Cho Hyeyeon

The Little Mermaid

Dokyung was all new to her current school. She was a bit timid yet she gained good remarks from her new classmates. As she got to her seat and read a book, there was another classmate who told her seatmate to move to another seat. The said seatmate didn't have much of a choice and in the end, the said classmate became Dokyung's new seatmate.

"Hey." She spoke with her crescent smiles.

"Uhh...hello." Dokyung greeted back.

"Look, I know you introduced yourself and all but..." The classmate spoke as she drew closer. “I’d like to know more.”

Dokyung didn't see anything wrong of the woman that she ended up talking to her.

+++

Dokyung was drawing an anime character by the kiosks as the familiar classmate from before saw her and went closer. Dokyung sighed and she finally got some details about her from another classmate.

Her name was Cho Hyeyeon. Cho Hyeyeon was the youngest, entering high school at 11 years old. She was witty and was a bundle of joy but never in her life had she shared that with anyone. She makes many friends and she talked to them about her crush, who happened to be Dokyung.

"Hi, Dokyung." Hyeyeon greeted her. "Honey~"

"Well, I guess they were right about you." Dokyung sighed. "Listen, you're cute and all but I'm not your Honey, okay?"

Dokyung excused herself to lunch but Hyeyeon was catching up to her. Dokyung sighed of the fact that it was going to be a long day.

+++

Dokyung and Hyeyeon had most of the day together. From lunch up to classes, Hyeyeon was by Dokyung's side, talking to her and holding her hands that were smooth as silk.

When it was time to go home, Hyeyeon pouted because Dokyung was on the other direction whereas she had to take a bus back home. During the trip, she was seated next to Dokyung's former seatmate, that one student that she forced to move to another seat.

She didn't have a choice since the bus was loaded. She didn't even bother but seeing her phone, she triggered.

She had Dokyung's number.

"Yah." She called her. "Where did you get Dokyung's number?"

"And who are you to eavesdrop?" She batted back. "Dokyung and I are members of the dance club. We had to have each other's numbers to communicate."

"Hello? I'm a member too. I'm even an officer so give me her number." Hyeyeon demanded.

The student was defenseless as she did. Hyeyeon cheered and texted Dokyung.

"If you're doing this as a way to get closer to Dokyung, not a chance, Hyeyeon." She said. "Admirers are lining up to her and I'm one of them. I'm already one step ahead and I will keep up that pace."

“Not happening.” Hyeyeon batted. “She also replied to me. We’ll be doing collaboration on a painting. Yes! I got the grand prize!!”

The student wad damned as Hyeyeon smiled and relaxed throughout the trip.

+++

From: UNKNOWN

I got your number from your former seatmate. Mind me for texting. I hope you’ve gotten yourself ready for bed. Do you like painting? We should collaborate sometime. Good night, Dokyungie~ - Hyeyeon

Dokyung sighed and Hyeyeon was right. She was already in her bedroom and sighed of the message she got. But seeing her text about painting, she replied.

"Well..." Dokyung huffed as she puts her phone on the table. "...it's going to be a long day tomorrow...again..."

+++

It was another day at lunch and Dokyung was lining up. Students who became her admirers raced to get in line with her when Hyeyeon got to her queue first and hugged Dokyung tight, leaving the rest to find their own places in the queue.

"Hey. You go ahead." Dokyung said as she switched places with Hyeyeon.

Hyeyeon nodded and squealed lightly, thinking that the future days with Dokyung are going to be even more special than the last.

+++

"You like painting, huh?" Dokyung asked.

Hyeyeon nodded as they got to the field. Dokyung gor a canvas and painting materials and painted a simple flower. Dokyung even lets Hyeyeon try and the younger girl giggled and the last of the details.

"Wow, Hyeyeon." Dokyung nodded. "Not bad. I also like caricature."

“Me too,” said Hyeyeon.

