Seolhee rose up from her chair as the sudden announcement hit her. “No. Grandpa, you can’t make me do this.” She couldn’t believe this. Even though she knew one day she would be sent off to another rich family to marry their son, this was all too soon. Her grandpa clasped his hands as he glanced up at her from his seat. “Hwang Seolhee.” His stern words made her sit back down. She knew arguing against him won’t help. Grandpa has done everything for her since she was born. Not once has she gone against his words. “Grandpa.”

Her soft tone made him sigh softly. “I’m sorry but I won’t be changing my mind. Not now, not ever. You will get married to this young man.”

Seolhee felt her lungs constricting as she tried to think of an excuse. Her eyes began to cloud up with tears but she quickly wiped them away. “Grandpa, I just want to know why now. I’m 20. I’m barely into my second year of college so why all of a sudden?”

Grandpa readjusted his glasses as he thought of an answer. “I’m not expecting marriage yet. For now, it’s simply an engagement. One I made with my best friend before you and his grandson was even born.”

Seolhee bit her lip frantically. “But-“

“This is my decision. You know I only want the best for you, kiddo.” Grandpa smiled at her before standing up. “End of discussion. We’ll talk more about this with your parents but for now, I have a shareholders meeting to attend to.” And with that he ruffled her hair and left the room. On
