Summer Blues

Your Hopes and My Dreams

She hated Summer. The hot sun burning her skin, the skimpy clothing that people felt the need to wear, down to all the bugs. Gagging at the thought of them crawling around, she shivered as she folded her arms over her chest. Sighing she got the courage to approach her parents that were packing their belongings. Taking a seat on their bed, she quietly watched them go to and fro. Clasping her hands together, she waited until they noticed her presence.

"Why aren't you packing baby girl," her father asked as he placed his shirts into his suit case.

She shrugged as her mother called out from the closet, "Minzy if you're all packed please go check on your brothers to make sure they are packed as well."

Sighing she figured it was now or never as she finally had the guts to say what was on her mind, "Can I stay back?" Both parents suddenly stopped in their tracks to stare in disbelief at her. "I...I don't want to go...I mean, I feel more comfortable here at home."

"Honey," her mother cooed as she quickly came to her side and embraced her. "Are you still not over what happened last Summer?"

She bit her lower lip as she tried to push away the incident her mother was referring to, "Does it matter?! Please don't make me go. I can stay with Bom or CL and...and I can get a Summer job to save up for college."

"Baby girl we can't just leave you here for three long months," her father added. "You already know that when the time comes we will be payin for your college. I don't want my children to start working until they've all received the best education to prepare for life." Minzy knew better than to throw in the Summer job, but she had hoped it would help sway them. Inwardly groaning, she was regretting that her family was well off at the moment. "Now forget all your excuses," her father continued, pulling her up onto her feet and leading her towards the door. "Go on and get packed before I have your mother come and pack for you," he teased earning a smack on his arm.

"I packed one bad bag and you continue to hold it over my head," her mother hissed in annoyance.

"How about every time we ask you to pack for us you pack what you think we should wear," Minzy shook her head as she walked towards her room. Frowning as she closed her bedroom door, she plopped face down onto her bed and groaned loudly.

Minzy placed her dark shades onto her eyes as she then placed her headphones over her ears. Drowning out the chaos of everyone trying to play tetris, she leaned her head upon the window and dozed off.

Before she knew it, she felt something tickling her face. Trying to wack at the distrubance, she paused her music and heard giggling. Rolling her eyes, she quietly sat and listened for the movement around her and quickly caught the feather as she snapped her eyes open to see her brothers laughing. Glaring at the pair of immature boys, she tossed the feather out the window before crossing her arms over her chest and falling back asleep once again.

Minzy was awoken by the sudden shaking and chattering of her younger brother. "Wake up! Wake up! Wake up," he sounded like an annoying parrott that she swatted away once she came to.

Yonning as she gazed out the window, she frowned looking at her family Summer home. It looked just like she remembered. Tumbling out of the car behind her brothers, she stretched and yond from the long drive. Inhaling the fresh air, she grabbed her belongings before heading to the house. Opening the front door, she quickly retreated to her room. Tossing her bags onto the floor, she jumped onto her bed and embraced the comforting blankets. Nuzzling onto the softness of her bed, she ignored her family who went about bringing the rest of the items in.

Awaking to the shifting of her bed, she slowly opened her eyes to see her mother smiling down at her, "Dinner is ready."

"Thanks," she yond as she shuffled off her bed and slowly followed her mother down to the dinning room. There sat the rest of her family, her two brothers being impatient as always with their father eyeing both boys just in case one tried to sneak some food into their mouths. Taking her seat, she extended her hands out and bowed her head with the rest of them, blessing their food before they all started to dig in.

"So I was thinking," her older brother began as he stuffed his mouth full. "Could me and my syblings head into town tomorrow?"

"I don't want to," Minzy cut in adding her two cents before things could go any further.

"Minzy please," her baby brother tugged onto her shirt unknowing of their oldest brother's intentions.

But Minzy knew better as she shook her head, "I'm okay..."

She felt her oldest brother kick her shin as he glared at her, "C'mon it'll be fun."

