 - Have you ever felt like you were missing an emotion in your life?

 - No really, that’s a serious question, have you ever not felt a certain emotion before?

 - The answer is yes, you have never felt one emotion in your life and that emotion is sadness

 - Your whole life you’ve always felt happy, angry, scared, surprised, disgusted, all that jazz but the one thing you were missing was sadness

 - It was a concept that was very foreign to you and often when people were sad you couldn’t wrap your mind around the idea 

 - That’s what a Soulmate is for: revealing that one emotion you’ve been missing your whole life

 - It’s how everyone in your world finds the person they’re meant to be with, you were told this by your mom (you’re homeschooled) 

 - When she began to teach you about Soulmates you were ecstatic as you thought about the day you might find this mysterious person

 - Days turned into weeks, week turned into months, and months turned into years and by the end of it all you were about to turn 18

 - It was a few days before your birthday when you headed out on your bike for the market

 - Every Saturday you would go pick up food then return home to help make dinner 

 - You headed off on your bike and arrived at the market around noon, pulling your hair out of the ponytail it had been in to keep it from getting in your face

 - All the stand owners knew you well, they had practically watched you grow up 

 - “Hey Y/N! How’s it going?”

 - One of the stand owners was a boy around the same age as you, he had become your best friend over the years

 - “Hi Yeollie!”

 - His name is Dongyeol but you call him Yeollie because it’s cute and when you two were kids his full name was too difficult to say

 - Admittedly, you had a small crush on him but it was just a crush

 - In life you find a Soulmate and while you were with him you never felt that one emotion you had been missing: Sadness

 - You’d rolled over the thought in your mind many times that he could be the one, but you never felt differently with him like you would with a Soulmate

 - On a certain level it made you sad because you really cared about him, any of the stand owners could say you to loved each other 

 - “Your birthday is coming up”

 - There was that same old smile on his face that made you giddy as all Hell, even though that was partially the problem

 - “In two days I’ll be 18 and finally find my Soulmate”

 - “It’s such a young age though…are you ready?”

 - Answering that question truthfully wouldn’t be fun but you couldn’t lie to him either

 - “Yes and no”

 - “Excuse us but could we buy these carrots?”

 - A couple stood behind you with rather angry looking faces, you bowed your head then moved out of the way so they could move on with their day

 - “Stupid kids. They better not be together”

 - You two heard the woman say, not so quietly, as she and her husband walked away from the stand

 - “I need the usual”

 - You paid for the food then took off for home instantly, the thought of being around Dongyeol was too much right now and part of you died a little bit as you knew he wouldn’t be the one

 - When you got home your parents were in the kitchen getting lunch started but you didn’t feel too hungry

 - “Hello honey, did you see Dongyeol today?”

 - “Yes”

 - “Oh good, how is the sweet pea?”

 - That made you chuckle, whenever your parents called him sweet pea as an endearment 

 - “He’s good, but some rather angry couple cut off our conversation today”

 - You handed the food to your parents then made your way to your room, feeling a bit lost about turning 18

 - Two days later came WAY sooner than you wanted it too, and soon you found yourself standing in your front yard with all your friends and family 

 - Laughter and childrens’ squeals filled the air on that warm summer day

 - You smiled happily at everyone as they each bid you happy birthday, but the one person you wanted to be there hadn’t arrived yet

 - Half way through the party you sat down on a bench to take a breather from all the conversations and festivities

 - You couldn’t help but think of Dongyeol and why he hadn’t shown up, you two have been best friends for years and on this birthday he didn’t show up

 - It made you upset, not sad, just upset

 - It never occurred to you that he might not have come to celebrate because, maybe…maybe he had a crush on you too?

 - Just as you were about to lose all hope a shadow covered your body and the faintest smell of chocolate drifted past your nose

 - A huge smile broke out on your face as you looked up to meet the warm brown eyes of Dongyeol

 - “You thought I wouldn’t show, didn’t you?”

 - He held out a small box and a rose for you to take, his lips formed the sweetest smile in the world 

 - You took the gifts from him, setting them down on the table, and turned back to him

 - The facial expression he wore changed suddenly, the smile was gone, and his eyes were cloudy

 - You felt a small ache in your heart which grew bigger the longer you stared at the boy in front of you

 - Your chest seemed to be carrying a heavy weight and your shoulders were shaking

 - Slowly, tears slid down both of your faces and soon it was full on crying

 - You mom came over to see what was the commotion about but instead of asking if you were okay, she screamed

 - The two of you turned to face her, her eyes were full of joy and happiness

 - “M-mom…why are you..w-what…?”

 - “Honey you found your Soulmate! Why wouldn’t I be happy?!”

 - Soulmate? Had you heard correctly?

 - “Wait…He and I are…”

 - “Honey you’re crying, how do you feel?”

 - The question was simple but you thought for a good minute or two before the realization hit you like a freight train 

 - “Sad…”

 - “Did you know Y/N?”

 - “No. I had no idea”

 - “Well stop crying you two! Kiss each other, you’ll feel fine afterwards I promise”

 - You mother left with such giddiness you both could’ve sworn she jumped in the air and clicked her heels together

 - Dongyeol chuckled, it was sad, as he reached out for your hand tenderly

 - His eyes met yours sweetly while he pulled you closer to him

 - “I think my crush just became my Soulmate”

 - He whispered into your ear and pressed his supple lips against yours