A ring disrupted them and they let the painting dry up for a bit before packing things up and going back to their classroom for their classes.

+++

Hyeyeon was wondering of what to do this weekend. She would’ve stuck to the usual routine of baking and painting but she was bored doing all those things by herself.

What was she going to do? She scrolled through her contacts and there were only her family’s, contacts of Gx9, and of Dokyung’s. Hyeyeon gulped and texted her.

To: Dokyungie <3
Dokyungie, are you busy this weekend? Do you want to hang out with me?

Hyeyeon hesitated, pacing around the corridors as she waited for the reply.

“Hyeyeon?” Hyeyeon turned around and she saw her Dokyungie.

Hyeyeon went to hug her. Dokyung was taken aback but she hugged back. Once they broke, Hyeyeon held her hands and asked. “Got my text?”

“Yes…” Dokyung nodded. “Sure, I’m going.”
Hyeyeon was so happy, her heart growing wings.

+++

Hyeyeon never thought she’d spend a day with her crush. They had fun telling jokes while baking a strawberry cake. Hyeyeon got the cakes baking as Dokyung mixed the icing. Hyeyeon got a peek and leaned her head by Dokyung’s firm shoulder.

“Is this fine?” Dokyung asked. “I’m not much of a baker.”

Hyeyeon checked the consistency and she nodded. “This is just right.”

Dokyung nodded as Hyeyeon got the cakes ready. Hyeyeon stacked one as Dokyung coated the top with some strawberry cream. They did that for almost three times then Dokyung coated the whole cake with strawberry icing.

Hyeyeon felt happy for this moment and she never thought Dokyung would spend all her time today for her. With the gesture, she felt her heart pound out of adoration. As the cake was coated neatly, Hyeyeon added some fresh strawberries and Dokyung designed the top with vanilla icing.

*spurt*

“Omo-I’m so sorry!” Dokyung gasped as Hyeyeon had icing on her nose.

Dokyung went closer to wipe it off of Hyeyeon’s nose. The close gap made Hyeyeon’s face flush lightly. And the sudden contact of Dokyung’s soft hands on her nose made her heart pound.

“Sorry.” Dokyung apologized.

“No-no! It’s okay~” Hyeyeon stuttered as Dokyung gave an apologetic look that made her ogle of her cuteness. “It’s fine, Dokyungie.”

Dokyung sighed in relief. “The cake’s done. Shall we eat?”

Hyeyeon nodded and got some saucers and little forks. Dokyung slices the cake and got one slice for Hyeyeon then herself. They ate and Hyeyeon wowed of Dokyung. The cake was good, especially the icing.

“Dokyungie~” Hyeyeon got a piece and inched it closer to Dokyung’s mouth. “Say ahh~"

Dokyung ate smoothly and Hyeyeon gulped on how Dokyung looked. She looked cute and y at the same time.

“It’s good, Hyeyeon-ah~” Dokyung grinned then got her own piece for Hyeyeon. “Say ahh~”

Hyeyeon was obliged to eat from Dokyung’s share. They shared their happiness and ended up feeding each other. For Hyeyeon, this was the best date she had with her Dokyungsus and she gulped of her feelings as they grew bigger wings.

Hyeyeon would’ve thought it was just a little hangout with a friend but her heart said otherwise.

Could this be love?

+++

Hyeyeon was listening to her friends talk as they ask of her and Dokyung.

"You two seem to be close." One said.

"Yeah?" Hyeyeon raised an eyebrow.

"You know we're her admirers too, right?" Another one asked.

“Me too,” said Hyeyeon. "But my case is different."

It completely was because she was falling for Dokyung.

+++

Dokyung and Hyeyeon hang out often, almost frequently. With their interests in art, they shared a certain bond. Hyeyeon even got her phone and took picture of Dokyung’s signature grin. “Jackpot.”