Reaching down to rub her leg she glared right back, "I...don't...wanna...go...Jiyong!"

"Who will I hang out with then," her little brother reminded her.

Sighing as she realized that the younger brother was indeed wise enough to read between the lines, she frowned. "Bobby and I would like to go into town please." Her words were forced as she hated how their older brother always got the youngest to bate her into doing what he wanted.

"I guess, if that's what you guys want to do. You can take the car," their father said nodding in approval as he continued to eat.

Minzy dreaded the fact that they were going into town. She wasn't ready to face the people she hadn't seen since they last left last Summer. But here she was, riding in the back seat as her brother drove them into town. As the car came to a halt, she watched as Jiyong jumped out of the car and tossed the keys towards her. "Have fun," he wiggled his eyebrows at her before turning to head into the diner.

Disgusted as her brother grasped his Summer time lover and began eating her face, she quickly placed her hands over Bobby's eyes, "Don't look, you'll be scared for life." Shaking her head, she moved to the driver seat and buckled up. "Where should we go?" It was quiet and she couldn't help but gaze over to her little brother who seemed conflicted with telling her where he wanted to go. "Bobby?"

"Uh...it's up to you," he shrugged as he avoided her gaze. Cursing under her breath, she knew damn well where he wanted to go. Putting the car in drive, she quietly drove off from the town diner. Within minutes, she drove them to the place he wanted to be. "Yes," he gleefully cheered as he stared out the window. "You know that I love you right," he gave her a small grateful smile when the car came to a stop. Watching as her brother raced off to the dock, she grinned as she turned off the car. Her heart nearly lept out of her chest as her care free brother lunged into the air and dove head first into the water. Quickly hoping out of the car, she was on her feet awaiting her brother's reappearance. Sighing deeply as he broke through the water and cheered. He waved for her to come over as he began to swim in the big blue ocean. Shaking her head for her mini panic attack, she made her way onto the sandy beach and took a seat at the top just barely out of the water's reach. Wrapping her arms under her knees, she pulled them up to her chest to sit and watch Bobby swim amongst the rippling waves.

Grateful for the spare towel she grabbed from the car, she placed it over her upper body to cover up as much as she could. She didn't want to burn that quickly, it was the first day of a long Summer. Closing her eyes she listened her brother splash around in big body of water that surrounded him. In the midst of doing so, she didn't realize that she had fallen asleep.

Falling and twirling in every which direction. She felt herself going deeper and deeper.

Gazing up and feeling the shock and disbelief of what was happening she wondered.

How deep is it?

The blurry rays of light were fading as she began to lose consciousness.

Gapsing for air, she sat up and clutched onto her chest feeling her heart pounding. Brushing the sweat off of her brow, she looked around and found herself alone. "Bobby," she shot up and looked around. "Bobby," she called out louder as she raced down towards the big blue ocean. "Bobby," she found herself nearly in tears as she headed into the water. But before she could do so, she came to a crashing halt. Stumbling into an abrupt stop, she was caught in strong arms before she could fall into the water. Clinging tightly onto the person, she was relieved to be gently placed back onto the ground. "Thank..." she became speechless as she stared at the person before her. She was in disbelief as she reached out and cupped the familiar face, it was real. Gasping at the dazzling smile, she pulled back out of fear. Gazing down she felt her jaw drop, confused at what was happening. "I..."

"Minzy do you know him," her baby brother reappeared.

"," she cursed when she remembered she was looking for him. "Bobby where were you," she hissed as she took hold of his wrist. "I was worried!"

"Sorry," Bobby frowned. "I was skipping rocks when this guy asked to join in."

She looked over to the young man who continued to hold a dazzling smile that Minzy felt was a little too dazzling that it kind of freaked her out. Pulling her brother by her side she softly whispered, "You shouldn't talk to strangers."

