A/N : Sunggyu and Dongwoos scenes are occurring parallel/simultaneously to each other

“MOTHER! NO!! MOOOOTHERRRR!!!!”

  Sunggyu’s heartwrenching sobs pierced Dongwoo’s heart as he was forcefully dragged away from his only son by the palace guards 

 He prayed with his whole heart with the little faith he had left in God that Hyorin would keep her word and spare his little gem......... 

 

If Dongwoo could he would shield and protect his son, the young prince from any harm in his warm embrace till the ends of time, his life and happiness were inconsequential to him if in exchange of it Sunggyu would not be subjected to the cruelties and unfairness the world had unjustly bestowed apon his own life

 

“Sunggyu-ah don’t worry about me..... Mammy will be fine..... Just be safe.... Please” Dongwoo smiled weakly at his boy biting his lips and clenching his eyes shut to mask his tears and trembling body when the guards hands lingered purposefully on his exposed skin 

 
 “This humiliation..... it was a small price to pay for his son’s safety”

 
“MOTHERRRR!!”

 

Dongwoo let the tears roll freely down his cheeks when the guards tugged his face away from the sight of his wailing son. The lecherous expression he saw on one of the guards made him let out a broken whimper as he couldn’t help but be afraid of what was going to happen to him

 
“Don’t worry ‘princess’ Dongwoo we’ll take special care of you..... “The guard on his right hissed near his ear before he suddenly kneed Dongwoo on his stomach laughing loudly along with the others as he weakly stumbled to the ground

 
“Aaahhh! Bear with it.... It’s for Sunggyu “ Dongwoo thought determinedly as he coughed painfully 

 

Suddenly however all the laughter stopped replaced by confused and curious whispers as an unnatural chill seized the castle 

 

Dongwoo froze pain forgotten as the cool air pricked his skin even through his thick kimono, eye’s wide open in shock

 

“It can’t be...... This presence..... It’s impossible! ”Dongwoo thought stunned as the familiar  feeling of a cold bitter icy mist, of comfort and protection washed over him reassuringly

 

Sunggyu’s anguished howl however broke the young mothers haze, making a very worried and terrified Dongwoo to pivot on his knees, only to gasp at what he saw

“They hurt Mammy” 
 
Sunggyu’s innocent mind kept repeating like a broken record as he watched his mother falling helplessly to the ground, the cruel people around them laughing with glee

 

“It’s all my fault “ Sunggyu spoke out voicelessly as his pupils slowly started dilating

 

“They hurt Dino Mammy because of me..... “

 

Everything before the prince began to blur as his warm brown irises faded away the guilt in his heart clouding his vision

 

“Nooo!!! I won’t let them..... I won’t let them hurt dino mammy again... “

 

Sunggyu’s body started trembling as the despair he was feeling was slowly morphing into another ugly emotion he was unfamiliar with

 

“How could they..... How could they hurt you?..... How could they hurt such a kind loving person? “

 

The young prince felt intense unadulterated rage coursing through his tiny body 

 

“I won’t let them take my Mother!!!”

 

Sunggyu began thrashing around uncontrollably, struggling to escape from his captives...... To hug his mother and tell him everything will be fine

 

“This time, from now on..... I’ll be the one protecting you “

 

A single tear left Sunggyu’s eerily blank eyes as he sent a single plead to the God above, the one his mother believed in so dearly and always spoke of so fondly....... The one whose existence he doubted

 

“So please, I beg you lord of the universe...... Help me protect my mother for forever more ........please..”

 

The single tear rolled down his chubby cheeks pausing tentatively on his jawline

 

“Help me protect what is most dear to me”

A divine light engulfed the young prince in a gentle caress as a gentle voice resounded in his head

 
“My favour has always been with you my favoured child.......... Awaken little fox”

 

“Wh-att?” the young boy gasped as a faint pale blue glow emanated from Sunggyu’s tiny palms as The deep somewhat familiar? Voice startled the young prince the light returning to his eyes ,making him acutely aware of his surroundings for a fraction of a second,

 that moment however was enough for him to see a guard lifting a spiked whip high in the air preparing to strike his unaware mother curled up on the ground

 

“NOOOOOOOOOO!!” 