Dokyung was too busy with her comic and Hyeyeon couldn't help but admire her more. She got a look on her phone when the said former seatmate got it from her. Hyeyeon didn't want to settle a ruckus when Dokyung was around so she pulled her somewhere far.

"Come on. Give me her picture. I could bargain you for anything you want." She demanded.

“I would…but Dokyung is the one I want.” Hyeyeon stuck a tongue.

Hyeyeon got her phone back and went back when Dokyung ran towards her. "Where did you go, Hyeyeon?"

"Just talking to a friend, Honey." Hyeyeon said. "Now, why don't we continue your comic?"

+++

Dokyung was doing sprints and everyone cheered, even Hyeyeon. Some whispered that they all wanted to get closer to Dokyung but they also mumbled about Hyeyeon. Hyeyeon broke that bickering with a smirk.

“You’re the mistress, I’m her wife.” Hyeyeon stuck a tongue.

"Hyeyeon-ah~" Dokyung waved.

"See?" Hyeyeon smirked and got closed to Dokyung, making them gasp.

+++

Dokyung went to look for a drinking fountain when she saw Hyeyeon.

“Dokyungie~” She waved and motioned Dokyung to come closer.

Dokyung did and Hyeyeon got something she needed. “I saw you dance earlier. You were great.”

“Really?” Dokyung asked as she accepted Hyeyeon’s bottle of water. “Thank you.”

Dokyung drank lightly as Hyeyeon went closer to wipe Dokyung’s sweat off. Dokyung finished and Hyeyeon held her arm. “I got to tell you something.”

“What is it?” Dokyung asked.

“The home economics club is conducting a dessert buffet tomorrow. I would go with Mina and the rest but they’re busy. Do you want to come with me?”

“Say no more.” Dokyung grinned. “Just text me where we’ll meet…”

Hyeyeon nodded. She gave Dokyung a peck on the cheek. “See you then.”

Dokyung watched Hyeyeon go and decided to get some fresh air while drinking some water.

+++

Hyeyeon was by the lobby, waiting for Dokyung. Hyeyeon was peering around the place when she finally saw her date.

“Dokyungie~” Hyeyeon hugged her tight.

“Has the event started?” Dokyung asked.

“You’re in time.” Hyeyeon said, grabbing her hand. “Come.”

Hyeyeon and Dokyung attended the said event. Dokyung would’ve thought they’d just eat desserts but there were tons of sectors of the said event. From a symposium on baking to taste testing, Hyeyeon and Dokyung had a great time.
Dokyung and Hyeyeon were sharing a cake sponsored by the event arranger and were eating. Hyeyeon enjoyed her moment with Dokyung as they feed each other some cake.

“You’ve got some icing on your cheek.” Hyeyeon pointed then stopped Dokyung’s hand. “Let me get that off for you.”

Dokyung nodded. Hyeyeon inched closer and kissed Dokyung’s cheek. Dokyung eyes dilated but her cheeks flushed when she felt a little by her cheek. Hyeyeon broke and giggled. “I got it off, Dokyungie.”

Dokyung guessed it was Hyeyeon’s doing. Hyeyeon ate again, feeding Dokyung from time to time. Dokyung couldn’t hold the flush on her cheek as she went back to eating and feeding Hyeyeon.

Hyeyeon's gestures made her insane. Now she got a little by Hyeyeon. Dokyung gulped. What else could be in store for her?

+++

Dear Diary

Meeting Hyeyeon had its aesthetics and I was happy for the friendship. But lately, something in me was developing. It was uncertain but time can only tell.

I just hope I can get some answers.

Shim Dokyung

"Honey?" Dokyung looked as Hyeyeon sat next to her.

Even that word didn't sound cringey anymore. Maybe that was what she was feeling.

+++

Dear Diary

Like any young girl, we all have our ideal types. With the misconception of being a little kid, implying this said idea was stereotypical.

But in Dokyungie’s case, it was different. It wasn’t just any admiration. For me, it was love.

