Step 3

Choosing the most suitable choreography for us was harder than I had thought.

We decided to meet at the university’s café which was known to be the favourite place of literally everyone since the staff was super friendly, no other café could beat its wide range and the prices were also reasonable. Small wonder why it was pretty stuffed when we sat down at a window-side table on Friday afternoon. Lots of students had their last snack here before catching their train to head back home but I lived in Seoul and Chanyeol didn’t go home every week, so we didn’t have to worry about that.

How I wished I could change with them! That way, I wouldn’t have to listen to my parents’ excruciating quarrel and get reprimanded for leaving the house because I couldn’t concentrate on my assignments. When I was there, I was a burden but when I wasn’t there, my absence was the burden. This went on for like two and a half months now and I hated every second of it.

“As I had promised, I tried to look up some choreographies but I actually didn’t find so many. Or I didn’t search in the right place,” Chanyeol started enthusiastically as he put his laptop on the table but didn’t forget to direct a smile at me. When he averted his eyes back to the screen, he logged in, revealing his background picture which showed a picture of him and a furry, little dog.

“Oh my gosh, is that your dog?” I squeaked at the sight and made poor boy totally flustered for a moment. His face could easily compete with the reddest tomato, however, a moment later, his shyness dissolved into pride. He boasted a boyish smile and stared at the picture dearly.

“Yes, it is. He’s Toben and I have him for five months now.”

“He actually looks like you,” I snickered whole-heartedly and I even got surprised at how freely I could joke around with him. I didn’t even think through what I would like to say because the words naturally escaped my mouth. Compared to the last time we met, I seemed to go a bit easier on him.

“I get that a lot.”

“I wish I could get a dog but I’m allergic to their fur,” I pouted sadly and let out a resigned smile. Not that my parents would let me have a pet because there was no way that they would be able to bear little puppies and kittens running up and down in the house, let alone make some space for them outside of the house. My little brother couldn’t be more mirthless due to their regulation but at least Soonyoung had a hamster. It wasn’t the pet of my dreams but it was still better than nothing. (By the way, he called it Vernon. God knows why.)

“I’m also allergic to their fur,” Chanyeol murmured absent-mindedly.

“What?” I furrowed my eyebrows in question since it didn’t make much sense. “Then, how do you manage to raise a dog?”

“Well, I still have rashes from time to time but it gets better,” he scratched the back of his neck sheepishly and gave me a nervous smile. “I can’t spend lots of time with him since I only go home during breaks but it’s not as bad as I thought that it would be,” he explained further and turned to his laptop instead. It seemed that he didn’t want to add anything else, so I didn’t want to ask but I still found it peculiar that the guy was allergic to dog fur and he still got a dog. He must have been either crazy or totally admirable for still trying to live with dogs.

We maintained the eye-contact for a while but a moment later, he turned back to his computer and started typing.

“Actually, the only real choreography that I had found was this one,” he muttered under his breath and pointed to the screen which showed a dance practice video of a girl and a boy and some back-up dancers as well.

I was so immersed into daydreaming that I didn’t even see that he had already started playing the video on Youtube. I had a bad eye-sight, so I had to lean forward to recognise the figures on the screen and to properly read the description. When I managed to realise who they were and why it was so familiar to begin with, I almost threw his laptop out of the window.

“Are you crazy?” I squeaked, giving him the angriest look possible. Dancing the Troublemaker’s Now choreography was an absolutely preposterous idea! I wouldn’t learn it even if my house was on fire and I would