"But we're not strangers," his deep voice boomed causing Minzy to jump a little. Gazing over to the stranger, she eyed him suspiciously. "We met last Summer."

She scoffed as she shook her head, "No we didn't."

"We did," he nodded as he pointed out towards the ocean. "We met there."

Her jaw nearly came unhinged as she stared wide eyed at him, "No."

"Yes," he smiled and nodded. "It's just like you remembered it too," he winked as he pluckered his lips at her for a mere second as if to .

His words brought the flooding memories of last Summer to her mind. Flashes of her swimming and enjoying the great vast ocean, to her becoming overwhelmed by the sudden shift of the smooth flowing waters to rough crashing waves. Twirling and tumbling, not being able to fight the current that pulled her further and further into the dark depths of the ocean. She left herself losing it before...

"This doesn't make any sense," she grumbled as she was pulling her brother to leave. "It can't be," she told herself as she released her brother to move over to the driver's seat. "Holy..." she was startled by the stranger's sudden appearance by the car. "You scared me," she hissed as she had her hand over her chest as if to keep it from jumping out of her chest.

"Don't go," he pleaded with the deepest of blue eyes she had ever seen. She felt like she was in a trance as she saw the ocean glimmering in his eyes.

"I...I have to..."

"Come for dinner," her little brother chimed in. "My parents would most likely want to thank you for saving my sister's life."

"Bobby," she snapped. Turning back to the stranger who seemed to be a little too close for comfort, she shfited back and grinned. "Umm...if you're not doing anything..."

"I'd love to," he spoke smoothly it was like he was singing some type of bewitching melody.

"Hop in, we'll drive you to our place," Bobby waved for him to take the passenger seat as he hopped into the back seat. Minzy was stunned at what was happening as she quietly watched the stranger with the bluest of eyes move to get into the passenger seat. Contemplating on what to do, it was her younger brother who helped her along the way. "Let's go. We don't have all day!"

Sighing, she hopped into the car and did her best to avoid gazing in the direction of the stranger before she was hypnotized again. "We gotta go pick up Jiyong before we head back."

"I don't remember seeing him that much last Summer," the stranger spoke up.

Minzy glanced back at her brother through the rear view mirror and watched as he ran his motor mouth. "Jiyong was too busy making out with his girlfriend to really do anything else."

"Girlfriend," the stranger asked as if he didn't know what that was.

"You know, a female or girl that is a special friend," Bobby explained borrowing the words Minzy had used to help explain what Jiyong was doing last Summer.

"Special friend? What makes her a special friend," the stranger turned to question the young boy.

Amused of the silly questions, Minzy quietly obsevered the conversation as she drove. "She's special because they share kisses," Bobby said in a questioning manner as he looked to his older sister for help.

"Oh, so...Minzy is my girlfriend," the stranger asked to clarify what the young boy was getting at.

"What," both Minzy and Bobby gasped in unison.

"Wait a minute..."

"You kissed my sister," Bobby stuck out his tongue and shook his head.

"We didn't..." the memories came flashing back. She was losing consciousness, when she felt a different pull other than the currrent. Strong arms were wrapping around her as she was pulled into someone's bare chest. Through blurry eyes, she saw glowing blue eyes. Blinking back the water, she floated in awe before she felt the warmth of lips placed upon her very own.

"Watch out," her brother shouted calling her attention to the road as she dodged the oncoming car and moved back into her lane.

She quickly pulled over and jumped out of the car, leaning upon her knees as began to heave. She felt the ground shake and everything seemed to spin as she felt light headed. Caught in the arms of the stranger, she fluttered her eyes up and gazed at his full plump lips. He was mouthing something, but it fell upon deaf ears as she remembered how they felt. Warm. Soft. Sweet. She wondered if they felt the same, many things were running through her mind as her younger brother came into view.

"Minzy are you okay," her brother's voice echoed as she felt herself being gently placed back onto her feet.

