I didn’t even know why he was being so awkward. I honestly didn’t know that we’d end up in the same precinct working together. Now, I would have to investigate him and report him and that was creepy as hell. But, I was fine with that. I knew for a fact that he wasn’t corrupt and I could bank on that judgment for the rest of the month.

I heard the roar of his engine in the distance and I wondered what dinner would be like. We basically lived together now. We alternated between the two apartments every other week. If it did get awkward at work, at least, I could still run to my own apartment.  The nervousness about fitting into a new work place was killing me and I wasn’t ready to take it on. Faria kept texting me, asking me to give her updates about the “love situation” and it was beginning to freak me out even more.

“A-Ri,” Hyun Woo called me, really loudly.

I snapped out of my day dream. He was on the motorcycle, holding his helmet in his hands, looking at me really intensely. I stared back at him and I just really wanted to hug him. He pursed his lips before waving his hand at me.

“Are you okay?” He mouthed, and I just hugged him, without thinking about it. “Okay, you seem… not okay. Let me get you home. We’ll talk…”

“I’m okay. I’m just tired,” I said, unintelligibly, into his shirt.

“I totally understood everything you just said,” he joked. “Come on. Sit in the back.”

I broke away from the hug and took my helmet off the back and put it on, before taking my seat behind him. I wrapped my arms around his torso and leaned my head on his back. It was a bit uncomfortable but I was too tired to care.

Once we got home, I took a shower and changed into pajamas while Hyun Woo said he’d come over in an hour. So, I just lay down on the couch and started browsing through my feed. I was exhausted. It wasn’t physical, but mental exhaustion. The nervousness had made me all jittery.

I heard the door lock click and then a resounding “Hey I’m home.”

“On the couch,” I responded. We sounded like a married couple. He rested on his elbows on the couch and looked down at me with a grin. He’d showered, too, judging from his wet hair. He was wearing a lilac sweatshirt. “What?”

“Nothing, just looking at you,” he said, and winked. He clasped his hands together and just stood there.

“I’ll kick you,” I half threatened him.

“Fine, I’ll come there and stare you.”

He forced me to get up and lay down with my head on his lap. “How’d you like the precinct?”

“It’s nice. But, your HR folks are a damn mess. I had to figure out most of the work by myself until the head of the department came along. He’s resourceful and he’s handsome as hell.”

“Mr. Kang?” He asked me, my hair.

“Yeah, that would be him.”

“He’s really funny, too. When you meet him, ask him about American politics. He’ll have you in stitches,” he told me.

“I’ll do that, then,” I assured him. “How was your day?”

“Sad, that’s what it was. We spoke to the victim’s family and they’ll come over by tomorrow,” he told me, patting my head.

“Man, I can’t wait to work this case and hate life,” I said, sarcastically.

“I know you can’t. Plus, you have no other option and neither do we,” He told me, patting my back.