 Sunggyu screamed in anguish extending one arm into the air in a desperate attempt to somehow reach and  halt the inevitable blow the jerky movement causing the teardrop stuck on his jaw to finally descend to the ground and shatter like all his hopes

 

“Show forth your power my child”

 

The faint glow surrounding Sunggyu’s extended arm flickered unstably just as the teardrop was about to strike the ground, a sparkling white tear shaped ice crystal, hitting the floor in its stead 

 

“Protect the one’s you love”

Sunggyu’s light brown eye’s flashed threateningly as his arm burst into a brilliant shower of blinding white light which encompassed his whole body 

 

A tempest suddenly resonated through the castle walls, an unnatural chill piercing the air as the prince’s pained outcry echoed through the halls

 

“GIVE ME BACK MY MOTHER!!” 

“What’s ha-ppening!! “ the guards surrounding Dongwoo panicked letting go of the prisoner and huddling together in fear as an impenetrable foreboding mist filled the whole hall ...... The roles of everyone in the room now reversed the predator becoming prey

 

“Aaaaaaahhh!! WHAT THE DEVIL!!?”  one guard shrieked in absolute terror shrinking against the wall under the weight of the frost covered whip and his completely frozen arm holding it

 

“MY LORD WHAT IS GOING ON! “ Hyorin screeched fear showing on her elegant features as she held onto her husband 

 

“I don’t know love...... I don’t know “ Howon replied hurriedly unfastening and drawing the heirloom royal cloak of the the ice kingdom infused with powerful repelling magic from the elders of bygone eras over them, absently his queens back to comfort her, his worried eyes fixed on the fallen figure on the other side of the foyer

 

Sunggyu doesn’t understand what’s happening to him. The only thing clear to his little self , was the intense almost desperate need to save his mother before he felt this indescribable force from deep within his body...... An unimaginable surge of power flowing through his veins 

 

The air around him sparkled with energy surrounding his fragile body as the power inside him grew stronger and stronger with each passing second 

 

“Let it go” an ethereal voice echoed from within his heart

A single Ripple of power escaped his body coursing through the ground turning the entire floor into a smooth sheet of ice

It was just a small show of what was to come as once the small trinket of power seeped out of the princes small body he was unable to contain it in any longer 

 

Frosty beams of beautiful sparkling crystal shot out in every direction freezing and destroying everything on contact

Sunggyu watched stunned as colorful streaks of ice erupted everywhere in the grand foyer covering and immobilising everything in its path in frightening speed and accuracy

The guards all turned into petrified solid statues only his mother laying unharmed between them protected by a shower of tiny clear floating crystals

 

Sunggyu unconsciously lowered his hand and watched in wonder as the crystals and icy breeze followed its movements instantly

With childlike curiosity he tentatively twirled his index finger in a circle and to his utter delight the beautiful sparkly flakes of snow swirled around in the same manner before disappearing mysteriously into the air 

 

Sunggyu looked at his softly glowing hand in wonder as he felt the unknown power pulse in sink with his heart beat 

The young prince should probably be terrified of what just happened but he only felt a sense of calm and protection.....of belonging

 

His tiny palm automatically made its way to his chest a chilling refreshing feeling of happiness washing over him a feeling of finally coming home 

Dongwoo gasped covering his mouth unbelievingly as he watched the familiar ethereal pale white glow enveloping his small son 

 

 Fine crystallized powders of dust And ice gently flying from his fingertips and swirling around the tiny body in a caressing manner

But the sight of the familiar beautiful ninetail fox curled lovingly around sunggyu brought disbelief and joy to his heart

 

Sunggyu eyes flickered towards him as his son gave him the biggest smile he had ever seen on him 

Dongwoo gasped at the sight of the gorgeous silver orbs glittering excitedly at him the Prince seemingly unaware of the devine being behind him as he tried rushing into his mother’s arms

 

“Mother !! Did you see what I just di-“ the happy prince only managed to say out loud before his eyelids became heavy ,hiding his silver orbs, little body suddenly collapsing from exhaustion 

A panicked Dongwoo shot off the ground immediately But thankfully the fox was there to catch his son  with its many tails

 

“I never thought I would see you again.....” Dongwoo mumbled I’m relief  affection dripping from his voice, eyes gazing at the ninetail nuzzling his son so preciously

 

“You always see me princess Dongwoo.... I am Sunggyu did you forget? ” the fox chuckles mischievously in its airy voice tails swishing around it elegantly as he urged the other male to come closer 

 

“I know but it’s still good to see you...... It always felt as though you vanished that day for good “Dongwoo smiled eyes glistening with tears as he  walked closer reaching out towards the magical being who was his only anchor in the darkest of times

 

“Sunggyu would never dream of leaving you and neither would I “ the fox purred happily leaning into the touch

“Thank you for protecting me..... Him” Dongwoo murmured greatfully

“I would never let anyone harm the ones I love ever again....”

