Chapter 4

Perfect Coincidences

"I'm an author."

"An author?" Taeyeon questioned, "What types of books do you write?"

"Well," Jessica explains, "I've only ever written one book and it was a romance novel."

"One book?!", Taeyeon exclaimed, before asking "You could afford all this with the profits from only one book?"

"The book did sell quite well." Jessica said modestly, blushing a light shade of red.

Jessica never enjoyed talking about herself, she always felt like she was showing off whenever someone asked her about what she did.

Taeyeon, seeing Jessica blush, couldn't help but smile at the way the other girl was acting. She had seemed so headstrong the rest of the day, only to be embarrassed by a small compliment. For some reason Taeyeon found it quite cute.

"So what is the book called?" Taeyeon inquired.

"You wouldn't have heard of it." Jessica mumbled whilst smiling.

"Go on, what's its name? I might have heard of it." Taeyeon pressed.

Before Jessica could answer she was interrupted by Tiffany.

"Do you two want to choose some food?" She asked the both of them.

Taeyeon grabbed the menu from Tiffany and Jessica shook her head, she already knew what she was going to order. Tiffany then noticed the framed book cover on the wall as well.

"Jessica?" She asked cautiously.

"Yeah."

Tiffany asked, "Do you know Samuel Blake?"

"W-w-why do you say that?" Jessica stuttered.

She'd managed to keep the secret for so long about her second identity, whenever someone would normally ask Jessica would normally tell them that she is just a big fan.

Tiffany continued, "Well you've got a framed cover of 'A Public Secret' on that wall, and you've got s stack of copies of it over there." She pointed over to the stack of books which Jessica had forgotten to put put away.

"Damn it." Jessica mouthed, she had forgotten that she left the copies of her book for signing out.

She then tried to recompose herself before continuing, "I'm sending them out as gifts to my family."

"Oh, okay." Tiffany answered, although she was not sure of Jessica's answer.

---------

After ordering the food, the four girls sat round and just chatted. Luckily for Jessica the subject of her book never came up again in conversation. Soon the food arrived and they all moved over to Jessica's dining table and started eating.

Midway through their meal Taeyeon asked, "So what was the name of your book?"

Jessica gulped before swallowing her mouthful. She looked around the room hoping for something to change the subject to.

"You're an author?" Tiffany asked.

Jessica nodded her head and then noticed Seohyun having a moment of realization.

"Wait a minute... are you...?" Seohyun began to ask.

Before the question can be finished Jessica shot Seohyun a glare before mouthing, "Yes I am."

Seohyun's mouth fell open as she realized who Jessica actually was. Tiffany looked at Seohyun's expression and then back to Jessica before she realized as well.

"You're Samuel Blake?!" She exclaimed.

Taeyeon's jaw dropped after hearing what Tiffany just said, she turned to look at Jessica waiting for an answer. Jessica just looked at the three of them before slowly nodding.

"Yeah." She said, almost sadly. She'd managed to keep her secret for months now, but now people knew.

Taeyeon stared at Jessica for a few seconds. She then went a deep shade of pink and hid her face in her hands.

"What's wrong Tae?" Seohyun asked, concerned with the way Taeyeon was acting.

Taeyeon looked up at Jessica before hiding her face in her hands again.

"Tae?" Tiffany asked, concerned as well for the leader.

Jessica smiled, she remembered how Taeyeon had talked about her earlier without knowing, she couldn't even begin to imagine how embarrassing it must be.

"Don't worry Taeyeon." Jessica reassured her. "I won't tell anyone." She winked.

Taeyeon looked back up at Jessica, she was sincere in what she was saying. Taeyeon smiled back at Jessica.

Both of them continued looking at each other, smiling, until Seohyun coughed.

"Do you mind telling us what happened?" She questioned.

Jessica and Taeyeon broke out of their stare and both looked away and blushed. Neither of them knew what had just happened, but whatever it was, they both enjoyed it. Tiffany looked at the two people blushing in front of her and wondered what was happening between her best friend and Jessica.

"It doesn't matter." Taeyeon chuckled, "Just a joke between the two of us."

Tiffany looked at Taeyeon and then back to Jessica.

"So you actually wrote 'A Public Secret', Jessica?" She asked.

"Yeah, it was an idea that I had in my head for a while, so one day I wrote it down and posted it online."

Taeyeon and Seohyun looked at Jessica in awe.

"Why Samuel Blake though?" Tiffany asked.

Jessica replied, "I didn't want to have people following me and asking for autographs, I came up with a different name to use instead. That way no one would know who I was."

"Do you not like the fame?" Seohyun asked.

Jessica thought about Seohyun's question for some time before answering.

"It's not that I don't like fame." She started, "It's just I like having a private life, and not having to live my life with the possibility of being chased or attacked by fans."

Taeyeon looked at Jessica and smiled. 'If only she knew that we are living this life that she is trying so desperately to avoid' she thought.

Seohyun and Tiffany both looked at each other and nodded, they knew where Jessica was coming from. Sometimes they wished the fame would go away and leave them with a normal life. But they also knew that sometimes the fame could be a good thing.

"Sometimes fame can be good." Seohyun said, "It can allow you to inspire people to fulfill their dreams."

Taeyeon added with a sincere smile, "Just think about how many people would look up to you, a normal woman who became a best selling author."

Jessica couldn't help but feel touched by Taeyeon's comment. 'Could I actually inspire people?' she thought. 'Will people actually look up to be like an idol?'

She turned to face the three girls.

"You sound like you've had some experience with fame." Jessica commented, knowing full well that they had.

None of them answered. The three Girls' Generation members looked at each other. They had all experienced fame before, both the good parts and the bad. But with the scandal in Korea happening at the moment it had been mainly bad.

"You could say that we have." Taeyeon said sullenly.

She thought of the recent attempt on their lives. The three of them had just finished a performance as Girls' Generation-TTS when it had happened. They were driving back with their manager when a car slammed into the side of them. A man came out of the car carrying a knife shouting at them and calling them traitors. If it hadn't of been for their manager then they might not have survived.

Jessica could see that the three of them were upset, so she tried to lighten the mood.

"You could almost say that fame is like Destiny, it's unavoidable. But you just need to Be Happy and take it Day By Day." She said, "Sometimes Baby Steps need to be taken and you need to just Wait a Minute."

Tiffany looked up at Jessica quizzically, 'Did she just quote our song titles in her sentence?'
