alright, as you wish.” He’s grinning from ear to ear and continues to tell his story about how JiEun saved him from a frog.
