The path that you been destined to take appeared endless. Your breathing becoming irregularly shallow with each involuntary step you took. You felt dehydrated and hungry at the same time. The feeling of sand under your feet beginning to feel vaguely uncomfortable. You have been walking for hours on end, searching high and low, going through great lengths to reach your destination.  You were so confident this was the right way a few hours ago, but your mind set has been completely altered after your chosen path seemed almost endless.

“The pain and suffering have better been worth it in the end,” You repeated in your mind continuously, shivering slightly at the cool wind blowing in your face.

From a very young age adults have told you that one day you will be expected to choose a path of your own. Once creating that fated path, you will then be set on an adventure, a journey of your own and placing your decisions responsible for any failures and successes in your future. This way no one is to blame for your downfalls but you, yourself. You’ve watched several family and friends partake in this so called decision-making process. Confidently, choosing their own pathways and being left in a ditch of nothingness.

You felt lonely and scared but you knew this was bound to happen sooner or later and that you too, would have to be off on your own journey. The time has come and you never felt more terrified in your life. Before, leaving the comfort of your home you packed a bag full of your essentials, not forgetting to bring your heavy camera. Your mother was very against the idea of you discontinuing your studies at University and choosing to go travelling instead but it was ultimately not her decision and you were readier to explore than open some books.

You had a love for photography.

From a very young age you had always had an interest in travelling and escaping reality through visual interpretations and film. You loved to let your imagination run wild and allow yourself to be submerged in a dystopia that you have created on your own. You found beauty in travel and nature, you were not going to allow yourself be stuck in the same boring routine for the rest of your life. It was impossible to keep a free butterfly like yourself caged. You needed to roam free and experience.

However, you were slowly regretting the decision of going too far out into the more natural parts of Korea. Your eyes roamed around for any signs of civilization and disappointment was clear on your face when you found nothing.  You wanted to find an abandoned amusement park that your parents once took you too when you were very young, back then it was still up and running. Full of life and people, far from being abandoned. The memory staying prominent in your mind because of the joy and attraction you felt when being present in that environment.

You still couldn’t help but feel incredibly doubtful of your decision. “I shouldn’t have gotten off that damn train.” Being the only thought occupying your mind. It has been years since you have last stepped foot in this part of Korea. To be fair, you were lost. You sigh and turn your gaze towards the ocean. You feel a slight comfort at the beauty the ocean generates, the sea is twinkling beautifully under the radiant sun.

Halting, in your tracks you quickly take your camera into your hands and snap a shot. You examine the picture closely, bringing the heavy camera towards your face blocking out any other visuals besides the picture. A smile creeps on your face, as your eyes scan over the picture in approval. Nodding your head faintly, you close your eyes, trying to enjoy the cold breeze against your red cheeks.

Lost between the deserts and oceans

I’m still wandering

Where should I go?

You slowly open your eyes wondering if you were going to be able to make it back to the station without any hiccups, you have been walking for hours now. You bite your bottom lip in frustration as the thought crosses your mind. Closing your eyes once again, you exhale in annoyance.

It’s been years (Y/N)! Did you really think you could find it on your own? You harshly critise yourself in your head, stomping your foot onto the sand in a child-like manner. Lips forming into a pout. You sighed once again, not looking forward to opening them again and being surrounded by nothingness.

Once you open your eyes again you almost cried out in fear at the sudden appearance of a silhouette standing a few inches away from you. Your heart thumping wildly against your chest. You stare at the bright pink haired boy in complete shock.

Your legs skeptically move to take a small step back, eyes leaving his temporarily as you scan the area. You were both currently standing at a beach like area, there was no trees or bushes for this boy to be hiding behind. The fact that he appeared unnoticed was totally bizarre.

“When did he get there? And how long has he been standing there?”

You could have sworn you were only one present a few seconds ago. You scanned the area once again unmistakably there was no way for him to appear without you noticing him from a distance and there was no sign of people anywhere close by or near you at all. The area was downright disserted. The fact that this boy showed up without any warning right in front of your face completely unnoticed was absurd and kind of startling.

The boy is tall and has a very stoic expression displayed on his face. You stare wide eyed at the pale skinned boy with pink hair. His hair hair blowing beautifully in the wind, his lips thick and frame quite thin. He is very pale, and is not bothered by your look of surprise at all.

