Job Hunting (Soojin's POV)

1000 DAYS

I found myself tossing and turning in bed. I couldn't sleep. Tomorrow would be another exciting day with my Gumiho friend before I worked again Monday. Luckily, my brother allowed me to work Monday through Friday, so that I can have my weekends free. To be fair for all of us, on Saturdays and Sundays, we closed at 3pm, so that my brother and cousin, as well as the rest of our staff, can enjoy their weekend as well. However, despite having my weekends free, I preferred working. I liked looking at our exhibits and giving tours to visitors. It kept my mind off of my parents' deaths and the fact that I was actually feeling pretty lonely. That is, until a pink haired pretty boy entered my life. And now, I couldn't wait for tomorrow.

I drifted in and out of sleep until the sun came up. The moment a stream of light entered my window and graced my face, I got out of bed and prepared for my day with the gumiho. My gumiho friend entered my room as I was combing my hair. He looked so handsome wearing a long sleeve, striped polo shirt and plain black skinny jeans. His hair was wavy and damp.

"Shall I assist you?"

I smiled. "You can if you'd like."

"It would be my pleasure," he smiled, gently taking my hairbrush out of my hand. He combed my hair carefully as I watched him through the mirror of my vanity. He smiled the whole time. It appeared as if he wouldn't rather be doing anything else in the world. I couldn't help but blush.

After Jiyong brushed my hair, we set out to meet with my hacker friend, Kim Woobin. Woobin and I were high school classmates. He was always handsome and sought after by girls, however, he didn't care much for the attention. His passion was computers, which led to him growing up to be a skilled hacker. For this reason, he ended up working for the government, making tons of money. The one thing he didn't manage to do was find a girlfriend. Though I'm sure he could have anyone he wanted. He was simply too busy for a relationship.

As soon as I'd finished parking, Jiyong ran out of the car and up the front steps to Woobin's apartment. "Come on, Soojin! Let's go!"

He must be so excited. I chuckled. "Coming!"

Once I was on top of the stairs, I rang the doorbell. Moments later, the buzzer made a sound, and the front door unlocked. In the hallway just a few feet away was Woobin. He stood tall and was as handsome as ever. "Oppa," I exclaimed, running over to him. Woobin smiled.

Gesturing towards Jiyong, he asked, "So this is your friend?"

I nodded. "Woobin Oppa, this is Jiyong. Jiyong, this is Woobin."

Jiyong and Woobin both smiled politely. "Let's go talk inside," Woobin said, leading us to his apartment door. Once the door was shut, Woobin asked about Jiyong. "So, what's the deal with him? I was quite surprised to hear that you needed such services."

"Woobin Oppa," I began, "Jiyong... he... I found him in the forest and he doesn't have any identification, that's all."

Woobin didn't seem convinced. "Are you sure there isn't anything else? He isn't some secret agent? Or some kind of supernatural being--"

I choked a little as he said that last part. Then he finished. "Like an alien or something? Soojin-ah, are you okay? Was I right? Is he an alien? Because if he is, that could be the biggest find of the century."

"Don't be silly, Oppa," I laughed. "There's no such thing as aliens."

"Soojin-ah, anything is possible. There could be anything living up in space. I, for one, believe there is life out there."

"I'm not an alien!" Jiyong shouted, full of frustration.

"So you're telling me that you really are from the forest and have no identification whatsoever? Nothing else?" Woobin asked.

"Nothing else," I lied. He wouldn't believe me if I told him. Then again, he does believe in aliens. But I couldn't tell him the truth. As much as I wanted to trust Woobin, he worked for the government. If the government found out about Jiyong, they might try and capture him. Maybe, if we're lucky, Jiyong can become human before anyone finds out his identity.

"Wow, that's insane!" Woobin exclaimed. He inspected Jiyong carefully. "I have so many questions."

Jiyong rolled his eyes. "Are you going to help me or not?"

"Oh, right," Woobin blushed. "I apologize. So, I'll need some information. Name, date of birth, place of birth... family?"

"Oppa," I frowned, "he doesn't have a family. Is there any way you can put him in the system without that information?"

Woobin sighed and looked over at Jiyong thoughtfully, then at me. "I can put him down as your adopted brother," he said finally.

"NO!" I exclaimed, unable to stop myself. "I... I mean, can't you put him down as your brother, Oppa?"

"Ah, I see what's going on here."

"W-what do you mean?" I stuttered.

"You have feelings for him, don't you?"

"What?! Oppa!!!"

"Well, what other reason could there be for you being so strongly opposed to him being your brother?"

I blushed and looked over at Jiyong. "Well, there is a posibility."

Jiyong blushed and smiled, meanwhile, Woobin's eyes turned dark and gloomy. "I see..."