I just want Dokyungie to see that, that I am not just any kid who has a crush. I am a woman who loves her dearly…

Cho Hyeyeon

“Cho Hyeyeon’s looking lit for today. It’s like puberty hit her and gave the best results,” said the student.

Hyeyeon was with the arts club as they were holding an event. Eventually, Hyeyeon saw her Dokyungie and she was love-struck.

“Dokyungie~” Hyeyeon waved with a paintbrush on her hand.

“Hi, Hyeyeon.” Dokyung waved back.

Hyeyeon was endorsing their event and Dokyung was really interested. The highlight was that they will be painting portraits of students who would want to have a painting of themselves. For Dokyung, she wanted to.

“Sunbae, can I paint Dokyungie?” Hyeyeon suggested.

She nodded and Hyeyeon got excited and pulled Dokyung inside a vacant room, where a canvas stood together a table with a palette, paint, and sets of paintbrushes. Hyeyeon guides Dokyung to a chair as she got ready to paint.

While preparing herself, Hyeyeon giggled at the sight of Dokyung as she was in awe of the little room.

“This is just amazing, Hyeyeon.” Dokyung grinned.

“It’d be more amazing if you stay still.” Hyeyeon giggled.

Dokyung nodded and sat still. Hyeyeon started painting. As Hyeyeon glided the bristles of her brush onto the canvas, she lightly , forming Dokyung’s fine details of her face. It lasted for mere hours and Hyeyeon grew worried for Dokyung as she literally stopped moving for almost two hours.

Hyeyeon puts the brush down. “Let’s take a break, Dokyungie.”

“Okay.” Dokyung stands up slowly and stretches, all while looking at the paintings by the wall. “Hyeyeon-ah, did you paint these?”

“Yes, I did.” Hyeyeon smiled.

“Wow…” Dokyung’s hand grazes on a painting of a cute sheep. “…this painting…it’s a bit surreal…and the colors…” She faces Hyeyeon. “…they show fear…”

Dokyung’s voice was as husky and smooth as good old wine and it made Hyeyeon’s heart beat quickly. And with the statement she said, she never thought Dokyung’s passion for art was as vast as the ocean.

“How did you know, Dokyungie?” Hyeyeon asked.

“I just feel it says that way.” Dokyung answered.

“That is actually true.” Hyeyeon smiled at her. “I’m scared of sheep.”

“I see.” Dokyung nods. “Shall we resume, Hyeyeon-ah?”

Hyeyeon thought she was losing it. Dokyung was just too charming for her own good. And with them alone in one room, she was tensed.

Hyeyeon nodded and got back to her canvas as Dokyung sat back down, sitting still again. Hyeyeon decided to quicken her pace a bit, being articulate with Dokyung’s features.

Hours later, Hyeyeon finished her painting. But then, a smirk plastered on her face as she painted a lipstick mark by Dokyung’s cheek in the painting.

“Done…” Hyeyeon said as she puts her brush and took off her apron.

“May I see?” Dokyung asked and Hyeyeon nodded.
Dokyung went to the canvas and wowed of Hyeyeon’s skills. She got all her features right but as she saw the lipstick mark, she wondered.

“Hyeyeon, what’s with the-“

*chu*

Dokyung froze and felt lips by her cheek. Hyeyeon’s cheeks turned a cute pink as she finally got to kiss Dokyung…technically on the cheek, but at least that was something.

Hyeyeon lets go from her kiss and looked at Dokyung then at a painting of her. It was identical.

“That should settle it.” Hyeyeon smiled and showed the painting to Dokyung. “It’s exactly the same.”

Dokyung wowed of Hyeyeon’s skill. Hyeyeon could only smile, adoring her precious Dokyungsus. The kiss she did for her made her heart flutter.

But no…that wasn’t it…

Hyeyeon makes Dokyung look at her and did the impossible. She kissed her on the lips.