Speechless, your eyes quickly, leave his gorgeous face to scan the rest of his body. He was wearing casual clothes which would have seemed completely normal if it wasn’t for the current cold temperatures. He was not shivering or showing any signs of being cold at all. You knew he was under dressed and must be freezing.  His emotionless expression on face never leaves but you notice his eyes shift from yours to your chest and back up. You would have thought he was shamelessly checking you out, if it wasn’t for the big heavy camera hanging around your neck. His eyes quickly travel back to your face and when meeting your eyes again, you notice a faint smile appear on the latter’s face.

A few more seconds of awkward silence and staring at the strangers goes by before you cannot take it anymore and needed to break the tension. You swallow the surprise you felt and force your lips and tongue to move.

“H-Hello!” You screech, finally being able to recover from the sudden unexpected intrusion. The boy stares at you with an expressionless face. His eyes never leaving your own as he stays rooted to the ground. You hesitantly take another step back, cocking an eyebrow at the boy, mouth remaining parted in an outstretched forced smile.  The boy is not bothered by your awkwardness one bit. He keeps his gaze on you as he nods his head very slowly. The half-assed greeting, is ignored by you as you fall deep in thought over what you should say next.

“U-Um, Hi I’m (Y/N)! I am looking for an abandoned carnival! I don’t remember what it was called. I-I know its closed down by now. U-Um are you living in the area?” You rambled, fiddling with your bag straps, the boy’s eyes finally drift from your own and travels down again to the camera hung neatly around your neck.  You follow his gaze with uncertainty and remain confused when he silently gazes at your camera. He seems deep in thought. Eyes studying the camera without a hint of a smile present on his face.

“Uh- “

“That camera.”  He says barely above a whisper, raising his hand slowly to point at it. You avert your gaze back to his face, relieved at the sudden emotion displayed on his handsome features. “M-My camera?” You ask, lifting it off your chest. The boy nods eagerly, lips breaking into a breathtakingly sweet smile. You feel heat rush to your cheeks as he steps forward, running his delicate, pale, fingers over your camera as it was still hung around your neck. Your heart thumps faster in your chest, at the proximity of the attractive stranger. Your eyes not being able to leave his gorgeous face. The boy’s eyes look back up to meet yours and you flinch under his sharp gaze. He notices your nerves, lips pulling into a grin and winks down at you cheekily pressing a finger lightly on your nose.

“I’ll show where that place is. But, in exchange will you let me take some pictures with your camera?”

____

“To take the photo you just hold onto the big button at the top- “

SNAP!

“Wow! Yeah, that’s it! You’re a natural at this ah?”

“Jimin. Call me Jimin.” He answers your uncertain exclaim as he takes another astonishingly beautiful picture of the remarkable scenery you were both pleasantly surrounded by. “Heh. Call me (Y/N).” You say eyeing his cotton candy pink colored hair. You both have been at it for the past two hours now, taking picture after picture. Not being able to get enough of the landscapes and ultimately, each other.

“I can’t believe we’ve been at this for hours and we just told each other our names. But seriously your incredible Jimin! If you hadn’t told me you were a model I would have thought you were an expert”

“Oh, please save the compliments for yourself (Y/N), I’m not a professional like you,” He sweetly praises you as he eyes scan through the pictures he has taken. You watch him delight, as a sense of peace creeps its way into your soul at the gentle and calm expression on his face. You watch him skim through the photos slowly analyzing them all. You wanted to see the other pictures he took of you and him together.

“Hey can I see-“

“No! You can look at them later, once your back on that damn train, okay? You’ll be on the train for hours anyways. It will give you something to do.” He says with his tone coming out slightly more demanding than it should have been. You blink up at him in surprise, but do not question it.  Jimin chuckles at your expression, the easy-going appearance on his face makes you automatically ease up a little. The slight tension dissolving into thin air.

You were both seated on one of the run-down rides, sitting side by side, educating each other on taking pictures, laughing and just having fun enjoying each other’s company. You had definitely believed he was a good person. Surely, he was. He just sometimes seemed a little off and you couldn’t really put your finger on it.