She looked over to see the stranger with the bluest of eyes and delicious tasting lips wrapping a strong arm around her waist. It seemed like it was nothing to him, holding her up against him. Flesh to flesh with him, she remembered that he had chisled washboard abs. The thought of them made her cheeks heat up as she began to fan herself with her hand.

"Bobby come here," she waved him to come. Shifting away from the stranger who was making her feel all types of ways, she moved over to lean against her brother. "Help me to the car and you can sit in the back seat," she called over her shoulder as she eased back into the driver seat. Grateful that the stranger didn't put up a fight. She had Bobby sit up front to help her stay focused enough to get back to the diner. Parking the car, she sighed relieved to have made it back to the diner.

"What took you guys so long," Jiyong grumbled as he pulled open the driver door.

"We met Minzy's boyfriend," Bobby said as he nodded to the back seat.

"Boyfriend," Jiyong stiffened as he leaned over to look at the back seat.

Minzy waved her hands and shook her head, "He's not my boyfriend."

"But you guys kissed," Bobby interjected.

"Bobby," Minzy barked as she turned to glare at him. "No it's not like that," Minzy tried to explain to see her older brother quickly moving to open the stranger's door. "He saved my life," Minzy called out. "He was doing CPR not kissing me," she hoped her hot headed brother would hear. He always had a temper, especially when it came to his family. He felt being the oldest boy he had to be the main protector, but Minzy felt at times it was like the main overwhelmer. Rolling her eyes, she was at her brother's side tugging on his shirt. "Calm down, he saved my life and we wanted to take him to meet mom and dad."

"He's a pretty boy, " Jiyong sized him up as he eyed him suspiciously.

Sighing at her brother's observation, she closed the back seat door again and rolled her eyes, "And you're a hot headed pretty boy what's new?"

Shaking his head, Jiyong moved into the the driver's seat, "Well hurry up and get in so we can take your pretty boy to meet mom and dad."

Minzy felt her stomach do flips as she stood by the car. The only option she had was to sit next to the stranger who seemed to make her tense up and act all weird. Hissing as if she wasn't weird enough, she made way into the car knowing very well that Jiyong's temper could flare up if she took any longer. Moving to where she was leaning up against the door, she kept as much distance as possible. Closing her eyes, she focused her attention on her breathing to help calm her racing thoughts and heart.

"Minzy," Jiyong called her name and she gazed up to see her brother staring at her with a weird expression on his face. Why was he giving her accusing eyes?

Becoming aware of her surroundings, she was laying in the back seat. But she wasn't laying on the chair, she was laying on someone's lap. Feeling a small squeeze on her hand, she looked to see that her fingers were intertwined with the owner who's lap she was laying upon. Gazing up she felt her cheeks heat up to see the smile that dazzled brightly down at her. "Don't fight your memories," he simply said as he helped her sit up.

"Oh," was all she found herself saying as she sat up. Feeling light headed seemed to be the theme of the day as she glanced over at the smiling stranger. "Minzy," Jiyong spoke through gritted teeth. Confused by his anger, she followed his gaze to see that she was still holding the stranger's hand. Pulling her hand away, she held it in the other hand and turned to give her brother an apologetic smile. "Sorry..."

"Uh huh," Jiyong hummed curious to what was really going on.

Minzy felt self conscious as she followed her older brother into the house. She could feel the stranger's gaze burning into the back of her that she couldn't help but tremble. Shaking off the thought, she grinned when she saw her parents sitting at the dinning table. "You guys are late," their mother eyed them awaiting an explanation.

"We ran into..." Bobby was nudged by Minzy who gave him a knowing look. "We ran into Minzy's friend."

"Yeah, friend," Jiyong said unconvinced that this guy was just a friend.

Minzy rolled her eyes as she looked to her parents, "He was the guy who saved me from drowning."

Their mother gasped as she suddenly moved onto her feet and embraced the young man, "You sweet boy! Thank you so much for saving our baby girl!"

