Yuju hadn’t stopped looking at Chaeyeon’s bag since they arrived at the beach. Chaeyeon pretended not to notice. She had tried everything to distract the girl: food, videos on her cell phone, kisses, the story of how Eunjin once took all their mugs out to the backyard just so she could say that the day was "muggy". Nothing had worked.

Yuju couldn’t stand it any longer. A tiny drop of sweat rolled down the side of her face.

“You have a kitten in your bag.” She finally blurted as she stood up and pointed with her finger.

The NO PETS ON THE BEACH sign loomed behind them.

“Say that a bit louder, will you?”

“Your cat likes the beach?”

“She gets separation anxiety.”

It was hopeless, it was love. Cathy’s red hair and green eyes and peeking out entirely too pleased with herself among a towel.

“Either sit down or stop staring, you’re going to blow our cover.”