You discovered a lot about Jimin in the short time of knowing each other. You knew his age, his height, his taste in food, his love of travel and modeling for photos. It wasn’t like he did not talk about himself, but he definitely knew more about you than you knew about him.

Some questions were just ignored or completely cut off by him as he hurriedly would change subject or repeat the question to you for you to answer in his place. You asked him what he was doing anything for Christmas this year and if he would go see his family. The question was just flat out ignored by him. You asked him if he has travelled with anyone else but he vaguely answered the question with ‘a friend.’

He was more interested in hearing what you had to say. You wanted to ignore the slight suspicion you felt towards him because he was very friendly and talkative so it is easy to feel comfortable around him.  You both had strikingly similar interest and it was wonderful how well you both clicked. You knew you could easily be good friends with Park Jimin. He was not only beautiful but nice and gentle. He had shown you where the amusement park was and you both took an endless amount of pictures together. Snapping shots of the run down rides, the landscape and even going as far as taking pictures of each other.

“You know,” You start looking at Jimin fondly. “I was really scared that I made the wrong decision, choosing to travel instead of finding work or studying. But, meeting you today has definitely made me change my mind on that fear in my heart and I do not have any doubt in my decision anymore.” You say with an earnest look in your eyes as you, bring your knees close to your chest, hugging them tightly as you stare up at Jimin with a genuinely happy smile present on your face.

The look shown on Jimin’s face contains the true image of happiness as he smiles down at you, clutching onto your camera tightly in his hands.  Your eyes are set on each other and Jimin is the first one to break the compassionate gaze. He lifts his face leisurely towards the sunset sky above. “I’m glad, (Y/N).” He whispers gaze set on the sky above. There is an awkward but peaceful silence between the two of you, before Jimin chooses to break it.

“Hey, (Y/N).” He whispers, still looking up reluctantly at the sky. “Y-Yeah?” You question softly, finally pulling your gaze away from his handsome face and begin mimicking his actions, setting your eyes to the peach color sky above. “I don’t really want to say goodbye.”  A frown replaces the grin on your lips at the sudden realization that the sun was beginning to set and you knew you had to go back soon.

You had to walk back the way you came and catch an overnight train and continue with your journey, travelling further into the beautiful nature, towns and cities Korea should offer. You wanted to stay a bit longer, but there was nothing hear to shield you from the cold and the place was like a ghost town. Completely, abandoned, quiet and forgotten. Just it was not considered that way to you both, not to you and Jimin. This place had some sort of memory attached to it, some fragments of your identities whether it was good or bad, you both felt a sense of connection to this place. Which is why you probably trusted him so easily in the first place.

Entirely, disregarding the words that left Jimin’s beautifully full lips. You turn to face him anxiously as the wind begins to strengthen, the cold breeze sending shivers down your spine and making goose bumps appear on your skin. You were worried that he would get sick or freeze to death at the drop in already cold temperature. “J-Jimin you must be freezing, let’s start heading off.”

Jimin watches you form the corner of his eyes, his hand grip at the sleeves of his cardigan in vain. When, finally snapping out of your thoughts, you noticed Jimin suddenly falling silent as he stares at the amusement park with a melancholy impression to him. His eyes seemed to have lost the joyful glint and his lips were curved into a deep frown. Your heart ached at his sudden change of persona. You continued to watch him, until it became physically and emotionally unbearable. Not being able to stand watching him any further, you stood up off the broken down, rusty ride you were both leisurely sitting on.

Gently, taking your camera out of his hands and hanging it back around your neck. Jimin watches you and a flash of panic is present on his face as he hurriedly stands up, moving closer towards you.  You watch his reaction puzzled, but began making your way back down the ride regardless, jumping onto the ground with a soft thud. Jimin leaps down next to you and is quick to be at your side, he begins walking next to you, side by side. “Hey, Jimin. Thank you so much I had a lot of fun-“

“No, thank you (Y/N).” Jimin cuts you off with a forced smile, eyes dark. You feel his hurt expression pull at your heart strings. Your gaze lingers on his eyes and you suddenly felt incredibly lonely. The thought of leaving him, becoming slightly unbearable. It wasn’t as though you couldn’t leave him, you just didn’t want to.