"Please come and join us for dinner," their father gestured for him to take a seat while he went to find another chair.

"What's your name, young man," their mother asked as she guided him to an open seat.

"My name is Suga," he smiled as he gazed over to Minzy as if he was saying it specifically to her. This gesture had her feeling giddy as she found herself sitting next to him.

"Almost sounds like sugar," Jiyong teased as he sat across from him.

"Sugar sweet," their mother said softening the blow.

Minzy nodded as she found the word sweet relating to Suga's lips. Pausing at the thought, she sighed as she tried to clear her mind of such thoughts. "Let's pray," Minzy grinned as she held out her hands. She didn't realize that in doing so, Suga's hand was placed in hers. His hand fit perfectly against hers, she thought before her father started to bless the meal. But she found herself wrapped up in Suga's touch. His hand was soft and warm, not to mention she felt butterflies in the pit of her stomach as his thumb ran soothing circles onto the top of her hand.

"Minzy," her mother's voice rang in her ear as she looked up to see them all staring at her.

She hummed unfazed at their stares, before she felt a kick from Jiyong who was glaring at her. She cursed under her breath as she gazed down to see that she was still holding Suga's hand. Widening her eyes in shock, she looked to see Suga smiling brightly. Squeezing her hand as if he was letting her know that it was okay with him that she kept holding onto his hand. But she knew better as she awkwardly wiggled her hand out from his grasp. Staring down at her hand that had lost contact with Suga, she felt some kind of electricity flowing through it.

"So tell us about yourself Suga," their father asked as he began to eat.

"What would you like to know," Suga politely smiled over to their father.

Their father shrugged as he chewed before answering, "I don't know...where are you from?"

"The ocean," Suga grinned.

"The ocean," Jiyong asked puzzled by his answer.

"A fisherman," their mother asked.

"Sure, I guess you can say that," Suga nodded.

"Vague," Jiyong mumbled loudly as he continued to eat.

Minzy glared over at her rude brother and shook her head, "So you're always at sea?"

"Yes," Suga said as he focused his attention onto her intensely. "I travel all around the world and somehow found myself in the right place at the right time." His words shook her deep to the core as if he was reading right through her.

"Ain't that the truth, if you weren't there I wouldn't have my daughter sitting here with us," their father nodded.

"It really was no problem at all," Suga offered. "It was my pleasure," Suga said as his gaze softened on Minzy.

"I bet it was," Jiyong rolled his eyes as he stuffed his mouth.

"Jiyong I bet you enjoyed the diner today didn't you," Minzy said through gritted teeth. She was tired of his constant low blows and couldn't help but take a stab right back at him.

Jiyong swallowed hard as he squinted his eyes at his sister, "It...was..."

"You guys had lunch at the diner," their mother looked at all of them as she ate.

There was some unspoken glares shot back and forth between the syblings before Jiyong backed down, "Yeah mom. We ate at the diner and went to the beach afterward. That's were we met Suga." Jiyong grumbled under his breath as he sat defeated.

"Well it's getting late," Suga said as he smiled at their parents. "If you don't mind, I'd like to head back home."

"Yes my dear, Minzy won't you please take your friend home," their father asked. "It's the least you could do to thank him."

Minzy bit her lower lip as she sat staring at Jiyong seething up in his seat. "Dad I can take him," Jiyong offered in the most fakest smile he could come up with.

"No, no. Let Minzy take him. You and your brother have some projects I need you guys to work on since I can never get your father to do so," their mother said as she got up from the table.

"But mom..." the boys groaned in unison while their father shrugged indifferent to the insult.

"Nice meeting you dear, hope to see you throughout the Summer," their mother smiled as she excused herself.

"Goodnight," their father waved as he exited before his sons could rope him in with whatever their mother had planned.