 

 

 

The touching moment however was lost when a banshee like screech erupted through the foyer a terrified hyorin  pointing at Sunggyu and his mother from under the cloak unharmed 

“DID YOU SEE WHAT PRINCE SUNGGYU JUST DID?!! THE MONSTER IS ACTUALLY FLOATING IN THIN AIR !!”

“Thin air ?” Dongwoo blinked confused 

“They can’t see me..... only people with pure hearts can.....” the ninetails laughed knowingly 

“Aaah that explains it “ Dongwoo hummed deep in thought

 

 

“There is no question about it......It can only be the power and blessing of the sparkling fox” King Howon finally spoke out seriously ,tension evident on his face as he observed the tattered cloak covered with thick ice

“Thats Impossible!! Only a pure bred noble can attain the sacred power !! And neither of us has “ Hyorin muttered utterly scandalized 

“I......I’m not sure myself “ Howon replied eyes intensely regarding the unconscious boy

“This is preposterous.......this....this scum attained the Devine gift?! This is blasphemy “ Hyorin scoffed

“Don’t you dare insult my son !” Dongwoo growled in warning  “Why don’t you try acting like the queen of the ice nation for once instead of an immature teenage palace girl!!”

 

“HOW ING DARE YOU...YOU FILTHY MONGREL !!”

“An immature palace girl indeed" Dongwoo scoffed

“Howon you can’t leave the power in the hands of these peasants look at what that boy did to your prized men......You have to seal the power in the shard !” Hyorin commanded gesturing to the royal sceptre in the kings hand

 

Dongwoo gasped eyes widening in terror at the mention of the reverent treasure of the ice kingdom.......The Ice stone......the Source and container of the power of the ice kingdom

 
“Are you out of your mind! If you do that Sunggyu will die his life force will be drained out as well !” Dongwoo argued  knowing fully well the stone was created with the sole purpose of sealing and eradicating the ice spirit should it ever loose control of its powers .

 

“He is a danger to the ice kingdom And it’s inhabitants.....And as it’s rightful rulers it is our duty to protect our people is it not King Howon?” Princess Hyorin spoke genially 

Howon looked conflicted for a few seconds before his eyes hardened with resolve 

“No my Lord .....Noooo!”

The king looked at his precious concubine with sorrow and pity

“There’s no other way lady Dongwoo ,Prince Sunggyu is high unstable as it is ......And the safety of my people come over my wish to safeguard my son"

 

 

“YOU WOULDNT BE SAYING THIS IF IT WAS SUNGJONG IN HIS PLACE !” 

“Lord Howon wouldn’t have to do anything if it was Prince Sungjong instead of this pretentious imposter prince"

“I won’t let you touch a single hair on my son’s head!”

“I’m sorry love.....but you have no say in this"

 

 

Dongwoo froze at the cruelty his king exhibited ....How could Howon even say that how could he not have a say in his son’s life!

Howon pulled out his sceptre the tip of which was glowing erratically the king used his brute force to snap open the crystal sheath surrounding it to reveal a bright sparkling white gem embedded within the silver staff

 

It was dangerously beautiful 

 

“By the powers invested in me by our ancestors I, king Howon , seal you Devine guardian within the shard of time !”

The fox started howling in pain as his whole being was paralyzed his strength slowly but surely being drained into the crystal

 

“Stop it !!!” Dongwoo screamed rushing between them  “ A human body cannot withstand such magic!!"
Sunggyu twitched in discomfort in his sleep a soft mother falling from his lip

 

As the fox whimpered in pain ,The air in the palace suddenly shifted as a regal gale started gushing through the castle becoming faster and stronger with each passing second

“What is that DEVIL doing now? Howon seal the guardian faster!”

“I’m trying but....somethings wrong?”