“J-Jimin can I be selfish?” You ask hesitantly not really expecting him to answer. You watch Jimin’s lips tug into a small smile as he returns your gaze with a tender look in his eyes. “Sometimes, it’s okay to be selfish (Y/N).” He answers confidently, his modest approach encourages you to continue with your proposal.

“J-Jimin if you like…Would you like to travel with me-” You ask suddenly and almost die a little inside at the fall of Jimin’s smile. In response to his glum expression, you step forward to embrace him, to misplace the frown on his face for a smile and to also cover your blushing face from the bold question you had just asked. Your mid hug when a gust of sharp wind comes blowing towards you. Blowing some dust into your eyes.

“Argh.” You whine, trying to blink away the tears from forming and to get rid of the annoying specs of dust scratching at your sensitive eyes. “That hurt.” You whine, finally successfully blinking away the tears and regaining your composure only to be left in disappointment. You stare with an absent mind at the spot Jimin was just standing in a few seconds ago.

He was right in front of you. And now he’s gone. You shut your eyes tightly before opening them. When finally coming to terms with Jimin’s absence, your head automatically turns to scan the area surrounding you.

No one.

How did he just leave so quickly? And without a trace at that. You panic and begin making your way around the area, eyes scanning everywhere and anywhere. Nothing. Jimin was completely gone.  You sigh in annoyance and look up timely enough to see shoes.

Shoes?

Converse shoes, identical to the ones Jimin was wearing was tied up around a wire hanging directly above you, just a few meters away from the run-down amusement park. You stare at the shoes wide eyed. Were they always hanging up there?

You stare up at the shoes with an unmistakable ache in your chest, feeling tears well up at the corners of your eyes. “No.” You whisper, in complete disbelief, your mind automatically telling you to look at the pictures you had taken with him. You didn’t really understand it, but it was almost as if Jimin vanished into thin air. As, if to prove yourself that you’ve gone mad you needed to set your eyes onto some evidence. Anything. Something. That proves Jimin was with you. That Park Jimin was physically here with you. You frantically turn on your camera, hands shaking as you scan through all 70 pictures you and Jimin have taken together, the landscapes remained the same but-

Nothing.

He was absent in all the pictures you guys have taken together in those two hours you both spent hanging out and having fun. “No way?” You half whisper and whine as you flick back and forth through the photos, eyes scanning each picture, analyzing all the detail and he was gone. He was missing in every single photo that he should be present in. Besides, the landscape and amusement park photos, there were photos you guys had physically taken together in each other’s company.

“T-This can’t be happening!” You exclaimed in incredulity, as your eyes widened in disbelief, your hands shaking so hard that you almost drop your expensive camera onto the rough sand that was pooling around your feet. “Maybe I accidently deleted some of the photos?” You question yourself, knowing fully well you did not press anything to have done anything of the sort. You examine pictures that Jimin was supposed to be present in bewilderment. You mouth goes dry, when your eyes are met with the beautiful pictures Jimin has taken of you alone.

“That can’t be! H-He was here! I-I! He! JIMIN! Where did you go?” You exclaim in desperation, eyes finally being pulled away from your camera, as you scanned the disserted area once again with hope in your heart that this was just some joke. You knew there was nowhere for him to hide. But, the idea of him just leaving after you’ve asked him to travel with you hurt. It was like you were running away from rejection.

“It’s not funny Jimin! Please come out!” You chuckle, tears running down your cheeks. You don’t even notice that your crying until you feel the warmth of your tears streaming down your neck and peddling down onto the ends of your boots. A quiet sob chokes out of your dry parted lips. As you waited a few seconds longer.

Jimin was gone.

I didn’t know there were this many

Paths I can’t go and paths I can’t take

I never felt this way before

Am I becoming an adult?

This is too hard,
is this path right for me
I am confused

Never leave me alone

A boy who was walking a few feet behind you was taking some shots of the ocean and landscape surrounding the two off you. He found it weird that there was someone other than him present all the way out here away from civilization but he does not really give it a second thought and completely dismisses your presence until he hears you shouting and is quick to come to your aid. He is puzzled at the distressing tone present in your voice and your body was shaking slightly as you frantically search around the area.

