“That’s it?” Woohyun complained. Sunggyu elbowed him in the ribs, hard. “Ow!”

“He’s not wrong, hyung…” Sungjong said disappointedly. “It’s… a little more broken down than we expected.”

“It’s okay,” Sunggyu retorted, a bit sharper than he’d meant. “I mean, at least we can live in it.”

Howon gave him a sideways glance. “Are you sure, hyung?” he asked, dubious. “It’s definitely… it sure looks less safe than when we first found it.”

Sunggyu glared at him. “Then maybe you can go in and check for the rest of us!”

With the determined set of his mouth, Howon looked like he was actually going to storm in there, but Dongwoo pulled him back.

“Stop being stupid,” he chastised, “and hyung, don’t say things that you don’t mean. We’ll all go in there together.”

But Howon wasn’t having any of it; he turned away from Sunggyu and marched into the house like he owned the place.

“Hey!” Woohyun yelled, chasing after him. “Didn’t you just hear what Dongwoo-hyung said? Hey, Lee Howon!”

Growling in frustration and worry, Sunggyu took off after them, leaving everyone else behind.

“Lee Howon!” he shouted, pushing open the creaking door. “Lee Howon, get your back here!”

“Hyung!” Woohyun’s worried voice yelled from the second floor. “Hyung, up here, hurry!”

Hissing in frustration, Sunggyu took the wobbly stairs two at a time, footsteps fairly breaking the flimsy floor. He burst into the room where Woohyun’s voice came from, finding Howon curled up in the fetal position.

With no regards to Woohyun’s teary apologies, Sunggyu dropped down next to Howon, turning him onto his back. “Howon!” he yelled, slapping his face. “Howon, listen to me!”

“Hyung!” Woohyun pulled him away, but Sunggyu, frantic, jerked himself away. “Hyung, all he did was hit his head!”

Sunggyu froze. After a while, he slowly lifted his face to the ceiling and sighed. “Nam Woohyun,” he said quietly. “Go get the others.”

“Unfortunately, hyung,” Sungyeol’s voice snarked from the doorway. “We’ve followed you.”

Sunggyu let out his breath in a quick, angry huff. “Fine,” he acknowledged listlessly, too tired to snap at anyone. “Just, everyone get settled down in this room.”

“Are you sure about this house?” Dongwoo asked in a small voice, evidently scared. “Hyung, it’s very unstable. The floorboards creak and everything.”

“It’s okay,” Sunggyu interrupted, standing up. “I understand your worries, but this is the best place we’ve got, and we do need to… survive.”

Silence filled the dusty air, and finally, Sungjong sat down with a sigh. “Is Howon-hyung knocked out?” he asked, despite having heard the entire conversation.

“Yeah,” Sunggyu answered quickly, glad to talk about something else. “He’ll be fine. I’ll stay here with him, and you can all explore the house.”

“I disagree.” Myungsoo plopped down next to Sungjong. “Dongwoo-hyung’s right. This house is scary, and I don’t want to go anywhere.”

Sunggyu could have slapped himself. In just a few moments, he had forgotten that he’d told everyone to settle down in this very room. “Fine,” he said shortly, making his way over to the door. “I need to find a bathroom, though, so if anyone wants to come, they’re certainly welcome.”

“Hyung, I’ll come!” Sungyeol leapt after him. “I need to go too.”