"Is everything okay, Oppa?"

Woobin stayed silent for a moment, then cleared his throat. His eyes became lighter and he gave me a weary smile. "Of course. I'm just trying to wrap my head around the fact that I have a brother now."

I smiled back at Woobin but I could sense that something was wrong. Whatever it was, however, he did not let it show for the duration of our visit, which was just short of three hours.

"You're all set," Woobin smiled, handing Jiyong an identification card. "You can apply for jobs... school... a marriage certificate..." Woobin cleared his throat. "Well, anyway. It was nice seeing you, Soojin."

I sighed and turned Woobin. "You too, Oppa. Thank you," I said as I enveloped him into a hug. I could feel his hesitation, but then his arms wrapped around me too. "I owe you a cup of coffee."

As we parted, I could see Woobin's smile. "I look forward to it, he said as he led us to the door. "See you then, Soojin. Jiyong."

Once Woobin shut the door, Jiyong turned over to me. "I have so many questions," Jiyong said, mimicking Woobin's voice.

"Not funny." And yet I couldn't help but chuckle.

"I'm serious, Soojin. What's this guy's deal first of all?"

"What do you mean?"

Jiyong pouted and crossed his arms. "He's clearly in love with you, Soojin. Anyone with eyes can see that. Except for you."

"Jiyong, that's crazy talk. He's just my long time friend."

"You should tell him that," Jiyong scoffed. "Soojin-ah, you're quite oblivious. And yet I still find myself drawn to you... Which brings me to my next question. Did you mean what you said about us?"

"Us?" I blushed. "You mean about the posibility between us as a couple?"

"Yeah," he said, avoiding eye contact. I could see a rosey color appearing on his cheeks.

"Yeah," I mimicked him, which was also my answer to his question said in the most noncholant way I could.

"That's good to know,'" he smiled. I felt his hand slowly wrap around mine. I looked over and smiled back at him.

"Now, let's go find you a job," I told him. Then I realized, Jiyong had no plan at all from here. "Jiyong-ah, what kind of job do you want?"

"I don't know. Anything I can do to fit in this society and earn currency should be fine," he answered earnestly.

That didn't really narrow things down, but it was a start. And so I asked him another question. "Well, what are your skills?"

Jiyong paused and thought for a moment. "Back in my time," he began, "I was a well-off scholar. Therefore, I am very educated in several subjects. I was also good at swordsmanship."

"Well, I'm not sure how good swordsmanship wil land you a job this day and age, unless you want to pursue an acting career in the historical genre but I think I know a job that's just perfect for a scholar like yourself."

His eyes lit up. "Really? What kind of job?"

"Say hello to your new boss, Kwon Jiyong, because I'm offering you a position at my family's art museum," I smirked. "That is, if you'll take it."

"Do you really think I'm qualified, Soojin?" he asked me. I nodded.

"Who better to teach others about art than someone who was alive when that art was created? We have a whole section of art from around your time. You could even teach us soemthing new."

"And I'd get to work with you every day?"

"Yes."

"Then I accept yout offer," he said extatically. "When can I start?"

"How about tomorrow? I can talk to my brother today about it."

"Perfect."

Hello everyone!

Thanks for reading up to this point! I'm sorry I haven't written once a week like I said I would, but I was going through a tough time which affected my writing. I did however, make a list for all of the things to happen in this story. Basically, I have the whole story planned out but I just couldn't find a way to put them into full chapters. Call it writers block due to personal reasons. I hope this chapter was good! I am not sure how I feel about it yet. Any comments are appreciated. Thanks!

I will be rereading chapters and editing before the next chapter! It will be easier for me to continue on my story this way. Also, I want to make it better in terms of writing quality. The story will not change though.

Also, I added Kim Woobin into the story. I was gonna just make the "hacker" an original character, but after finding out he had cancer, I wanted to make him as a character. I really hope he will be okay soon!

QUESTIONS:

1. How is the story so far?
2. Does this chapter seem finished?
3. What can I do to improve? (I actually feel like I am not in the writing groove since I was on a hiatus. )

Like this story? Give it an Upvote!
Thank you!

Chapter 7: I found one thing, the part about the earrings in chapter 6 was repeated in chapter 7, other than that there were just some spelling typos :) Can't wait to read more of your works!

Chapter 9: This story has really good elements, I wish I could watch this as a drama! For the questions: I thought of it as Jiyong's first time being embarrassed about speaking informally. His formal tone is very charming, I like that about his character. By the way, I loved Chapter 6. It was a good idea introducing a new character in Chapter 8. I'm personally really looking forward to the rest of this story, more parts with Hyesun, as well as scenes with the mythical aspects of gumiho, and just the romance! It's a well balance of many things. <3