“H-Hey! Oi! What’s wrong?” A male voice echoes in your ears and you immediately turn to face the owner of the voice. “J-Jimin!” You joyfully shout, only to be left completely disappointed. Standing in front of you was not Jimin, it was a different boy. He was tall and covered in warm winter clothing, the clothing a lot more covered and thick compared to Jimin’s attire. Although, he was just as equally handsome as Jimin and your eyes are automatically drawn to the camera hanging around his neck.

It was your camera. Wait, no you had your camera. The boy had the exact same camera model as you. The boy’s eyes were wide in disbelief and you almost miss the rushed tumbling of words escaping past his lips quickly, his grip on the roses he was carrying in his left-hand tightening, as he shakily hurries closer towards you. He scans your face with a sense of urgency and his demeanor has changed entirely.

“Y-You-d-did you just c-call me J-J-Jimin?” He stammers in complete disbelief. His grip on the flower loosening and as a result it set the beautiful yellow roses to fall limp onto to the sandy floor. They remain there completely forgotten as he grasps onto your shoulders almost painfully tightly. You yelp faintly in shock at the sudden physical contact from the stranger. You are disheveled yourself from what just happened with Jimin that the attractive stranger does not faze you one bit in comparison to what you had just experienced.

“I-I, y-yeah do you k-know h-him?” You stutter back, equally as distraught as you place your hands on his chest, gripping his sweater tightly. “Where is he?” You ask worriedly. The stranger’s expression is completely stunned as he gently removes his hands from your shoulders and moves them to gently cup your hands which were tightly attached on the front of his soft sweater.

“I-I, what do you mean where is he?” The stranger asks in complete confusion, eyebrows furrowed, jaw tightened and forehead wrinkles becoming present. “What? Wait-how do you know Jimin?” You answer, the stranger’s question, with a question of your own.  Adapting the habit from Jimin. The stranger has an unreadable expression his face as he exhales shakily and removes your hands off his sweater.

Your eyes widened in shock as a string of apologies leave your lips. The stranger doesn’t seem to care as he stares down at you intently. And it wasn’t until you place some distance between the two of you by taking a step back that you notice how tall he is. He was much taller than Jimin.

“I-“

“To answer your question, me and Jimin were best friends.” The stranger says, eyes clouding over in sadness. He stares back down at you with his face displaying dejection. He closes his momentarily as if he was reminiscing of the past in his head.

So, they are not friends anymore? The question is circling in your mind, refusing to go to the most obvious answer to that question.

“Now, how do you know Jimin?” He asks eyes slimming with suspicion as you become noticeably more restless. “I-I, well-”You struggle to answer the stranger and to your relief he cuts you off from losing his patience and not being able to watch you frantically stressing out.

“Jimin and I, we were inseparable. He was my best friend and my trusty partner in crime.” The stranger continues, slowly lifting his gaze to the shoes tied above both your heads. No. It can’t be. Shaking your head from going to the worst possible scenario, you ask the stranger after a few seconds of silence fell between the two of you. “I-Is Jimin-“

“Dead?”

The stranger cuts you off before you could finish your sentence, you felt as though he is seeing straight through you. You mouth stays open but you can’t process words to say to him. The stranger sighs and nods his head leisurely, bending down slowly to grasp back onto the yellow roses which were left on the ground.

“Yes. Jimin is dead.”

You felt your bottom lip quiver in complete disbelief. “I-I he was just with me.” You whisper, grasping tightly onto your camera. The stranger’s eyebrow furrow once again as he strides over towards you quickly, closing the distance between you two again. “What did you just say-“

“He was here. H-He was here with me. I don’t know him! I just met him today. It was our first time meeting each other.”

The stranger shakes his head, wanting to place some distrust in what you just told him, running his hand over his face he stares at you with an unreadable expression on his face. You stare back up at him with interest, completely forgetting about your train ride.

“Come with me, please.” The stranger says finally turning his back towards you and allowing you sometime to collect your thoughts. You replied with a meek, “Okay,” following close behind the stranger, until stopping in front of a large tree. You look up at the tree in awe, the branches spreading out widely.

“I don’t know why Jimin showed himself to you. But, I won’t question it because if that’s what he wanted to do, so be it. But, I want you to know that he doesn’t ever do this to just anyone.” The stranger’s words travel straight to your heart and you feel tears begin to well up again slightly at the boy’s misfortune. “He was so young.” You whisper, starring at the carvings of ‘PJ & JK’ on the tree.