 

“Bwoh? “ Dongwoo murmured instinctively moving towards Sunggyu and pulling him into his arms “Your safe now baby Mammy is here"

The tired panting fox released its hold on the young Prince knowing he was in trusted hands it’s curious gaze on the picking wind surrounding the king

 

“GAAAAAAHHHH!!! “Howon screamed the staff in his hand bursting, the pieces piercing through the air like arrows making the king rush and shield the queen from the onslaught 

The broken silver and glass pieces however remained confined only on one half of the foyer coming nowhere near a oblivious Dongwoo cradling his unconscious son

 

“This wind.....” The fox spoke out in wonder tensing when a bright light engulfed the whole foyer all inhabitants stuck in the realm of time except the fox and the unnatural wind 

The ninetails glanced at Dongwoo and Sunggyu finding the Prince unaffected by the time space but still unconscious it only reaffirmed that the one behind the powerful spell was none other than the creator of the universe,his father, God

“You saved me once again......Thank you"

 

The shard unlike the rest of the staff remained hovering in place sparkling brighter than before as it slowly glided across the room towards the ninetailed fox 
It stopped right in front of the fox dangling playfully in the air

 

 

“I believe this belongs to you sparkling ninetails......” a teasing voice spoke as a majestic figure materialised in the centre of the room, the vessel carrying out gods will for him

 

“I think You mean belongs to Sunggyu.....Don’t you not dragon-shii....” The Ninetails chuckled after getting over the initial shock at the appearance of the other guardian for the dragon had chosen not to be reincarnated again for the next 100 decades and also over the fact that the azure dragon willingly came to help the ninetails even if on request from their father since it was no secret that the dragon still didn't particularly favour him

 

“Is it not the same thing fox-shii?” The blue dragon scoffed as the shard flew through the air again to float directly above Prince Sunggyu’s heart 

“This will be my final gift to you .......” The dragon spoke softly gazing at the young boy with sorrowful eyes

The shard in one quick motion split into two equal halves to the horror of the fox

 

“Why did you... break my lifestone ?” the fox questioned confused unable to hide The betrayal from its calm voice

 

“Oh just to help a dumb bird find his true soulmate....... he is surprisingly more foolish this lifetime around than the last sadly” the dragon sighed in exasperation  as one half of the lifestone floated back within the grasp of her claws as the other half immediately sunk into the young princes chest fusing and reuniting with his incomplete heart

 

“Is.....Is the Phoenix well?” The fox questioned hesitatingly almost shyly 

“He is well I suppose just.....”The dragon smirked at the suddenly bashful guardian before her “ You will know sooner or later I don't think Phoenix is going to let you escape from his clutches for eternity now that he knows his feelings aren't as one sided as he thought it was......about time that stupid bird figured it out though"

 

“I......I don’t know what feelings you are speaking of !! “ The fox denied hotly embarrassed tails swishing erratically as random bursts of ice flickered through the room before finally calming down and continuing with concern laced on his words " You have changed old friend you have become more mature and kinder......but why is your life force so weak?....are you ill perhaps?”

 

“It is a small price to pay for what I did to my dearest friends ......I hope you have it in your heart to forgive me " The dragon smiled sadly as she poured her remaining energy into the shard causing it to shoot across the skies like a shooting star

 

“Though your reincarnations may not remember these precious feelings you both share.... your heart ,the shard, will guide him......Woohyun.... to you ,Sunggyu........”

 

“And this time I believe it will be a happy ending “ The dragon smiled sincerely as she faced the ninetails his whole body fading slowly from existance as her sacred stone formed in the sceptre instead of the foxes

 

“Woo-hyunnn?? Is that the Phoenix’s reincarnation?” The fox asked dazedly tilting it’s head

 

The dragon gave an ambiguous laugh in reply as she hurriedly spoke

“ I dont have much time left .....but it is not wise to reveal yourself now to anyone it will put Sunggyu and his mother in danger so for now pretend you have been sealed in your shard .I have replaced yours with my own the king will not know the difference but you must promise me to be in hiding till the time comes ......You can protect Sunggyu by giving him access to his powers but you cannot reveal yourself or his past to him .....yet"

 

“I understand.......but what is happening to you ?” The fox asked in alarm as the dragons magic force disappeared completely 

 

“Do not worry I will be safe,resting and waiting in heaven for your union.......eternity is a long time fox-shii so brace yourself the young human Woohyun seems to be of the possessive and clingy kind from what I observed “

The foxes eyes mellowed as he watched the melancholic dragon who still dearly loved the crimson Phoenix 

“Thank you azure dragon.....”

