Green Mangoes
Jaedy Pill"Hon." Dara coed, massaging his arms. "Buy me green mangoes."
Jae looked at his wife, his eyes getting wider in disbelief. "Will you please repeat what you just said."
She rolled her eyes and eyed her husband as if he has grown dumb.
"I want green mangoes." She said in her sweetest pleading voice.
Jae pointed at the bedside clock. "It's 1:28 a.m." Then he pointed at the window. "Can you even see through our snow covered window?"
Dara followed Jae's fingers and nodded. "But I still want my green mangoes."
He smiled and placed his arms around her shoulders, offering what he hoped was a better deal. "How about I cook your favorite adobo?"
Jae smiled in relief when Dara's eyes brightened but it was wiped off his handsome face as soon as it appeared.
She clapped her hands in delight. "Okay, I want that for breakfast." Then she added with a pout. "I still want those green mangoes."
If there's one thing that he absolutely hates, it was this. Dara's cravings, it always manages to come at the most ungodly hour.
But he loves his wife. A little inconvenience would never put an end to their love story.
And so he reluctantly stood up and quickly dressed to brave the winter cold. He once again sat at the edge of the big warm bed, forced himself to stay awake and prayed that Dara already changed her mind.
Don't get him wrong, it’s not like he hates getting what his wife wants. But please remember that its winter, it's probably below zero degrees outside. And not to mention it's already too late in the evening or rather a too early in the morning.
Where in Korea can he find green mangoes? As far as he knows mango trees don't bear fruits in winter.