“I’m Jungkook, by the way.” The stranger says, turning around to face you again, keeping his back to the tree. You blink up at him and nod your head out of respect. “I’m (Y/N)” You reply equally as soft and turn your gaze back to the tree. “Why did you take me here?” You ask walking up to the tree slowly.

Jungkook sighs and glances down at your camera. “Jimin was really supportive of my dreams to become a photographer. I’m guessing he probably found some similarities in our aspirations and decided to show himself to you.” Jungkook whispers, watching you running your hand down the trunk of the tree.

Your eyes cloud over as you reminisce of Jimin’s gentle smile and sweet laughter ringing in your ears. What a shame, such a young and talented individual had to go. It just wasn’t fair at all.

I still believe even though it’s unbelievable
To lose your path
Is the way to find that path

“Jimin, really was an amazing person and he was and still is loved by many.” Jungkook says, voice wavering slightly at the sight of tears streaming down your face. You turn to face him, lips shaking as you allow the tears to stain your face. “If you don’t mind me asking…How did he you know?” You ask, trying to control your sobs as Jungkook, bites his bottom lip in attempt to suppress tears of his own.

“H-He was sick.” You quickly nod your head not wanting for him to continue, that’s all you needed to know. You shakily exhale, walking closer to Jungkook. “I’m sure Jimin is so incredibly happy, having his best friend bring him beautiful flowers on his anniversary and even going as far of travelling all the way out here. In the middle of nowhere.” You say sympathetically running your hand down Jungkook’s back tenderly. Jungkook feels a smile tug at the corner of his lips.

“Jimin, had a way with people. He doesn’t just show himself to anyone. I can see why he chose you.” Jungkook words made you flustered, which Jungkook himself, found incredibly cute. Jungkook’s eyes examine your camera before locking his gaze back to yours. You watch him silently, feet rooted to the ground.

Lost my way
Constantly pushing without rest within the harsh rainstorms
Lost my way
Within a complicated world without an exit
Lost my way
Lost my way
No matter how much I wander, I want to believe in my path

“Hey, (Y/n). Come travel with me.” You stare at Jungkook wide eyed at his suggestion. He waits patiently for you to respond. His eyes serious as he takes a cautious step towards you. Your heart pounds against your chest rapidly, your pulse hammering in your ears as you process his words.

“I have been travelling with Jimin until he passed. As, soon as I saw the camera-“ He points to the camera around your neck, similar to how Jimin did and smiles warmly down at you. “I think Jimin wants us to travel together-I mean only if you want to that is.” Jungkook, nervously scratches the back of his neck as he waits for your answer. You feel Jungkook’s words sneak its way into your heart against the nervousness and uncertainty in your heart. You glance up at the sky and feel a warm gentle breeze against your face. What exactly do you have to lose?

“Okay, it definitely beats travelling alone.”

Lost my way
Found my way
Lost my way

Found my way

___

A few months later…

Jungkook and you fit perfectly together, like two missing puzzle pieces finally becoming one again. The mutual passion for travel and photography creates a sense of peace against both your hearts and the shared bond you both felt towards Park Jimin, will never disperse. Jungkook, was wonderful and incredibly easy to be-friend, similar to Jimin he was gentle and strong. He protected you so many times throughout your travelling together. But, you also felt like Jimin was watching over the two of you.

Jungkook’s stories about Jimin was your favorite thing in the world at the moment. The friendship and hardships they both faced together was incredibly stressful and you thankful for Jungkook being strong enough to carry on with the travelling, even with Jimin’s absence. When asking Jungkook how he did it, he would say Jimin wouldn’t have wanted him to stop and is encouraging him to continue with his passion and not to give up on the fated path they have created together, even if he was not physically here to do it.  You were glad you had met Jimin, even if it was for a short while. Jimin was influencer and a teacher, he helped improve people and you both couldn’t wait to see him again next year.

Snowflakes are falling

Getting farther away

I miss you

I miss you

How much more do I have to wait?

How many more nights do I have to stay up?

Until I can see you?

Until I can meet you?

Until we meet again, Jimin.