Minzy laughed as she waved goodbye to her family and quietly made her way into the car. She felt her chest tighten as Suga hopped into the car alongside her. Grinning to herself, she quietly pulled away. The drive was a quiet one. It was a peaceful silence they shared as they drove through the night that was dotted by the stars. Rolling her window down, she closed her eyes for a mere second to soak up the cool breeze as she continued to drive. With one hand out, she looked over to see Suga mimicking her actions. Rolling his window down, he too stuck his hand out. Gasping at the sudden gust of wind, his free hand nearly smacked himself in the face. This caused both of them to laugh as they cruised through the night.

Minzy pulled up to the beach she was at early and glanced over at the young man who grew quiet. She couldn't help but notice just how defined his features were as if they had been refined by the ocean waters. Grinning at her comparision, she was soon met with his smiling face. "Will you take a walk with me?" Nodding, she slipped out of the car and stood at the hood as he came around towards her. Extending out his hand to her, she was hesitant. "Let's walk naturally," he said as he didn't wait to take her hand in his. Intertwining his fingers with her, he gently tugged her along until she was walking with him. He began to sway their connected hands back and forth before pulling her hand up to his lips. Planting a soft peck upon the top of her hand, she bit her lower lip and smiled at the warm sensation that was filling her. Soon the pair were standing at the shore. Quietly they stood staring out at the deep blue sea where the moon glistened over the waters and the stars twinkled. The view was breath taking, but not as breath taking as the young man that stood hand in hand with her. Turning to gaze at Suga she couldn't help but hold big goofy smile.

"Minzy I've been waiting for you to come back to me," he honestly said as he squeezed her hand.

"We're here every Summer," she blushed with a chuckle.

"Your laugh is like music to my ears," he sighed.

"If there was a contest of flattery you would win," Minzy nodded to herself.

Suga pulled at her hand to have her square up with him. Staring face to face with her, he cupped her face in his hands, "The only contest I want to be in is the one for your heart."

Minzy had never been buttered up like this before in her life. She felt herself go weak in the knees as she looked away. Fanning herself with her hand she then brushed the back of her hand against her forehead to feel her temperature. "Why," she couldn't help but ask as she turned to look back at him.

"You didn't feel it when our lips touched," he frowned in disbelief.

Standing as she gazed upon the water, her memories flashed before her eyes. She thought of how she was at death's grasp, but his electric lips shocked her back to life. Giving her hope and reason to swim up and fight the current. With his support she was able to reach the surface. Brushing her finger tips against her lips, she felt the tears start to fall. "It doesn't make sense." She shook her head as everything hit her all at once, "You don't make sense." Folding her arms over her chest to hold herself, she stared at him trying to make sense of her memories.

Watching as he moved into the water, he stepped back descending further and further into the water, "Somethings don't need to make sense." The water began to light up to a glowing bright blue. The glowing water began to surround Suga before it consumed him whole, flashes of bright light that quickly blinded her vision. Shielding her eyes, the brightness soon faded to a soft glow allowing her to finally see. Gasping she stood in awe as she saw Suga in the water. "This is my true nature," he grinned as he flipped his giant scalely fin. He looked like a magnificent creature before her eyes.

"Whoa," she breathed not being able to put into words what she felt.

"I only wanted to save you, but when I gave you a breath of life. You took away mine," he blushed as he looked away embarassed. "I've waited the seasons out to see you again and I'm glad I did." Smiling brightly, he turned to move further into the water.

"Wait," she called after him. Grateful to see him stop and look back at her, she moved into the water, "Will you come back to see me?"

"Every day, if you wish," he swam back towards her. Sitting in the water, she came face to face with him. Watching as the soft glowing water soon surrounded her, she couldn't help but feel as if she was in some kind of fantasy world. "Minzy," he called her name which made her smile.

She hummed as her eyes met his, his eyes shone a soft deep blue. In awe of the different shades his eyes changed. She sighed as she found his hand in hers, "My Summer just got a whole lot better." Squealing as she was pulled into the water, she felt a renewed love for the deep blue ocean in the Summer.