“Its the least I could do.......please complete your story this time ninetails.....Good luck little fox"

As the dragon disappeared  so did time started flowing again. The wind stone pulsing intermittently in king Howons hand suspiciously bearing a striking resemblance to the ice crystal

 

“The ice guardian is contained? “Howon blinked in confusion as he eyed the stone in disbelief 

“You did it my Lord! I knew you could" queen Hyorin celebrated gleefully hugging her husband

 

"What's going on ???” A soft whisper echoed behind the ninetails making the guardian turn around and face a confused Dongwoo still cradling his unconscious son 

The fox lifted one of his tails across his snout in a secretive manner giving the young mother a sly wink as he slowly dematerialised ,power seeping back into Sunggyu's body

Dongwoo being ever perceptive understood the gestures and played his part lamenting about his injured son ignoring the existence of the fox guardian 

“My Lord arrest these two felons before they cause more trouble to the kingdom......such scrums should rot in the dungeons!” the queen sneered in disdain signalling the few unharmed guards to apprehend the troublemakers 

Dongwoo held onto his son fearing the worst when The king raised his arm barking orders at everyone to stay back

 

“What are you doing Ho-"

“Forgive me my lady but it would seem prince Sunggyu no longer poses a threat as the divine power's have been sealed within the stone so I think further punishment is unnecessary....”

“But that boy tried to kill us !!!!”

 

“No my Queen.......Prince Sunggyu merely tried to protect his mother ,a noble deed indeed ..........and as he is still the first Prince of the nation it would be unwise to subject him to such punishment “ King Howon spoke with finality not open to any arguments 

 

“Lady Dongwoo take Prince Sunggyu to your quarters immediately and await the arrival of the palace doctor “

Dongwoo scurried to his feet at the order not wanting to stay in their presence any longer as queen Hyorin spluttered and protested against Howons decision 

The guards wearily and timidly parted making way for the mother and son duo as the queen and king had a screaming match behind them

“How can you just let them go!!”

“One cannot just punish the Devine entities chosen host !! It will only lead to our downfall besides you were being unreasonable with princess Dongwoos punishment as it was!!!”

"ARE YOU ACTUALLY DEFENDING THAT FILTHY CONCUB-!!"

"My queen it would do you well not to complete that sentence"

 

Dongwoo held Sunggyu close as he rushed away from the drama ensuing in the foyer praying incessantly while placing open mouth kisses across his son’s face

“I’ll protect you with all my strength  Sunggyu.....You and the guardian till your Prince finally comes to take you away from this hell"

Somewhere deep in the mountains far south of the ice kingdom two young boys were play fighting with wooden swords as their mother and her cousin watched them fondly 

 

“Boohyun seems very skilled for his age does he not Eunha ?” The queen yuuna praised the first born prince

“Yes my Queen.....but the 2nd Prince isn’t too bad himself ,if not better.....maybe your slight bias to Prince Boohyun is blinding you“ lady Eunha laughed watching the 2 boys tumbling around

 

“I suppose you would know better as you have the best swordsmanship among the young knights in the land unlike dainty old me“ The queen sighed 

“Oh come now sister ! Your talent lies elsewhere in politics you know that “ Eunha chided with a small laugh

“I suppose I have to take your word for it....I am such a bad mother though for favouring my oldest. ..” The queen remarked gasping as she caught sight of a falling star 

 

“Eunha dear look ! Close your eyes and make a wish quickly!!!”

As both cousins shut their eyes childishly and wished apon the star a panicked screech penetrated their ears

 

 

“Woohyun !!! What happened to your eyes?!!! Aaaaaahhhh!”

The queen snapped her eyes open and darted towards her son with Eunha following close behind

The two ladies stopped in disbelief at the sight before them a half burnt wooden sword lay by the feet of Prince Boohyun who was cowering in fear and shock as the youngest Prince was wailing his heart out

“Woohyun baby what’s wrong ?? “ Eunha finally spoke up rushing forwards towards the younger as the queen had chose to attend to the older Prince

“Nooonnaaa hic- I can-ntt hic stop crying ? Waaaahh hic- I fee-ll so saa-d and ha-ppy?? " Little Woohyun cried looking up through teary eyes

Eunhas mouth fell open once she saw the others face his once brown eyes nowhere to be seen as The young Prince of the fire nation  poured his heart out of his heterochromic electric blue and crimson red eyes

The end scene with Woohyun happens after the dragon charms the ice shard (which is actually a part of Sunggyu's heart) to fuse with the phoenixs (Woohyun's heart) to link them together even if their human reincarnations don't remember their love for each other