Dokyung and Hyeyeon broke from their kiss as a senior came to see them. She noticed the lipstick in the painting and in Dokyung’s cheek and it made her wow of Hyeyeon’s skill, plus she smirked at the both of them.

“What is it, sunbae?” Hyeyeon asked.

“Nothing.” She said as she went to get Hyeyeon’s painting. “Let me display this up. But first…”

*flash*

Dokyung’s eyes dilated a couple of times. She saw a picture coming out of Hangyeol’s camera as Hyeyeon got it and dried it up.

“Oh, I forgot…” Hyeyeon chuckled. “Give me another copy.”

She took a picture of Dokyung again and Hyeyeon got her copy. She got the painting again and got out to display it for their exhibit. Hyeyeon got her picture inside her pocket before facing Dokyung.

“Dokyungie~” She held her hand. “Shall we go?”

Dokyung could only nod as she and Hyeyeon went out.

With the incident a while ago, her heart couldn’t help but beat itself…

+++

Dokyung couldn't help but look at her picture with Hyeyeon. She had a wonderful memory with her but with a grant to study overseas, it was her dream but it would cost her stay and Hyeyeon.

Will she really go for her dream?

"Honey..." She heard Hyeyeon.

Dokyung lets her sit next to her only to be tackled by a hug. She heard Hyeyeon sniffle and she comforts her.

“Tell me, Dokyungie,” said Hyeyeon. "Is is true that you're going to study overseas?"

Dokyung nodded and Hyeyeon lowered her head as she wipes her tears. "Why am I even...we're not even dating."

"We are, Hyeyeon."

Dokyung did the initiative and kissed Hyeyeon. Hyeyeon's eyes dilated but she reached a hand to cup Dokyung's face and kiss her back. They broke slowly and Hyeyeon caressed her face, feeling smooth skin.

"I'm sorry to say it now." Dokyung said. "And I'm sorry to take it from you at this moment too."

"Why? Aren't you coming back?" Hyeyeon asked as she grew worried.

Dokyung shook her head and Hyeyeon huffed and walked away. Dokyung sighed and Hyeyeon cries her heart out because she loved Dokyung with all her heart.

But will she be able to let Dokyung go after all that they've been through?

+++

It was Hyeyeon's grand exhibit and she prepared everything for it. Students loved it but she was expecting a special someone to stop by and visit. Hyeyeon sighed dejectedly when she froze as she saw her.

She held a bouquet and went closer. Hyeyeon thought she was just too beautiful. A part of her heart was happy. But seeing her getting ready for a trip, she felt down.

They say love prevails in the end and that's what happened. Hyeyeon's tears fell as she hugged Dokyung tight.

"Don't cry. It'll mess your makeup." Dokyung said.

Hyeyeon held those hands tight as Dokyung gave her that bouquet. She and Hyeyeon shared moments within the exhibit and when it ended, they celebrated.

After a few hours, it was just her and Hyeyeon. Hyeyeon kept hugging Dokyung, whispering her to stay.

"My flight's in five hours. I need to go now, Hyeyeon." Dokyung said.

"Don't..." Hyeyeon shook her head. "Please..."

Dokyung looked at Hyeyeon and fixed her hair. She even fixed strands of it as Hyeyeon stopped her with a longer kiss.

"Hyeyeon..." Dokyung sighed. "...I need to..."

Who was she to wreck Dokyung's dream? For her, their moment was just too short. They didn't have time to confess and be a couple. Hyeyeon was frozen as Dokyung pecked her forehead and made her leave.

"I love you, Honey."

Dokyung froze as she gazed at Hyeyeon before she went off. "I love you too."

+++

"...not again..." Hyeyeon sighed.

She was staring at the ceiling as she would sleep anymore. It had been like that since Dokyung left. It was utterly annoying but she realized something.

Dokyung and her may not have been a thing but they shared love. And for Hyeyeon, Dokyung will always be in her heart...forever.
